Chapter 44: Girl’s Embrace

Do high school students make friends with elementary school kids?

Most high schoolers would probably think little brats are noisy and immature.

The age gap alone would make it impossible for them to hang out together.

Yet today, a peculiar friendship was taking shape.

Feng Muying, a high school girl, took the initiative to become friends with Lin You, a little boy.

With the bond of friendship, she could now care for him and look after him without feeling out of place.

The girl’s intentions were pure and kind.

“No one says high schoolers can’t be friends with elementary school students. It all depends on personal choice. I’d really like to be friends with you, Little You.”

Feng Muying encouraged the hesitant Lin You to take the first step toward their friendship.

“If I become friends with you, Sister Muying, won’t people laugh at you?”

Lin You instinctively considered others first.
Even though he wanted more friends, he voiced his worries to let Feng Muying think it over.

“If I had a friend as cute and sensible as you, Little You, others would be envious instead of laughing. You’re overthinking it.”

With those words, Feng Muying proved her sincerity—it was not a whim.

“B-but… cute, Sister Muying… don’t say that about me… I’m not cute at all.”

Lin You had always thought of himself as a hideous freak.
Being called cute left him flustered, too shy to lift his head.

“Little You, why are you so lacking in confidence? You really are a cute boy, in both character and appearance.”

Only elementary schoolers tended to magnify others’ flaws.
Feng Muying was nearly an adult; her mindset and moral compass were already mature.

The boy’s birthmark was a flaw, but it didn’t negate the fact that he excelled in many other ways compared to his peers.

“Ah, Sister Muying, don’t tease me like that…”

Lin You still lacked confidence.
He had endured countless strange looks since childhood, forming deep insecurities about his appearance that weren’t easily shaken.

“Back to the point, Little You, do you want to be friends with me or not? If you refuse, I’ll be heartbroken… I won’t be able to eat for three days and nights.”

Feng Muying wanted to establish their friendship first, then slowly help him overcome his insecurities.

“I do!”

Since she wasn’t afraid of being laughed at, what reason did Lin You have to refuse?
He nodded firmly in agreement.

“Hehe, then I guess I’ve got myself a boyfriend now. How delightful.”

Feng Muying smiled brightly, her delicate hand gently brushing back the boy’s hair.

“Didn’t Sister Muying have a boyfriend before? Why not? Don’t boys want to play with you?”

Lin You was too young to understand the subtleties of a teenage girl.

“Because I had to focus on studying, I didn’t have time for a boyfriend. Though some classmates paired up on their own.”

When talking about this, Feng Muying didn’t envy those her age busy with romance.

Studying hard now would mean plenty of quality boys in the future.
This was the guidance her mother had given her, and she agreed, dedicating herself to her studies.

“Then why be friends with me? Won’t it affect your studies?”

Lin You, half-understanding, grasped the heart of the matter.

“It won’t, Little You. You’ll only make me work harder to improve.”

Feng Muying quickly dismissed the boy’s wild imaginings.

“I don’t know, but if there’s anything I can do to help, I’ll try my best.”

Lin You’s mind was simple; he hoped to maintain the friendship through giving.

“I can take care of myself. Let me hold Little You, see how heavy you are… you’re a bit thin, I feel like you don’t even weigh sixty jin.”

Once their friendship was confirmed, Feng Muying felt at ease.
She lifted the boy onto her lap to measure his weight.

“It’s okay, I don’t want to be too fat.”

At first, Lin You squirmed awkwardly, but he quickly adjusted, resting the back of his head against the girl’s well-developed chest.

“If you’re too thin, your physical health won’t keep up. Tomorrow, I’ll bring over a few boxes of milk, you’ll drink a few bottles every day.”

Feng Muying didn’t just speak care—she acted on it.

“I don’t want that. I drink boiled water every day, I don’t like milk.”

Hearing the girl’s offer, Lin You immediately refused.
Even as friends, he was sensitive about receiving gifts.

Several boxes of milk—he had no idea how to repay that.

“Even if you don’t like it, you have to drink it. Don’t you want to grow taller? Look at your tiny arms and legs… people like to bully smaller kids.”

The girl’s gentle tone carried the firmness of an older sister.

“Milk must cost a lot…”

Lin You muttered weakly as he shifted slightly on her lap.

“Don’t you know I live in a convenience store? Milk is endless here. Some even go to waste when near expiration.”

Feng Muying lightly tapped the boy’s hand, keeping him obediently in her embrace.

“Then I’ll help Sister Muying drink some of the expiring milk. It’s a waste to throw it away.”

Reframing it, Lin You finally agreed.

“Thank you so much, Little You!”

Successfully winning over the boy, Feng Muying was in a good mood and couldn’t resist tugging gently at his small face.

Soft skin, amazing texture.

“Sister Muying, stop holding me, I’m not a little kid anymore.”

Unconsciously, Lin You had nestled in her arms for several minutes.
He didn’t dislike it, but it slightly hurt his image.
After all, he was six—not a toddler—and had some pride.

“When you graduate middle school, then you can tell me you’re not a child.”

The girl leaned down, resting her chin on the boy’s young shoulder, gently rubbing it.

“Hehe… it’s ticklish…”

Warm air brushed against his neck—Feng Muying’s breath.
Lin You was unusually sensitive to this, laughing uncontrollably.

“So being friends with a little boy… is this much fun?”

Feng Muying playfully blew air onto the boy’s neck and ears.

“Sister Muying, you’re so mean…”

Lin You couldn’t control himself, leaning back.

“Ah…”

The girl misstepped, and her delicate body toppled onto the bed.

“Are you okay? I didn’t mean to.”

Hearing her cry out, Lin You panicked, thinking something terrible had happened.
He quickly turned over to face her.

Feng Muying’s upper body was now lying flat on the bed, the boy straddling her legs, his small hands resting on her waist.

“Didn’t expect Little You to be so strong… you toppled me over.”

Feng Muying’s eyes sparkled with amusement; she stayed down, chatting lazily with the boy.

“It’s because it’s too ticklish… Sister Muying, don’t do that next time.”

Lin You sat upright while the girl lay down, finally giving him a chance to look down at her.
He couldn’t deny that even lying down, she looked impressive.

“Sister Muying, why are you… different from me here?”

The boy’s small hands, filled with pure curiosity, landed on Feng Muying’s chest.
