Chapter 6 Part 5: Like A Donkey Crossing Cold Water

Just as Yejun was about to respond happily to CEO Park Jung-woo’s words, he noticed three people moving toward them from the other side and his expression hardened.

Why again?!

Manager Kim Sun-woo and Jisoo were fine.

But why did that bastard Jihoon have to come over again?

If he picks a fight one more time, I’m dragging him outside.

I can’t start a fight in front of the seniors.

Noticing Yejun glaring at Jihoon with crooked eyes, Manager Kim subtly stepped in, blocking Jihoon from Yejun with his body as he approached with a smile.

“CEO Park Jung-woo?”

“Oh, Manager.”

“Yes, our kids wanted to greet Ms.

Wooju.”

“They’re juniors so far below her it’s embarrassing.”

“Would it be alright if they just say hello briefly?”

“Oh, yes.”

“Of course.”

“Wooju?”

Wooju was younger than both Jisoo and Jihoon.

But since she debuted at fifteen, she was far senior to them both.

Jisoo stepped forward first and bowed.

“It’s a pleasure to meet you, sunbae.”

“I’m honored.”

Wooju smiled brightly, her eyes crinkling.

“Hello.”

“You’re very pretty.”

“Oh my.”

“When a senior says that, it sounds like teasing.”

“Hoho.”

“No, I mean it sincerely.”

“Oh my, that makes me feel so good!”

This time, Jihoon stepped forward.

“Hello.”

“I’m Lee Jihoon.”

“…..”

Wooju looked at Jihoon quietly, her gaze noticeably different from how she’d looked at Jisoo just moments earlier.

Then she gave a small nod and spoke.

“I’m Wooju.”

“…..”

If this were a comic, sparrows would be flying over their heads in dotted lines.

The silence was that awkward.

Jihoon frowned, and Manager Kim hurriedly jumped in.

“Haha.”

“CEO Park, so your real purpose wasn’t Senior Su-il, but Yejun, was it?”

CEO Park smiled at Yejun.

“Ah.”

“Yejun used to be with Daehwa, didn’t he?”

“Then you must know him well, Manager Kim.”

“Of course I do.”

“He was with our company for nine years.”

“Right, Yejun?”

Yejun gave a small nod.

Annoying as it was, facts were facts.

“Yes.”

Behind him, Jihoon was glaring fiercely at Wooju.

If you’re the senior, then act like one.

You’re younger, yet you treat someone who came to greet you like this?

It was written all over his eyes.

Thankfully, Jisoo noticed first and discreetly pinched his side.

Manager Kim caught on as well and hurriedly spoke.

“Haha.”

“We only came to greet you today, so it would be rude to linger.”

“We’ll be taking our leave now.”

That was when Wooju’s cold voice cut through the air.

“This is a wrap party.”

“Why bring outsiders here?”

“Do you have no sense at all?”

“This is where the drama staff are gathered.”

“…..”

Holy shit.

That was exactly what Jihoon had said earlier.

So she heard everything.

Manager Kim’s face went pale.

Jisoo’s face drained of color.

Even Jihoon looked visibly shaken.

Wooju, her expression colder than anything she had ever shown Yejun, crossed her arms and stared straight at Jihoon.

“It seems like the ones being rude here have been you all along, haven’t they, Manager?”

“…..”

Flustered, Manager Kim tried to smooth things over.

“Hah—haha.”

“Well, that was our Jihoon—”

Wooju stared straight at him.

Go on.

Make an excuse.

But Manager Kim knew.

Even if Jihoon had aimed the words at Yejun, the “outsider” in that sentence had clearly included Wooju.

He fell silent, like a man who’d swallowed honey.

After waiting a moment, Wooju shifted her gaze directly to Jihoon and spoke.

“The next time we meet, you don’t need to come greet me.”

“Lee.”

“Jihoon.”

“Tsk”

“…..”

No matter how reckless Jihoon was, he couldn’t push back after making the first mistake in front of Wooju.

Not only was she his senior.

Her popularity was on an entirely different level from his.

Jihoon, face drained of color, bowed deeply.

“My apologies.”

“I was very rude.”

“Yes.”

“You were.”

“So please leave now.”

“…..”

Seeing Jihoon’s expression crumple again, Manager Kim shoved him with his body.

“Hey.”

“That’s enough.”

“Let’s go.”

“CEO Park.”

“I’ll greet you properly another time.”

“Oh, yes.”

“Please go ahead.”

Manager Kim practically dragged Jihoon away, pushing him along.

Watching this, CEO Park chuckled and looked at Wooju.

“Did you really have to go that far?”

Wow.

I’ve only seen her smiling sweetly, but her personality is no joke.

Wooju shot Jihoon one last icy look, then immediately turned back to Yejun with a bright smile.

“Oh my.”

“I’m sorry.”

“I showed you an ugly side of me.”

“…..”

She’s scary.

Her expressions change in real time.

Wooju giggled lightly.

“I heard about what happened at the script reading.”

“Back then too, that guy tried to embarrass you and ended up being the one getting scolded.”

“And he still hasn’t come to his senses.”

Yejun let out a sigh as he watched Jihoon retreat.

What the hell is his problem with me?

He has everything.

Why does he act like this toward someone like me?

Someone with nothing to take.

Wooju looked at Yejun and spoke.

“Oppa.”

“Hhk.”

There it was again.

That oppa.

Even if his debut timing was blurry because of bit roles, Wooju had debuted a full year earlier.

Yet here she was, calling him oppa.

Yejun swallowed hard, unable to sit comfortably.

“Yes.”

“People like that keep poking if you ignore them.”

“If you flip your attitude once and snap back, they can’t even talk properly.”

“They do this because you don’t react, so it’s fun for them.”

