Would Li Lin Guan’s fate truly be reversed in the final minute? Tune in to ‘Today’s Talk’ to find out… ‘Cough, cough, wrong script.’
When the peculiar voice echoed once more, Qiao Xia didn’t hesitate. He simply uttered the command, ‘Use’.
Immediately, Qiao Xia’s vision plunged into darkness again, and he found himself in a state where both sight and hearing were utterly sealed.
Concurrently, control over his own body vanished, leaving him capable of directing nothing but his thoughts.
Yet, this time, he felt no trace of panic.
Instead, he was remarkably composed.
Having already undergone this experience once before, anyone would remain unhurried the second time around.
Qiao Xia’s primary curiosity, however, lay in precisely how he was meant to reverse the outcome…
When Qiao Xia had previously witnessed the future, Li Lin Guan’s demise by the rebar had been virtually instantaneous.
It was a scenario where any attempt at rescue would have been utterly futile; he could only watch, paralyzed, as Li Lin Guan died before his eyes, his body splattered with blood.
Recalling that gruesome sight, Qiao Xia involuntarily shivered. He was merely an ordinary high school student; did he truly have to endure such horrors?
Yet, no one could have ever conceived that a simple street fight could escalate into a fatal incident.
He had been called out for a beating, only to end up saving his aggressor. Qiao Xia felt truly magnificent. It was a pity Li Lin Guan remained oblivious; otherwise, Qiao Xia wondered if he would still carry himself with such an arrogant, nose-in-the-air demeanor.
And what, precisely, was the deal with that peculiar voice?
The ability to foresee the future was, even just contemplating it, remarkably wondrous.
Possessing such a function, the strange voice’s origin had to be anything but ordinary!
‘Could it be that he had stumbled upon a protagonist’s blessing from a novel, manifesting as a “golden finger”?’
‘But he hadn’t done anything to deserve it!’
‘Typically, before acquiring a “golden finger,” don’t novel protagonists usually have to undergo specific trials to trigger such an opportunity, then seize it in one fell swoop, ultimately transforming into an arrogant, heaven-defying “Long Aotian” figure?’
‘Or was it possible to gain a “golden finger” automatically, simply by lying around?’
‘If so, it would be a true boon for the lazy, a warm embrace from the universe…’
Qiao Xia’s thoughts began to drift, a jumbled mess in his mind, as he sought to ignore the oppressive darkness and silence, uncertain when normalcy would ever return.
Compared to his prior glimpse into the future, the current period of darkness seemed to stretch on much longer.
Perhaps, with his sight and hearing completely suppressed, the very progression of time had slowed, making the duration feel interminable to Qiao Xia.
Mercifully, this state did not persist. As the darkness before him dispersed like clouds scattering in the wind, Qiao Xia regained control of his body and his vision returned to the unfolding scene.
No sooner had his vision returned than Qiao Xia was greeted by a truly eye-watering sight.
He had shifted approximately half a meter from his original spot; now, barely a shoe’s length away, a long rebar stood impaled vertically before him.
Qiao Xia’s face was directly opposite the rebar; a slight lean forward would have brought his feet into contact with it.
But this was not the primary reason for the jarring visual.
It was…
Qiao Xia’s face was remarkably serious, and he stood upright.
In his arms, he cradled Li Lin Guan, whose face was a mask of sheer terror, hands still clutching his chest in shock.
And yes, it was a princess carry.
The surrounding students, a crowd of onlookers, stood utterly dumbfounded, staring blankly at Qiao Xia and Li Lin Guan, seemingly unable to process the events that had just unfolded.
What was clearly about to be a one-sided beating had, with the sudden descent of a rebar from the sky, almost transformed into a funeral procession.
Had Qiao Xia not reacted with lightning speed to yank Li Lin Guan aside, that rebar would undoubtedly have impaled him directly.
At the mere thought of such a gruesome scene, everyone present shivered involuntarily, their faces contorted with profound fear.
Fighting was one thing, but if a life were lost, these students would certainly be terrified.
“Oh my heavens, this construction crew is absolutely insane! Rebar just drops out of the sky without warning. I bow to no one but them!”
“I nearly died of fright! If Qiao Xia hadn’t reacted so quickly, someone would be dead by now.”
“Did you all see that just now? Qiao Xia’s movements were incredibly swift. The moment I spotted the rebar falling, he instantly yanked Li Lin Guan clear. Truly impressive.”
“Phew, no, I have to report this to the school! This construction team is far too reckless. What if I’m the next one to be impaled by falling rebar?!”
Once the initial shock subsided, the students began to chatter incessantly. Some occasionally shouted curses towards the tower crane.
Others, however, cast admiring glances at Qiao Xia, now regretting their earlier judgment of him as cowardly.
If Qiao Xia had truly been a coward, he wouldn’t have saved Li Lin Guan just now; he would have prioritized his own survival.
After all, one wrong move could have resulted in not only Li Lin Guan being impaled, but Qiao Xia’s own life being jeopardized as well.
Moreover, the original purpose of this gathering was for Li Lin Guan to teach Qiao Xia a lesson.
Now, however, the tables had turned dramatically.
Before the ‘lesson’ could even commence, Li Lin Guan had been saved by Qiao Xia… With this turn of events, even the deepest animosity couldn’t ignite a fight.
As these thoughts circulated, the students’ gazes collectively shifted towards Li Lin Guan. This put immense pressure on Qiao Xia, who was still holding Li Lin Guan in a princess carry.
Moreover, continuously carrying a man weighing over a hundred *jin* was an arduous task. Unable to worry about appearances any longer, Qiao Xia simply dropped him onto the ground.
Instantly, Qiao Xia’s arms felt a profound relief, an undeniable comfort washing over him.
The outcome reversal spoken of by the strange voice had, against all odds, truly succeeded!
The unfolding events had diverged from their original trajectory, successfully ensuring Li Lin Guan’s survival and averting his tragic demise by the impaling rebar.
So, was this peculiar voice truly his ‘golden finger’ after all?
“Qiao Xia, I… thank you for saving me just now.”
Despite being unceremoniously dropped by Qiao Xia, Li Lin Guan couldn’t help but shiver when he glanced over and saw the rebar standing rigidly impaled in the ground. He then offered Qiao Xia his thanks with a noticeably improved demeanor.
Moments ago, he had brushed perilously close to death.
No matter how much he resented Qiao Xia because of Duan Yulan, Li Lin Guan couldn’t deny that he was his savior. So, what was there left to fight for?
He might as well give his honest thanks!
Upon hearing Li Lin Guan’s gratitude, Qiao Xia raised an eyebrow in mild surprise. He hadn’t anticipated such a remarkably easy resolution; it was, undeniably, a good outcome.
“It’s fine. Just don’t cause me any more trouble in the future, you…”
“What are you all doing gathered here, a group fight?! Do you still have any respect for school rules? All of you, come here!”
Just as the situation was about to reach a peaceful conclusion, a voice filled with stern authority suddenly boomed, abruptly cutting Qiao Xia off.
Qiao Xia quickly looked up, immediately spotting the Dean of Students, bamboo cane in hand. The Dean’s bald spot, gleaming under the sun, reflected a blinding light that made it difficult to meet his gaze.
At the same moment, Zhou Li’s short, plump figure appeared, standing beside the Dean, acting cocky. He shot Qiao Xia a smug, winking look.
Clearly, Zhou Li was the one who had called the Dean over…
