Join the ServerA thunderous roar, heavy enough to constrict one’s chest, reverberated through the woods.
The roars of beasts intertwined with the barks of dogs, while the forest birds had long since fled, leaving an unsettling silence in their wake.
Votila watched Mulee Hua, who was running away, tilting their head in confusion. ‘Was this girl abandoning Gasla?’ they wondered.
Mulee Hua, clutching her case, stopped after running about a hundred meters from where the two colossal beasts were locked in battle. Votila noticed that she had chosen a high vantage point, perfect for observing the full extent of the struggle.
The black monster and the white behemoth were entwined in a chaotic brawl, rendering the forest a scene of utter devastation. However, Votila could discern that the white beast was utterly outmatched, covered in wounds, while the black monster, though slightly disheveled, remained entirely unscathed.
‘This situation is rather grim,’ Votila mused. ‘That monster’s abilities even surpass those of a dragon.’
Votila felt a surge of indignation. If only they had possessed such a power—the ability to fully revive and strengthen themselves even on the brink of death—would they have been reduced to a mere black cat?
Yet, Votila had forgotten the sheer ferocity of their final battle in their previous life, and how many lives had been lost to their claws. No creature in the world was perfect; even dragons had their inherent flaws.
“Rinna? Can you feel it, that magic?” Mulee Hua spoke, breaking a long silence.
‘Huh? Is she talking to me? Of course, I can feel it!’ Votila thought. ‘This is the magic sensing ability that dragons pride themselves on, far superior to any other race.’
‘But what does it matter?’ Votila wondered, looking at Mulee Hua with a puzzled expression.
“That domineering and malevolent magic, supporting the magical program that enhances the puppet’s body… Could it be from some crystal-axis form of magic supply? No, if that were the case, Gasla would have shattered it long ago…
“The only possibility is that it comes from the bloodline itself… But I don’t know which race’s bloodline could possess such magic,” Mulee Hua murmured, thinking aloud.
Votila listened for a while, finding it difficult to comprehend. If she had to consider bloodlines, a significant portion of the flesh and blood comprising that puppet came from humans and ordinary magical beasts.
If there was any mysterious bloodline involved, it could only be Votila’s own dragon bloodline. The thought brought another pang of ‘stomachache’ to Votila.
“Because that magic is its support, that creature is so tenacious. To defeat it, we must exhaust its magic, but Gasla no longer has enough stamina…
“Or we could directly destroy the program that the magic supports… But we don’t know how that magical program is embedded within this biological puppet…” Mulee Hua seemed somewhat agitated. “Ugh! How is this even done? Not with a magic beast’s core, but directly embedded in the bloodline…”
Votila rolled their eyes. When things became too complicated, why not just destroy everything? In their past life, faced with such a situation, they would have simply unleashed a dragon’s breath, and all would have been well.
‘Hmm? Dragon’s breath?’
Votila suddenly felt a tremor within them, originating from the two giant beasts clashing in the distance. They sensed the magical fluctuations intensify dramatically.
Mulee Hua, too, seemed to sense something, stopping her soliloquy.
As the two colossal beasts exchanged blows, the black monster pinned Gasla to the ground. Its massive maw slightly parted, emitting a kaleidoscopic glow, and a chaotic yet domineering surge of magic could be felt gathering within its mouth, like a thousand rivers flowing into the sea.
‘This thing is…’ Votila struggled to articulate their current feelings.
For, the monster was now using the signature skill they had most frequently employed in their past life: Dragon’s Breath.
Though not a true dragon’s breath, if this monster were to unleash it now, Gasla’s life would surely be forfeit.
From a distance, Mulee Hua shouted loudly to Gasla: “Gasla! Rabbit Kicks Eagle!”
“Awoo!” Gasla, his mouth stained with blood, wrapped his massive claws around the black monster’s neck. Simultaneously, he braced his feet against its abdomen, tightening his grip on its neck and powerfully thrusting his legs, directly kicking the black monster off him. Kicking the monster away, Gasla immediately scrambled to his feet.
With a resounding boom, a breath attack shimmering with a rainbow glow shot past Gasla’s back, merely grazing his fur. It scorched a large black crater into the ground, sending dust and smoke billowing upwards.
Even with just a slight graze, the outer layer of fur on Gasla’s back was singed black. He shook his fur and once again lunged, wrestling with the black monster.
“This isn’t working. We need to resolve this quickly,” the blonde-haired girl said with a hint of helplessness.
“Meow?” Votila tilted their head, looking at Mulee Hua in confusion. ‘Does this girl have a way to defeat this monster?’