“I know it’s hard for you to speak harshly to someone like Lee Jihoon.”

“So I did it for you.”

“I did well, right?”

“…..”

Well.

Honestly, it did feel satisfying.

But he wasn’t sure if this counted as “doing well.”

CEO Park checked the time and spoke.

“Since this is our first meeting, I won’t pressure you.”

“It wouldn’t be polite to stay too long at another drama’s wrap party.”

“Let’s get going.”

“Here’s my card.”

“I sincerely hope you’ll consider today’s offer positively.”

“I’ll be waiting for your call, Actor Ma Yejun.”

CEO Park was polite to the very end.

He felt like a genuinely good person.

Exactly the kind Su-il had described.

And most importantly—he was Wooju’s CEO.

That alone made him appealing.

He wanted to accept immediately.

But after being burned once by Daehwa, being cautious wasn’t a bad idea.

“I understand.”

“I’ll be in touch, sir.”

“Yes.”

“Then.”

“Wooju?”

“Let’s go.”

Wooju stood up, bracing her palm on the table as she leaned in close.

Yejun froze.

It looked exactly like she was about to kiss him.

But nothing like that happened.

Instead, Wooju leaned in and whispered.

“Lee Jihoon.”

“He’ll definitely try to mess with you one more time.”

“I’ve seen lots of people like him.”

“When that happens, don’t hold back.”

“He keeps looking down on you because you let him.”

“…..”

Wooju flipped over CEO Park’s business card, scribbled something, and handed it to him.

“This is my phone number.”

“Not my manager’s.”

“My personal phone.”

What?!

Wooju gave me her personal number?!

I’m losing my mind.

If Jeonghwan hyung finds out, he’ll strangle me.

Wooju waved cheerfully.

“Let’s keep in touch, oppa.”

“Let’s definitely meet again next time.”

“Bye.”

She said definitely.

Of course they had to meet again.

Absolutely had to.

She was a bit scary—but she was friendly to him, so who cared?

After Park Jung-woo and Wooju finished greeting Su-il, Teacher Lee Sooncheol, the director, and the writer, and left, Su-il hurried over to Yejun, who was sitting alone.

Holding chopsticks and a glass, Su-il sat down and asked bluntly.

“Hey.”

“Did you sign?”

“No.”

“I got an offer, but I haven’t answered yet.”

“Tell me what they offered.”

“Well…”

After listening to the full offer, Su-il grinned.

“Nice.”

“Very realistic.”

“Really?”

“Should I take it?”

“Hm.”

“There won’t be a better offer than that.”

“Unless it’s Daehwa, SG, or YM.”

“Daehwa’s out.”

“Are SG or YM good?”

“They’re good.”

“Flashy headquarters too.”

“But both focus more on music than acting, so that’s the downside.”

“I see.”

“Well.”

“It’s your decision.”

“Hey.”

“What are you doing?”

“Drink up.”

“Yes, hyung.”

Once Su-il sat at the corner table, people started gathering again.

He was respected and well-liked.

The empty table quickly filled around him.

Director Kim Minsu, returning from the restroom, noticed and took a seat with a smile.

“Hah.”

“Looking at it now, this is the main table.”

“Yejun.”

“Did you get Wooju’s autograph?”

The director spoke casually, making the actors’ eyes widen.

Directors rarely spoke this familiarly to supporting actors unless they were veterans.

Misunderstandings began forming among the actors.

It was strange from the start.

He was sitting alone, and then Senior Su-il, Teacher Lee, the director, and the writer all sat with him.

Even when he moved seats, the director and Su-il followed.

That guy has something.

We should get close.

He must have insane backing.

Of course, Yejun had no idea what was going through their heads.

He smiled shyly and shook his head.

“No.”

“I felt too embarrassed to ask for an autograph.”

Assistant Director Jang Young-ho, who had been checking on the catering, finally came over.

“Wow.”

“Busy, huh?”

“Yejun.”

“How’s the food?”

“We picked the vendor carefully.”

“Oh.”

“Assistant Director.”

“It’s delicious.”

“Haha.”

“Mind if I sit too?”

Su-il jumped in immediately.

“Oh my, oh my~.”

“Our assistant director finally gets a bite.”

“Come on.”

“Sit here.”

With both director and assistant director seated, attention focused again.

After Teacher Lee Sooncheol left early due to fatigue, and writer Hong Jihyun joined in, the center of the gathering quietly shifted.

Mid-career actors mistakenly assumed Yejun had caused this flow and began showing interest.

“Oh my.”

“Yejun.”

“You were great at the reading.”

“Which school did you attend?”

“Oh!”

“Really?”

“I went there too!”

“You’re my junior!”

“Let’s get close.”

“Yejun.”

“I saw CEO Park Jung-woo come by earlier.”

“Are you signing with SU E&M?”

“Wow.”

“You’ll be a star.”

“Should I get your autograph now?”

“I have high expectations, Yejun.”

“Your voice resonance at the reading was incredible.”

“I couldn’t understand the Chinese, but it gave me goosebumps.”

“Do that again during filming.”

“I’m counting on you.”

Wow.

Senior actors I’ve only seen on TV are showing interest first.

Is this a dream?

If it was, who cared?

It was a good dream.

Still, he needed to watch his words.

Responding jokingly to jokes could make him seem like he was showing off.

At wrap parties, the center usually belonged to directors, veteran actors, and leads.

The veteran actor was gone.

And yet, the lead actor’s table sat empty.

Only Jisoo and Manager Kim remained.

Watching his deserted table, Jihoon clenched his teeth.

f*ck.

This is all because of Ma Yejun.

If it weren’t for him, I wouldn’t have fallen out with Wooju.

Damn it.
