Chapter 77: It Will Be Okay

I’m planning to start with just two or three people lightly.

Since there is already a precedent in Japan, I could follow the 5-person system, but I felt it was premature.

Since it’s a completely new business, I decided it would be better to start small and assess the situation.

Likewise, since it’s an unfamiliar company to Koreans, I thought there would be few applicants, but there were over 150 applications submitted by email.

It inevitably took a considerable amount of time to check and classify them all one by one.

“But why am I even involved in the classification work…?”

The desired character direction in the application form.

As I roughly classified the character traits described in various ways, that question suddenly occurred to me.

Why am I doing paperwork at the company using my precious weekend?

“Because the most expert is the child editor. Besides, that judgment is trustworthy. Among the VTubers uploaded on the Kirinuki channel so far, there was no one who couldn’t escape from being a hako, starting with Osorin’s discovery?”

“That’s true, but.”

The VTubers I Kirinuki are basically only those with broadcast potential.

Broadcasts that push cuteness or sexiness as the only selling point didn’t interest me much.

Such things are only additional parts.

Broadcasting should be fun in terms of broadcasting itself.

Cuteness and sexiness are just spices that can make a fun broadcast even more enjoyable.

“Even if it’s me, I can’t know what kind of person they are just from these documents. I need to watch them broadcast to judge.”

“Still, please take a look and see if there’s anyone who catches your eye. Unique people will stand out even in these documents.”

Someone who catches my eye.

It’s not that there aren’t such people.

People who came up with original characters. People with unusual pasts. Broadcasters with considerable recognition, and so on.

People with broadcasting experience were easier to grasp because I could judge their style.

Although broadcasting experience was irrelevant for application, it doesn’t mean that it’s not considered at all when selecting.

While reading and classifying the documents one by one, I found someone with a slightly unusual background.

“Japanese? Not even mixed-race, but an exchange student? No broadcasting experience, but this is….”

It seems like the spell checker was run several times, but the unfiltered Japanese way of speaking remained.

However, the content was shocking enough that such things didn’t matter.

“No, this person’s life itself is an RP?”

I thought I had a pretty spectacular start, but there was someone more serious.

Having different experiences from others.

This is a great help in creating RP and broadcast concepts.

That itself can attract more viewers than others and becomes the biggest weapon that can greatly expand the scope of growth.

‘This person is good.’

At least, it seems like they can generate buzz.

‘I-is this the right place?’

She arrived at the address she searched on the map, swallowed hard, and looked up at a building.

It’s not a very large building.

There wasn’t even any sign attached.

For some reason, the crime movie she watched a few days ago came to mind, but she quickly shook her head and entered the building.

It’s a company that uses its own name, so that can’t be true.

‘She said to come to room 208…’

Looking at the information board inside the building, it seems to be a place with several companies.

Since they are all names I’ve never heard of, they must be newly established or small and medium-sized enterprises.

Perhaps this building rents out offices to such businesses.

And similarly, there was no text written on the information board for room 208.

She, who was used to taking the stairs, went up the stairs right next to her to the second floor and stood in front of room 208.

Whew, after taking a deep breath once.

Knock knock-

“Come in.”

“Yes, yes!”

After receiving permission from a familiar voice, she enters.

“Ah, hello! I’m Kobayashi Kurumi, who applied this time! Please call me Kurumi!”

She bows her head and greets.

First impressions are important.

“Nice to meet you. I’m Kim Jina, the president of Byeolmuri here. You know that, right?”

“Yes, yes! I’m enjoying your broadcasts!”

“Thank you. Then, shall we sit here for now.”

The office is not large.

At most, it’s enough to put a few desks. And is the door at the end a storage room?

She sat down at a place that was set up like a small tea table and received the coffee that was prepared.

I can’t drink coffee, but I should just drink it.

At least it’s mix coffee, so that’s a relief.

But….

“Um…, but that child?”

“Ah, she’s my niece. I’m taking care of her for a while, so don’t mind her.”

A cute child doing something on the computer at a nearby computer desk.

She looks like she’s around 6th grade of elementary school.

She has a niece too.

“Today, we’re going to have a simple interview. Don’t be too nervous.”

“Yes!”

“Kurumi, your personal information is quite unique, so I’ve been keeping an eye on you. First of all, you’re Japanese.”

