Join the ServerSu Na looked somewhat awkwardly at the scattered arrows sticking out of the base of the target not far away.
Baron Kaibuli, who had been dragged over by her, stroked his chin for a moment before speaking.
“Hmm… this little toy Nana made is quite interesting.”
‘Ugh! This is embarrassing.’
Scratching her head, Su Na shouted instructions to the guards standing by at the target.
“What are you laughing at! Move the target forward five steps, quickly!”
Hearing his sister’s voice, Kyle quickly suppressed his laughter and moved the target a distance closer as she requested, bringing it to about twenty meters from Su Na.
As she reloaded the bolts, a rhythmic “shiu-shiu” sound filled the air, and several slightly quivering short arrows immediately lodged into the target.
Su Na nodded and continued.
“Another five steps forward!”
It wasn’t until the distance was narrowed to about ten meters that the sound of the arrows hitting the target became noticeably duller.
Only then did Su Na step forward in satisfaction, approaching the target to pull out the arrows.
At this distance, the arrowheads were firmly embedded in the target.
Based on the thickness of the target, Su Na estimated the power; it was already capable of causing significant wounds to a human body.
Su Na turned to look at Baron Kaibuli and smiled.
“Father, what do you think of this repeating crossbow?”
Hearing this, Kaibuli nodded, then shook his head.
“Being able to fire continuously is very interesting; it is much faster than any crossbow I know. But this power… it isn’t even very useful for hunting~”
In truth, he thought it wasn’t effective enough for hunting.
Within ten meters it had some utility, but if prey allowed a hunter to get that close, the choice of weapon would become secondary to proximity.
You might as well just rush forward and finish it by hand.
Furthermore, with such low power, even if it could pierce the skin of a beast, it likely wouldn’t break through the fat layer to cause real damage.
As for harming people, it would be even harder; she could fire at a wooden plank all day without it breaking.
However, fearing he might hurt his daughter’s feelings, Kaibuli didn’t speak so bluntly.
“What if it were used to deal with goblins? Do you think it’s feasible?”
Kaibuli was taken aback.
He had only just considered the general usefulness of the repeating crossbow’s attack; he hadn’t actually thought about whether it could be used against goblins.
After thinking it over carefully, Kaibuli’s expression became quite serious.
He looked at his youngest son, who had just walked up beside him, and said sternly, “Take a few men outside the defense zone and catch two goblins. Dead or alive is fine!”
“Yes, Lord Baron!”
Kyle gave a curious glance at the wooden crossbow in Su Na’s arms before taking his orders and leaving.
Su Na called out after him, “Kid, be careful!”
Kyle didn’t look back but waved his hand to signal he heard her.
Su Na smiled and shook her head.
In the original plot, Kyle’s story concluded on the battlefield.
Baron Kaibuli had two sons and one daughter: the eldest daughter Su Na, the second son Kaiqi, and the youngest son Kyle.
Regardless of any other relations, the eldest child was intended to inherit.
According to the rules of succession, Su Na was set to inherit the title and territory in the future.
Consequently, the other two had started planning for their own futures quite early.
Kaiqi spent most of his time studying and living within the Church.
Meanwhile, the youngest son Kyle followed his father into military training whenever he was free.
The relationship between the siblings was positive.
Even given the original owner’s lack of focus, the three did not clash over the inheritance.
They each followed the paths laid out by the family.
Without the intervention of the novel’s original plot, Su Na’s environment was one of familial stability.
Because of this, even though Su Na had transmigrated, she naturally looked upon this family with favor.
She didn’t have to wait long before Kyle and a squad of soldiers arrived.
They carried two green-skinned creatures and dumped them before the two.
Su Na leaned over slightly to look closer, her brows furrowing.
The creatures had pointed ears, hooked noses, and small-statured bodies.
They roughly shared a humanoid shape.
In Su Na’s mind, they appeared somewhat similar to an earlier stage of hominid evolution.
The chests of the two goblins were still rising and falling; they were both still alive.
“Tie one to the target.”
Kyle looked up at Su Na in surprise, finding her instruction unexpected.
In the past, the eldest sister had shown strong aversion toward such creatures.
Previously, she had been highly distressed upon seeing a goblin for the first time.
Kyle wondered why she was so composed now, to the point of using a live subject for a weapons test.
“What’s wrong?”
Seeing Su Na look towards him, Kyle shook his head.
“No, nothing.”
Kyle worked with the soldiers to tie the goblin to the target.
Su Na reloaded the bolts and raised the weapon.
A succession of arrows thudding into the target followed, accompanied by shrill noises echoing through the range.
