Chapter 8: A Lifetime with You

The sound of running water stopped.

Hearing it, Shi Yubai quickly ended the phone call.

Xu Sui’an walked into the living room, droplets still falling from the ends of her long hair.

Holding a hairdryer, Shi Yubai walked behind her.

“Sit down. I’ll dry your hair.”

Xu Sui’an obediently sat on the sofa, happily enjoying her boyfriend’s pampering.

Three years.

It had been three years since Shi Yubai had the chance to dry her hair.

Yet his movements weren’t the least bit unfamiliar.

His fingers slipped gently through her silky black hair, his heart melting into a puddle.

After three long years…

He could finally dry his Suisui’s hair again.

Half-closing her eyes in comfort, Xu Sui’an tapped away on her phone.

[Dreamy Girl]: He drove me back today… and I secretly stole a couple of glances at him.

[May You Have Peace Every Year]: Look at you! You were sitting in the passenger seat, and you only dared sneak two glances?

You should’ve looked openly!

At least then you could’ve admired him a little longer.

[Snowflake Bit by Bit]: Mengmeng, did you ask your dream guy for his WeChat?

What a perfect opportunity! He took you back to your dorm—you could’ve treated him to a meal.

[Dreamy Girl]: I was so happy…

…I completely forgot to ask for his WeChat.

[May You Have Peace Every Year]: Mengmeng, there’ll be more chances. You’ve got Xue’er and me helping you. How could you possibly fail to win your dream guy over?

[Snowflake Bit by Bit]: Suisui’s right! You’re the only single one left in our dorm.

You’re just too timid.

If you like someone, you’ve got to say it out loud!

Charge ahead!

Win over your dream guy in one go, so all of us can be couples!

Shi Yubai set the hairdryer aside and gently combed through Xu Sui’an’s hair with his fingers.

The strands slipped through his fingertips, making him unconsciously curl them slightly.

“Xiaobai…”

“What kind of girl do you think Brother Nanzhou likes?”

Shi Yubai sat beside her and naturally lifted her calves onto his lap.

He began gently massaging her legs.

The pressure was neither too light nor too heavy—just enough to ease her fatigue.

So much had happened today.

Her emotions had been on a roller coaster, and she’d run around all day.

Her calves were genuinely a little sore.

Xu Sui’an narrowed her eyes in satisfaction, thoroughly enjoying the massage from her boyfriend.

“I don’t know what kind of girl Brother Nanzhou likes.”

“But one thing I do know…”

“He doesn’t have a girlfriend.”

Resting her chin in her hands, Xu Sui’an looked at the dimples on Shi Yubai’s cheeks.

“Mengmeng has had a crush on Brother Nanzhou for seven years.”

“She’s liked him quietly all this time.”

“I wonder if she’ll ever get her happy ending.”

“I actually think Brother Nanzhou is very lucky to be loved by someone like Mengmeng.”

“It’s just…”

“She’s too shy.”

“She only dares to admire him from afar.”

“She doesn’t even dare take a single step closer.”

Shi Yubai’s hands never stopped moving.

He hadn’t expected cheerful, confident Shen Meng…

…to have secretly loved He Nanzhou for seven years.

Seven years.

Always the same.

It was a rare kind of devotion.

He understood the anxiety of an unrequited love.

You wanted the person you liked to know…

Yet you were terrified they actually would.

When he’d first fallen for Xu Sui’an, he’d also hidden his feelings carefully.

He’d worried every day that if she found out…

They wouldn’t even be able to remain friends.

Fortunately…

Shi Yubai had been luckier than Shen Meng.

He’d had the privilege of growing up alongside Xu Sui’an.

He hadn’t missed a single year of her life.

And in the end…

After patiently waiting through the clouds…

He had finally seen the moon.

On the summer solstice of his twentieth year…

His long, secret love had finally blossomed.

“Suisui…”

“How about this weekend we invite Brother Nanzhou and Shen Meng to go hiking with us and watch the sunrise?”

“What a great idea!”

Sleepiness had already crept into Xu Sui’an’s voice.

The God of Dreams was calling her.

Shi Yubai looked up and realized she’d already fallen asleep.

He couldn’t help smiling.

Carefully, he lifted her into his arms and carried her into her bedroom.

He laid her gently on the bed and pulled a thin blanket over her stomach.

Lowering his head, he kissed her forehead.

“Good night…”

“My treasure.”

A tiny nightlight cast a warm, gentle glow across the room.

Shi Yubai turned to leave.

Just then…

Someone grabbed his hand.

Xu Sui’an clutched it tightly, her brows furrowing even in sleep.

“Xiaobai…”

“Don’t go…”

“Please don’t go…”

“Suisui.”