The president turned over the documents one by one and asked.

“Although we started at the same time, the market in Japan should be bigger. Is there a reason why you want to do it in Korea? Is it perhaps because of the special circumstances you wrote here?”

Special circumstances written on the application form.

My simple family history is written there.

“Yes…. Since I came to Korea as an exchange student. If possible, I want to get citizenship too.”

“I understand. The reason we’re interested in Kurumi is because you have different experiences from others. For VTubers, such unique parts become character traits. I notified you when I contacted you last time, but are you really okay with it?”

“Yes, it’s okay.”

Creating a VTuber RP based on my story.

It’s all in the past now, so it doesn’t matter much.

“Okay. Then, next is…”

After that, a simple question and answer session followed.

Why did you quit your last part-time job after only a year?

Can you balance it with your studies?

Are you aware of the work visa?

When are you thinking about naturalization?

Most of the questions were ones I had heard in part-time job interviews, so I could answer them without any problems.

And when I finished drinking all the coffee placed in front of me.

“The interview ends here. Thank you for your hard work.”

“Thank you!”

The president, who was checking a few things, nodded and smiled brightly.

“Then, this time, I’m going to check the most important part. Please follow me.”

The president stood up from her seat and flung open the door that I thought was a storage room.

And she showed the inside and introduced it.

“This is set up as a broadcasting room. Later, there will often be times when we have real-life collaborations with members or broadcast from the office, so I made it to use then. It’s well soundproofed and all the broadcasting equipment is set up.”

“Wow….”

Two large monitors. A keyboard and mouse that look expensive at first glance. The microphone is floating in the air, and there are two computers.

Were all broadcasters doing this?

“If you pass the final stage, we will support not only the avatar but also this entire setup, so don’t worry about the initial cost.”

Gulp, I swallow unconsciously.

I’ve only ever touched a laptop provided by the school as a personal computer in my life!

“First, please sit here. You know that Korean VTubers are different from Japanese ones, right? Live broadcasting is not the main focus, and YouTube is the main source of income.

You’re going to play a short story game, so please play it as if you’re really broadcasting and filming for YouTube.”

“Yes!”

“First, I’ve set up a basic avatar. I understand that you’re concentrating and making a serious face, but please pay attention to your expression as much as possible.”

I know it well because I’ve watched Osorin’s YouTube a lot.

Basically, she changes her expression according to the gameplay from a smiling expression.

That’s okay.

I’m confident in smiling.

“Occasionally, I’ll chat on the OBS screen or test donations will come up, so try communicating too. Since you said you have no broadcasting experience, I’m just letting you get used to it.”

“I understand!”

The OBS program displayed on the right monitor.

This is the screen that shows broadcasting, recording, and communication with viewers.

“I’ll be outside, so when you’re ready, press the record button and start.”

Click-

The door of the soundproof room closes.

“How does she look?”

Jina asked me, who was leaning back in the chair with a lollipop in my mouth.

Her face was still close to expressionless, but somehow it was full of confidence.

“You already like her, so why are you asking?”

“I need to hear the vice president’s opinion first.”

“Are you going to keep doing that? Well, I liked her too. To the point where I can’t believe she has no broadcasting experience.”

Usually, people who don’t broadcast or haven’t filmed YouTube videos have a certain characteristic when they film for the first time.

They don’t talk because they’re awkward.

Or they get too excited and have useless reactions or conversations.

It’s to the point where the recording can be edited right away and uploaded to YouTube.

“Then Kurumi is confirmed. Who should be the other one?”

“I have someone in mind….”

“Who?”

“That person who came yesterday afternoon.”

“Ah….”

The person who left a strong impression.

I was a little anxious, so I put it on hold….

“If we debut her with Kurumi, don’t you think their chemistry will be quite good? It would be fun if Kurumi showed her older sister moment and held the leash.”

“I can picture it…. Can you handle it?”

“…Wouldn’t it get better if we train her hard before debut?”

“If you can do it, I’m fine with it. There’s probably no one else whose calling is broadcasting as much as that person. It feels similar to Osorin, but Osorin worked hard to create it, and that person is just herself….”

To put it nicely, it’s unique, and to put it badly, it’s unstable.

But if Jina educates her well, it should be okay.

…It should be okay, right?
