(Flashback)
It was time for the nuns to copy books.
As part of their daily lessons, even saintess candidate Na Naya diligently transcribed texts.
A “click” sounded.
The door opened.
No doubt, it was Meng Linna, back from the dean’s scolding.
Closing the door, the blonde nun muttered under her breath.
“If they won’t kick me out even after this, don’t blame me for being ruthless…”
Na Naya heard everything but didn’t care.
She greeted her warmly.
“Sister Meng!”
The monks’ disapproving glares reminded her that shouting in the library was wrong.
She waved Meng Linna over instead.
Meng Linna didn’t refuse, following her to a small booth.
As a saintess candidate, Na Naya had the privilege of a private booth.
Its soundproofing was excellent—no worries about being overheard.
But Meng Linna left the door ajar.
Maybe the voices could leak out.
“Sister, you okay?”
Na Naya grabbed Meng Linna’s hands.
“I heard the dean called you again. He didn’t punish you, did he?”
“No big deal. They just found the letter I wrote you.”
Meng Linna patted Na Naya’s head casually.
“He’s not thrilled about our relationship, that’s all.”
Na Naya’s white hair felt oddly nice.
Meng Linna patted it again.
Na Naya squinted comfortably, like a petted dog.
“That’s so wrong of the dean!”
Thinking of the dean reading Meng Linna’s letter, the little saintess waved her fists.
“Our relationship’s perfectly wholesome…”
Her voice trailed off.
She knew the claim was shaky.
But the idea of the dean spying on their pure friendship made her mad.
“Come on, let’s not talk about that. What’s Na Naya up to?”
The innocent saintess obeyed, showing her notebook.
“I’m copying How to Deal with Bad Women’!”
“Nice work.”
Meng Linna flipped through it.
“But isn’t this word wrong?”
“Huh, really?”
Na Naya leaned in, looking where Meng Linna pointed.
The notebook read, “Bad women, everyone must punish them.”
“What’s wrong with it?”
“Of course it’s wrong.”
Meng Linna patiently pointed out the error.
(TN: Honestly I don’t really know how this joke even works so please let me know in the comments and I will fix it)
“This ‘punish’ should be ‘pig’ from ‘Mother *.’”
“It means ‘turn into a Mother *’!”
“That’s not right!”
Na Naya’s scholarly instincts told her she hadn’t mistranslated the Latin.
“It’s ‘pig’!”
Meng Linna gave a wholesome smile.
“It means ‘turn into a Mother *’ here!”
“This…”
As a pure saintess candidate, Na Naya got the meaning.
Her face flushed red, unsure how to react.
***
“You were dreaming again, huh?”
Rubbing her eyes, Na Naya registered the evil fire god’s taunting voice before the sunlight.
“None of your business.”
Still groggy, she didn’t want to explain to the damned deity inside her.
“I heard you talking in your sleep. About that woman.”
The god sounded thrilled, like a kid finding an ant nest, ready to make a mess.
“Oh.”
Na Naya kicked off her blanket, grabbing the remote to turn off the AC.
“No explanation?”
Seeing Na Naya’s disinterest, the god pushed.
“I heard you. You said you’d make her yours.”
“You misheard.”
Flat denial, no elaboration.
But the firmness only raised more suspicion.
The evil fire god wasn’t done.
“No, you definitely said you’d make her your Mother…”
“I said you misheard!”
Na Naya cut it off.
This guy was so annoying.
No wonder it was called an evil god—spot on.
After arguing, Na Naya’s foggy morning brain cleared a bit.
***
“Morning!”
By the time Na Naya reached the guild hall, the other two were waiting.
Since Miao Miao Niya made knockoff potions, Meng Linna sold less.
She only supplied high-potency ones to select adventurers now.
But Na Naya was puzzled.
Stone Fang and Kelly always acted as a pair.
Today, only Kelly was here.
Noticing her confusion, Kelly explained.
“Stone Fang drank too much last night. She’s still out of it. We can’t take missions today. I’m here to tell you, then I’m off to care for her.”
Meng Linna nodded.
“Yeah, Stone Fang downed a lot.”
True to her warrior nature, Stone Fang drank wildly.
Mixing drinks into a “deepwater bomb.”
No surprise she was a mess.
“I’m off then?”
Having informed them, Kelly wasn’t staying.
Na Naya nodded.
“No problem, go take care of her.”
“Mm.”
Kelly left the hall.
Now it was just the backline duo.
Despite Na Naya’s forgiveness, Meng Linna felt pressure facing her.
She needed to start a conversation.
Eyeing the Crushing Giant Hammer on Na Naya’s back, Meng Linna teased.
“You’re actually using that thing…”
“This?”
Na Naya held the hammer.
“Bought it with money. Best not to waste it.”
“No, it’s not about waste.”
Meng Linna sweated, watching the petite girl swing the massive hammer with ease.
