“Luoyao!”

“Luoyao!”

“LUOYAO!!!”

In that moment, fear exploded in Noah’s heart.

She felt the stench of death.

Yelan Noah, who’d lived over three hundred years, had never feared death.

But when that fate loomed over her beloved, the terror was unbearable.

She held Luoyao, screaming her name hysterically.

No response came.

“Hah, did I miss… Oh well, no matter.”

Noah turned mechanically toward the voice.

The deranged lunatic, already riddled with wounds from Noah’s attack, lay on the ground.

Her remaining left hand clutched a pistol, firing the twelfth bullet from the magazine.

A shattered smile clung to Suyue’s broken face.

Mockery, disdain, triumph, gloating…

Before her life burned out, she’d meant to ambush Noah, aiming a final solid silver bullet at her head.

But her ravaged body couldn’t aim precisely.

By cruel luck, the bullet struck Luoyao’s heart instead.

Suyue knew this would break Noah more than killing her directly.

Watching her beloved die in her arms, that furious yet powerless expression—Suyue wanted to savor it forever.

“SU—YUE—!”

Noah charged like a madwoman, stomping Suyue’s head.

With a fierce yank, her blade tore through Suyue’s lungs and ribs.

White bone and red blood spilled from Suyue’s chest.

But how could that sate her rage?

Noah frenziedly mutilated Suyue’s corpse, her blade shredding flesh without pause.

She gutted Suyue’s organs, clutching her heart in her hand.

Why.

Why wasn’t it black?

Hah.

Noah crushed the killer’s heart without mercy.

She wept and screamed, tearing at Suyue’s mangled limbs.

“Why…”

“Why…”

“Give me back my Luoyao… Give her back!”

She sank her teeth into Suyue’s neck, but the moment blood hit her mouth, she gagged uncontrollably.

Bitter tears mixed with vomit, pooling on the ground.

Noah collapsed, clutching her stomach, sobbing.

“Luoyao… Luoyao…”

On the distant horizon, the sun rose slowly.

The dawn, symbol of rebirth and hope, couldn’t save her love.

She murmured Luoyao’s name over and over.

Maybe she should die in the sunlight, joining Luoyao…

“I can’t carry two people at once. So, are you going to lie there waiting to burn in the sun, or come with me to the safehouse to see if we can save Luoyao?”

Huangwei’s voice came from behind.

Her usual sharp tongue carried an undeniable sadness and pain.

Noah closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and rose slowly.

Like a walking corpse, she followed Huangwei, unable to look at Luoyao in her arms.

She couldn’t bear to see.

“Follow me,” Huangwei said.

Noah nodded blankly, no words.

They headed to a safehouse in the back mountains.

The other vampires had been freed by Huangwei, each with their own emergency hideouts.

They’d wait out the day, then plan.

This highly secret location, built long ago, was meant for such crises.

Noah often came here alone when feeling restless or oppressed, staying for days.

Through dense woods, they reached a cave hidden by bushes and leaves.

Inside was a converted safehouse, decently equipped—food, beds, a simple bookshelf, a rechargeable lamp.

Huangwei gently laid Luoyao on the bed, removing her jacket.

Luoyao’s chest was a bloody mess, but faint breathing and a heartbeat remained.

The bullet hadn’t directly pierced her heart.

Huangwei cleaned some blood, revealing the gunshot wound clearly.

Noah stared at it, frowning slightly. “Why does the wound show signs of corrosion…?”

“Suyue’s gun used bone-titanium silver bullets, designed to kill vampires. They release liquid silver upon impact, destroying a vampire’s body structure.”

“It looks like sulfuric acid corrosion on a human body.”

“Now, seeing similar marks on Luoyao’s chest wound, though faint, is odd.”

Huangwei didn’t dwell on it, saying softly, “She’s badly hurt. Her vitals could fade any moment.”

Noah bit her lip. “Can we do surgery here?”

Huangwei shook her head. “No. The castle’s medical room was destroyed, and it’s daytime. We can’t go out.”

“So… is Luoyao really beyond saving?”

Huangwei’s expression darkened.

She looked at Luoyao’s pale face, saying slowly, “We might extract the bullet by hand, but infection would still kill her.”

“Is it… a dead end?”

Noah sat gently by the bed, brushing Luoyao’s cheek.

Cold, bloodless.

Her vampire hearing picked up Luoyao’s faint heartbeat.

As Huangwei said, Luoyao’s life could slip away any second.

That fragile heart could stop at any moment.

No one expected this outcome for Luoyao.

They’d survived the Well of Atonement.

Earned the vampires’ acceptance.

Their lives were heading toward something better…

Yet one bullet cruelly ended it all.

Noah didn’t know how to face this.

After the earlier rage and grief, her emotions and heart felt numb.

Ah—

Noah’s head snapped up, as if struck by a thought.

“Huangwei, can you wait by the cave entrance for a bit?” she said softly.

“What are you going to do?”

“If surgery’s impossible and I can’t let her go like this, there’s only… one way left.”

Huangwei instantly understood Noah’s last resort.

“If you’re set on that, I must warn you of two things.

First, she’s always wanted to live as a human. When she wakes, she may not accept her new identity.

Second, you can only feed on her blood now. Other blood will cause severe rejection. If you save her, you might die of starvation in months.

So, Noah, are you sure?”

Noah held Luoyao’s small hand, lying carefully beside her.

“I’m sure.”

Hearing Noah’s resolve, Huangwei said no more.

She turned and walked to the cave entrance.

On the bed, Noah embraced Luoyao, whispering in her ear,

“My love, embrace the night.”
