Chapter 7: She Just Wants to Stick to Yu Xiu

Yu Xiu frowned slightly.

As Bu Xiwei spoke, she unconsciously leaned in again, completely closing the small gap Yu Xiu had just created by stepping back.

This action—done so naturally, as if it were second nature—only made Yu Xiu more suspicious of her strange behavior.

There was one thing Yu Xiu was sure of:
Bu Xiwei wasn’t a transmigrator like her.

Yu Xiu had carefully studied the character of Demon Lord Bu Xiwei from The Five Elements Immortal Domain.
And aside from her behavior toward Yu Xiu specifically, everything about Bu Xiwei was perfectly in line with the Demon Lord she knew.

Her cultivation, her aura, her habits, her demeanor—

If someone else had taken over Bu Xiwei’s body, there was no way they could have portrayed the ruler of the demonic realm for over a thousand years so flawlessly.

No.
Bu Xiwei’s oddness only showed when she was dealing with her.

Yu Xiu silently sorted through the possibilities.

The most unlikely explanation was that Bu Xiwei suffered from some kind of unknown mental illness, and something she’d done had triggered a breakdown.

But she quickly dismissed that theory.

It was obvious that, in Bu Xiwei’s eyes, she was different.

In this life, Yu Xiu’s identity was a complete blank slate.

She was just an orphaned village girl with no parents, no background—not even fully grown yet.

She’d only been chosen as a disciple because of the Five Elements Sect’s policy of testing all children in their territory for spiritual roots.

There was no way she could have any prior connection to Bu Xiwei.

That left only two real possibilities:

First: Bu Xiwei had mistaken her for someone else from her past.

Second: Bu Xiwei… was a reincarnator.

And in a past life Yu Xiu had no memory of, the two of them must have shared a profound connection.

Yu Xiu leaned toward the second.

Whatever the reason for Bu Xiwei’s strange attitude, one thing was certain:

Right now, to Yu Xiu, Bu Xiwei was still a powerful and dangerous enemy from the opposing side.

The two of them stood very close.
Every subtle shift in Yu Xiu’s expression was caught by Bu Xiwei immediately.

When she saw the cool indifference in Yu Xiu’s eyes and brows, Bu Xiwei felt a sharp pang of discomfort.

She stood there for a long moment, frozen, before she finally realized what was happening.

Once she calmed down, Bu Xiwei could understand why Yu Xiu was acting this way toward her.

In their previous life, when they first met, Yu Xiu had already reached the Nascent Soul stage and stood at the very top of the righteous path.

Their cultivation levels were close. Their statuses weren’t so different.

Back then, Bu Xiwei’s title of “Demon Lord” was little more than an empty shell.

And because Yu Xiu was naturally kind and gentle, she’d always treated her with extra care and tolerance.

The truth was, in their last life, the one truly in control between them had always been Yu Xiu.

And though Bu Xiwei could logically understand all of this—

Emotionally, she still felt wronged.

Why?!
Why was Yu Xiu treating her like this now?!

The more aggrieved she felt, the more defiant she became.

If Yu Xiu wanted distance?

Then she would do the opposite—
She would stick to her until Yu Xiu got used to it again!

Yu Xiu stared at Bu Xiwei’s angry, flustered face, completely puzzled.

What exactly was this Demon Lord trying to do now?

Still, she had to admit—

From a purely visual standpoint, watching such a world-class beauty pout in frustration was unexpectedly captivating.

Especially with Bu Xiwei’s bold, striking features.
Her slightly puffed cheeks and furrowed brows created such a sharp contrast that she actually looked a little…

Cute.

Almost like she was sulking.

Then—before Yu Xiu could react—Bu Xiwei’s figure vanished on the spot.

“…?!”

The next moment, she felt a light weight settle on her left shoulder.

Turning her head, she saw…

A round, chubby little bird perched there.

The bird’s feathers were a brilliant sapphire blue, with deep black markings along its wings and tail.

Its tail was long and elegant, shimmering like fine silk.

Its underbelly glowed gold, glittering faintly in the light.

With that dazzling coloring and distinct form, there was no need to guess—

Yu Xiu instantly recognized this bird as Bu Xiwei’s transformed form.

In her bird form, Bu Xiwei clutched Yu Xiu’s robe with her tiny claws, lifted her small head proudly, and puffed out her fluffy golden belly for display.

“…”

Now she was even more certain:

Bu Xiwei definitely knew her very well.

Because this particular type of fluffy, round-headed bird was one of Yu Xiu’s greatest weaknesses.

When facing Bu Xiwei’s human form, Yu Xiu could remain detached, rational, and focused on how to deal with her.

But looking at this little bird version of her…

Yu Xiu had only one thought:

…So cute

With a nearly imperceptible sigh, Yu Xiu turned her gaze away.

She silently accepted Bu Xiwei’s choice to perch on her shoulder like this.

This Demon Lord clearly intended to stick close to her, and right now, Yu Xiu had no way to stop her.

If she had to choose between Bu Xiwei clinging to her in human form or in this adorable bird form…

Well, the bird was at least less intrusive.

Seeing her acquiescence, the little bird puffed out her chest even more, looking extremely proud of herself.

She knew Yu Xiu couldn’t resist this trick!

Bu Xiwei was originally human, not some bird who’d gained sentience.

In their previous life, she’d accidentally discovered this transformation by chance.

She was shocked to find that Yu Xiu loved it.

Yu Xiu often held her in her palm, gently stroking her dark blue feathers and golden fluff with incredible tenderness.

So naturally, Bu Xiwei planned to use the same method again.

As she gleefully tapped her claws against Yu Xiu’s shoulder, Yu Xiu’s attention had already shifted.

Two evil cultivators were rapidly approaching in the distance.

Yu Xiu’s instincts told her they were probably connected to the clues she’d found back in Qingshui Village.

Glancing around, Yu Xiu searched for the stealth mask she’d lost earlier.

As always, Bu Xiwei noticed her every move.

The moment Yu Xiu’s eyes started scanning the area, Bu Xiwei instantly understood what she was looking for.

Without even lifting a claw, Bu Xiwei simply glanced in a certain direction.

A small mask floated over from there, landing precisely in Yu Xiu’s hand.

Yu Xiu was momentarily speechless.

But in the end, she still gave a polite:

“Thank you, Your Excellency.”

Then she quietly put the high-grade spiritual artifact back on her face.

After all, she couldn’t just expose herself openly to the approaching evil cultivators.

This mask only worked on cultivators at the Nascent Soul stage and below.

Against someone like Bu Xiwei—already at mid-stage Soul Departure Realm—it was completely useless.

But still—

Bu Xiwei was not happy.

The mask only covered half of Yu Xiu’s face, but unfortunately, it was the left side—
The exact side Bu Xiwei was perched on.

She’d finally gotten to see Yu Xiu’s full face.

And now it was suddenly covered again?

Absolutely unacceptable.

With a soft little huff, Bu Xiwei flapped her wings and took off from Yu Xiu’s shoulder, circling behind her.

Then she landed neatly on the silver hairpin on Yu Xiu’s right side.

There, the stunning little bird blended perfectly into the hairpin’s design, as if she’d always been part of it.

“…”

…Demon Lord, you are far too lively.
