“What’s going on?”
From the tone of the voice, it was clear the person was quite incensed, imbued with a distinct disdain for others.
“Surely, the private compartments in business class are soundproofed?”
“To hear it so clearly from within, that person must be speaking incredibly loudly.”
While not quite on par with first class, the amenities in business class were nonetheless excellent, essentially equivalent to a standard room.
Under normal circumstances, one shouldn’t be able to hear sounds from the corridor unless they were exceptionally loud.
“Well, don’t mind it.”
“It’s likely just some unreasonable passengers causing a scene; it’s best to simply ignore them.”
For ordinary people, even economy class was considered quite good, let alone business class.
Anyone who would still complain despite such comfort was probably the type who believed the entire world revolved around them, or perhaps they were attempting a shakedown, much like the burly octopus ball vendor Bai Li had so effortlessly subdued earlier.
Moreover, the train’s staff were hardly pushovers.
After leaving the city, the likelihood of encountering danger would significantly increase, and in such events, they would primarily be responsible for both evacuation and threat neutralization.
This was, of course, unless they encountered situations beyond their capabilities, such as powerful 异兽 (TL Note: Supernatural Beasts), illegal ability users, or certain influential factions with formidable backing.
Now, with the commotion having largely subsided, it seemed the issue had been resolved.
“Speaking of which, I believe Aixi University’s dormitories are four-person rooms, aren’t they?”
“I wonder…”
“Please wait, someone is already inside…”
Bang!
Just as Bai Li was mid-sentence, another burst of noise erupted from outside, and the private compartment’s door suddenly swung open.
Following the direction of the door, a young man, whose attire alone bespoke his extraordinary status, pushed it open and cast his gaze upon Bai Li and Lin Xi, who were seated within the compartment.
“Sir, I’ve already told you, someone is inside…”
Behind the young man, a staff member wore an expression of extreme difficulty, yet dared not speak loudly.
They could only offer a weak, apologetic glance towards Bai Li and the others.
However, it was clear the man had no intention of backing down.
“Both of you, get out.”
“I’m taking this private compartment.”
Ignoring the warning glances from those around him, the man declared arrogantly.
“Young Master Lei,”
“Every seat on this train is assigned at the time of ticket purchase and cannot be changed arbitrarily.”
“Allowing you to occupy a business class seat without a prior booking is already an exceptional courtesy…”
Nearby, a supervisor, who appeared to be in charge of the other attendants, attempted to reason with the presumptuous Young Master Lei.
With keen eyes, Bai Li noticed veins throbbing on the supervisor’s forehead, a clear sign of barely suppressed fury.
“That’s your problem.”
“One question: Are you switching or not?”
“If you want money, go to the bank and give them my name.”
“I say, you…!”
Upon hearing the so-called “Young Master Lei’s” audacious words, not only the senior staff but even the other attendants found their patience wearing thin.
Ultimately, they were held back by the supervisor.
Even so, the train staff chose not to eject him, which clearly indicated that this individual possessed significant backing; otherwise, they wouldn’t address him as “Young Master.”
“No, we’re not switching.”
“Go back to wherever you crawled from.”
While the train crew might defer to him, Bai Li certainly wouldn’t.
Moreover, this man had interrupted her conversation with Lin Xi.
“You!?”
“It seems you prefer a beating to a toast.”
“Go on! Teach her a lesson!”
Enraged by Bai Li’s retort, the man surnamed Lei instantly flew into a towering rage, dispatching his personal bodyguard—a tall, cloaked figure.
Judging by the black attire beneath the cloak and the numerous pouches capable of holding various small items, he appeared to be an ability user akin to an assassin.
Indeed, the moment he manifested, he exuded a palpable killing intent, honed through countless acts of slaughter.
Furthermore, under his deliberate control, this fear-inducing killing intent converged upon Bai Li and Lin Xi, serving as an overt intimidation.
However, this time, he had chosen the wrong opponents.
The killing intent, upon touching Bai Li, was instantly repelled by an unseen force, unable even to approach Lin Xi, who stood beside her.
Concurrently, the killing intent, which the man had previously controlled, inexplicably began to spiral out of control, turning its terrifying effects back upon him.
“Ugh!”
This anomalous development immediately alerted the man to the danger, prompting him to swiftly place his hand on his empty waist, adopting a defensive stance.
“What’s wrong?”
“Attack!”
Unaware of the precise events that had just unfolded, Young Master Lei impatiently ordered his bodyguard to act, yet the latter remained motionless.
Just as the young master prepared to issue another command, a voice shattered the tense standoff.
“Everyone, stop!”
“Let’s see who dares to start a fight on this train!”
A mature woman (TL Note: “御姐” refers to an older, attractive, and often assertive woman), clad in a white shirt and a wide-brimmed hat, emerged from one end of the corridor, with all the attending staff respectfully making way for her.
“Deputy Conductor, what brings you here?”
The supervisor inquired of the newly arrived Deputy Conductor, who responded with a significant glance before turning her attention to the confronting parties.
“Whether in the station or on the train, any dangerous acts, including fighting, are strictly prohibited.”
“Should you violate this rule, do not blame me if I personally throw you from this high-speed train into the wilderness!”
As she spoke, the woman, who appeared to be the Deputy Conductor, subtly exuded an aura of authority, even without fully unleashing her suppressed power.
Sensing her formidable strength, the young master ceased his persistence.
“Tsk! Let’s go!”
As he turned to leave, he didn’t forget to cast a resentful glance towards Bai Li, still seated in the private compartment.
Once he had departed, the Deputy Conductor shed her stern, authoritative expression.
“You’ve all worked hard.”
“Not at all.”
“It’s thanks to your presence, Deputy Conductor, that a more dangerous situation was averted.”
“Right, you may go rest now.”
“And then…”
After instructing the other attendants to take a break, the Deputy Conductor turned back to face Bai Li and Lin Xi, who remained seated in their private compartment, having not risen once since the commotion began.
“My apologies.”
“During this period, many students are traveling by train to other cities, including some from affluent families.”
“The individual you just witnessed was someone who failed to purchase a ticket in time and then forcefully pulled strings to be upgraded to business class.”
“I’m truly sorry for the trouble this has caused you.”
The Deputy Conductor explained that the man was Young Master Lei of the Lei family, seemingly named Lei Haotian.
Owing to his considerable strength and the dedicated cultivation he received from his elders, he was considered one of the more arrogant and overbearing types among the scions of prominent families.
In Bai Li’s estimation, however, someone who couldn’t even remember to buy a train ticket was nothing more than a disabled individual lacking even basic self-care abilities.
“It’s nothing.”
“We’ll just consider it a performance by a monkey jumping around in front of us.”
“Hopefully, we won’t encounter such a spectacle again.”
“Haha, what a fitting—no, rather, utterly merciless description.”
The Deputy Conductor chuckled softly, then instructed a passing attendant to serve a complimentary dessert to the occupants of this compartment before taking her leave.