“I’m here.”

His heart softened completely.

He gently soothed the uneasy girl beside him.

Night quietly faded.

Morning arrived as promised.

Xu Sui’an slowly opened her eyes.

After a moment, she remembered where she was.

She quickly freshened up before walking into the living room.

A delicious aroma greeted her.

Looking up, she met Shi Yubai’s smiling eyes.

“Suisui.”

“Breakfast’s ready.”

Resting her chin in her hands, her eyes sparkled.

“It smells amazing!”

Shi Yubai removed his apron and carried over a bowl of wontons.

“Come and try them.”

Xu Sui’an scooped up one small wonton, blew on it gently, and popped it into her mouth.

Fresh.

Savory.

Delicate.

Exactly her favorite flavor.

It warmed both her heart and her stomach.

“Xiaobai…”

“You’re incredible!”

Shi Yubai’s expression softened.

He had dreamed of this scene countless times.

Opening his eyes each morning…

Seeing his Suisui…

Making her favorite little wontons for breakfast.

Watching her eat until her eyes curved into happy crescents…

His heart overflowed with sweetness.

Xu Sui’an…

I want to spend my whole life making wontons for you.

Shi Yubai stood beside a blue bicycle, quietly waiting.

Sunlight illuminated the young man’s handsome features, making him shine as brightly as the morning sun.

Xu Sui’an approached with the breeze.

She spotted him immediately.

For an instant…

It felt as though she’d returned to three years ago.

Back then, Shi Yubai had waited for her just like this beside his bicycle.

Their high school days…

Had been filled with carefree laughter.

“Hop on.”

His smile was dazzling, the dimples on his cheeks deep as he patted the bicycle’s back seat.

“Thanks for the ride, Xiaobai.”

Xu Sui’an climbed onto the back and wrapped her arms around his waist.

Shi Yubai looked down at the hands around him.

Joy spread through his eyes.

“Let’s go.”

The bicycle rolled down the road.

A gentle breeze lifted both their hair.

Their shadows stretched across the pavement—

the most beautiful scenery of all.

Xu Sui’an smiled.

This is wonderful.

Shi Yubai…

I’ll never lose you again.

For the rest of our lives…

I’ll hold your hand tightly…

And walk forward with you.

In the art studio…

Xu Sui’an’s paintbrush danced across the canvas.

Golden sunlight poured through the windows.

Willow leaves swayed gently in the breeze.

On the painting…

Two figures rode a bicycle together.

The wind lifted their hair.

Every flying strand radiated the carefree spirit of youth.

Leng Ningxue studied the painting, thoughtfully stroking her chin.

“Suisui…”

“This painting has such beautiful artistic depth.”

“When did your painting become this good?”

“Has it?”

Smiling faintly, Xu Sui’an wrote four words in the lower right corner of the canvas:

A Lifetime with You.

Shen Meng walked over to admire it, her eyes narrowing suspiciously.

“Tell the truth.”

“Have you been secretly practicing behind our backs?”

“‘A Lifetime with You’ is so sweet… and dreamlike.”

“The atmosphere is incredible.”

Xu Sui’an laughed and set down her brush.

“No way.”

“When would I even have time to practice in secret?”

“I’ve just been in a really good mood lately.”

“When you’re happy…”

“The sky looks bluer.”

“The clouds become unbelievably beautiful.”

“And inspiration comes naturally.”

“So that’s the secret!”

Leng Ningxue sighed dramatically.

“Love really is magical!”

She linked arms with Xu Sui’an.

“Class is over.”

“Let’s head to the cafeteria.”

“It’s Wednesday.”

“Sweet-and-sour pork ribs are my favorite.”

“Ah Yan already went ahead to save us seats.”

“Then what are we waiting for?”

“Good food should never be missed!”

Laughing together, Xu Sui’an, Shen Meng, and Leng Ningxue headed toward the cafeteria.

In the cafeteria…

Shi Yubai had just bought a serving of sweet-and-sour pork ribs.

They were Suisui’s favorite.

Ruan Qingyang’s eyes shifted before he looked at Shi Yubai.

“Brother Shi.”

“Qingqing loves sweet-and-sour pork ribs, but they’ve already sold out.”

“You don’t even like them.”

“Could you give your portion to my little sister?”

Ruan Qingqing looked at Shi Yubai expectantly.

“Brother Shi…”

“Could you part with them?”

“I haven’t had sweet-and-sour pork ribs in such a long time.”

“I’m sorry.”

Shi Yubai refused without the slightest hesitation.

“I bought these for my girlfriend.”

What a joke.

To him…

No one mattered more than Xu Sui’an.

Everyone else came second.
