This day, Su Cheng mourned for her old companion for two minutes.
Just because Su Cheng was startled by the sudden appearance of Yin Xuelian, she couldn’t hold onto her phone, leading to her little phone taking a dive.
Su Cheng stood there blankly, her dark eyes staring in the direction where her phone had fallen, as if a precious treasure had vanished from her world.
Her phone, which had been with her for two and a half years, was gone just like that. Su Cheng felt a pang of heartache.
Yin Xuelian stood beside Su Cheng, full of apology, unable to think of anything to comfort her.
But the next second, Su Cheng’s actions startled Yin Xuelian.
“Hey, hey, Su Cheng, what are you doing?”
“No, I have to fish out my phone!”
Su Cheng’s petite body squeezed through the gaps in the railing; her flat chest proved to be a distinct advantage here.
“No, it’s dangerous like this.”
Yin Xuelian saw the “No Swimming” sign not far away and tried to stop Su Cheng.
But Su Cheng ignored it all, rolled up her pant legs, and tentatively stepped into the water. The clear lake wasn’t very deep; near the shore, the water only covered Su Cheng’s calves.
Seeing this, Yin Xuelian disregarded her own image. After all, it was her teasing that caused Su Cheng’s phone to fall in. She climbed over the railing and entered the lake water.
“I’ll help you~! Hey, hey, hey, Su Cheng, watch out!”
The muddy ground by the lake was unexpectedly slippery. After Yin Xuelian climbed over the railing, she lost her balance and slid uncontrollably towards Su Cheng.
Su Cheng looked towards Yin Xuelian at the sound, only to see Yin Xuelian directly charging at her like a beautiful impact.
“Catch me!”
“Upperclassman! You’re tricking… me… Gulp, gulp…”
Su Cheng caught Yin Xuelian, but both of them tumbled into the water, splashes engulfing them.
Su Cheng, who was submerged first, tightly shut her eyes, frantically clutching Yin Xuelian’s fragrant, soft, delicate body.
Su Cheng’s tender lips were suddenly pressed against something warm and soft, then in an instant, a chill came over her. For a moment, she couldn’t tell what she had kissed.
At least it was something with warmth.
‘Did I just kiss a fish in the water?’
‘But do fish’s mouths smell this good and feel this soft?’
‘If so, it would be a real pity for my first kiss to be with a fish from this lake.’
‘Fish for dinner…’
“Su Cheng, Su Cheng…”
A soaking wet Yin Xuelian lifted Su Cheng out of the lake in a classic princess carry.
“Cough, cough, cough, upperclassman, am I… not dead yet?”
Su Cheng, coughing out several mouthfuls of lake water, blinked dazedly, and Yin Xuelian’s delicate face gradually came into focus.
Compared to half a minute ago, Yin Xuelian’s face had gained a few blushes unique to a young girl, her pink hair stuck together, and water droplets clung to her face, sliding down her fair cheeks.
What intrigued Su Cheng was why her face was red.
“You little idiot, you’re still alive. Got dazed from choking on a few mouthfuls of water?”
Su Cheng gave an awkward smile, her body suspended, as if in heaven.
But she knew she hadn’t died.
Realizing she was being held by Yin Xuelian, Su Cheng hastily urged her to put her down.
“Upperclassman, put me down quickly!”
Su Cheng stared at Yin Xuelian with a slightly pleading look.
Recalling the post she saw at noon, if someone were to take another picture of them now and post it on the school forum, it would be even more explosive.
“Oh? What if I don’t let go?”
Yin Xuelian gazed at Su Cheng in her arms with a meaningful look.
All Su Cheng saw in her eyes were mischievous thoughts.
“Our photos are already headlines on the forum; presumably, the whole school knows,” Yin Xuelian squinted, half-smiling, somewhat blurred under the night.
“It’s not that exaggerated. Besides, why care so much about online comments?”
“I almost got recognized today.”
“That’s just ‘almost.’ You still weren’t recognized, right? Besides, what if you were recognized?”
“I… I don’t know either…”
Yin Xuelian’s question truly stumped Su Cheng; it seemed quite reasonable.
“Right? Besides, are you really that afraid of being involved with me?”
Yin Xuelian hit Su Cheng’s sore spot; she was indeed afraid of being involved with Yin Xuelian.
To avoid future trouble, the less interaction with Yin Xuelian, the better.
But in the current situation, dared she say it directly?
“Hmm? Why aren’t you answering me? Do you believe I’ll throw you into the middle of the lake to feed the fish? The water there is much deeper than here.”
Su Cheng immediately snapped out of her thoughts.
“Upperclassman, please spare me. I… I still want my parents to see me on the day I receive my graduation certificate.”
Yin Xuelian’s lips curved slyly. She tightened her hold on Su Cheng’s legs, her arms shaking slightly, as if she truly intended to toss her out.
“Then answer me, do you not want to be involved with me?”
Su Cheng sweated profusely while struggling internally. For now, it was best to save her life, because she couldn’t swim!
“No, no! Upperclassman, you’re overthinking it. Upperclassman is a big campus belle, beautiful and kind-hearted. You definitely wouldn’t throw me to feed the fish, right?”
Yin Xuelian smiled faintly, a sweet smile that Su Cheng was familiar with, but it now carried an added touch of delight.
“Of course not. I haven’t had enough yet, how could I let the fish have all the fun?”
“Huh? What did you say, upperclassman?”
Yin Xuelian shook her head, changing the subject.
“Call me Sister Lian.”
Su Cheng gasped, recalling that in her previous life, Yin Xuelian had also demanded that Su Cheng call her that.
History always repeats itself with astonishing similarity.
“Sister… Lian…”
“Stammering? Do you not want to say it?”
“No, no! Sister Lian!”
Only after Su Cheng called out earnestly this time did Yin Xuelian let her off the hook.
“Sister Lian, let’s change places to talk. It’s fine if we don’t find the phone.”
“Alright, but I did find the phone. Let’s get up first.”
Upon hearing this, Su Cheng’s somewhat dejected face immediately brightened, her gloom sweeping away.
“Oh, that’s really great.”
Yin Xuelian picked up Su Cheng’s small slipper, helped her put it on her foot before setting her down on the bank, then she too left the lake and headed to the pavilion by the lake.
“It seems to be broken already.”
Yin Xuelian tried to light up the phone screen, but there was no response.
Su Cheng knew this would be the outcome, so she hadn’t held out much hope, only wanting to see the phone’s remains as a memento.
“There’s nothing we can do, it must have gotten water damaged.”
Su Cheng took the phone Yin Xuelian handed her, making no attempts to turn it on, just staring blankly at the ink-black screen.
The evening breeze brought a chill, and the completely soaked girl felt even colder, her delicate body trembling slightly.
Yin Xuelian, her voice full of apology, softly promised Su Cheng: “It’s all my fault. I’ll buy you a new phone tomorrow. Do you still want this brand of phone?”
Su Cheng shook her head, refusing Yin Xuelian’s offer.
“No need, Sister Lian would be spending too much. I still have an old phone that works.”
Although she said that, Su Cheng knew her old phone was particularly inconvenient to use; games were unplayable, and it could only be used for calls and chats.
Yin Xuelian’s family background was quite privileged. In her previous life, Su Cheng had often asked Yin Xuelian to buy her this and that, and Yin Xuelian would always agree, never refusing.
But in this life, Su Cheng didn’t want to be like that again.
Yin Xuelian’s tone was firm: “No, I will definitely buy you a new one.”
Snatching the phone from Su Cheng’s hand, Yin Xuelian examined it to remember the brand, then returned the phone to her.
At this moment, looking at the bright moon in the sky, Su Cheng finally remembered something important.
“Sister Lian, what time is it now?”
Yin Xuelian looked at her watch.
“Seven-fifty, what’s wrong?”
“Oh no! The class meeting!”
Su Cheng immediately lost her composure, standing up with a whoosh.
“I have to go now, upperclassman, let’s talk next time…”
“Call me Sister Lian!”
Yin Xuelian watched Su Cheng’s fleeing figure, her heart a mix of dissatisfaction and joy.
She still wanted to chat with Su Cheng for a while longer, but time didn’t allow it.
Her fair, slender fingertips touched her rosy lips, and the lingering hint of fragrance caused ripples in the girl’s calm eyes. The fingertips stained with the scent slowly moved into her mouth, savoring it…
“My little darling, so sweet…”
“Tomorrow, I’ll give you a surprise…”
