Staring at the effeminate, blond man sitting on the sofa with an air of arrogant superiority—a man who radiated the quintessential “Strongman” vibe—Su Na gasped in disbelief.
After finishing the files provided by the System, Su Na felt her cheeks and earlobes burning with a faint heat.
Don’t misunderstand; the girl wasn’t blushing from shyness. She was simply boiling with rage.
This fellow, Charlie, was the youngest son of a Count. One of the only three things he could be proud of was his face. It wasn’t that he was truly handsome, but rather that his skin was thick enough to deflect a cannonball.
The second thing was his title as the Count’s youngest son. It sounded intimidating at first glance, but in this kingdom, primogeniture was the law. He had no claim to the succession, nor did he have a powerful maternal family to back him. Once his eldest brother inherited the title, he would have no choice but to leave home and beg for his own scraps.
Only because the original Su Na had been a little “lick-dog,” sneaking him financial support, had he been able to maintain the facade of a nobleman.
The third thing he could boast of was his ability; he had quite decent talent for magic and could be considered a genius…
Don’t misunderstand again; this, too, wasn’t entirely his own doing.
Without the original Su Na desperately feeding him every variety of rare mana potion and precious magical material, he wouldn’t have had the resources to fully develop that talent—certainly not on the salary of his mother, a lowly maid.
Yet, even after the original owner gave so much, Charlie never acknowledged her family or her person in public, despite whispering ambiguous, misleading words in private. He even went out of his way to avoid her in public, terrified that the outside world might catch wind of their relationship.
Of course, the male lead wasn’t actually that principled. He just didn’t want the nature of their relationship exposed to others, even though he was never shy about taking what he wanted behind closed doors.
For example, right now~
“Miss Su Na, this low-level staff, crafted by the West Magic Association, is inlaid with the mana crystal of a 2nd-tier Flame Tiger. It boosts fire-attribute magic power by 5% and stores a single low-level ‘Flame Burst’ spell, which can be released instantly in a crisis to turn the tide. I’ll make an executive decision: for you, 3,500 gold coins will take it home.”
The bald, slightly pudgy merchant bowed to Su Na with a smarmy smile. As he spoke, Charlie was already turning the staff over in his hands, remarking with casual indifference, “Hmm, this staff is indeed quite good. It’s perfect to replace the primary-level one I’ve been using.”
The two female classmates following behind chimed in right on cue:
‘Wow! This staff is so beautiful! The amplification effect is excellent, too.’
‘If Senior Charlie had used this yesterday, he surely wouldn’t have lost to that country bumpkin from the next class, right?’
‘Hey, Su Na! Why are you spacing out? Pay for it! We’re going to be late for the party soon.’
‘That’s right, Senior Charlie is in a bad mood, we have to help him shake off the bad luck.’
The two girls urged Su Na to pay, one after the other, and the others present looked on with an expression that suggested it was only natural for her to foot the bill.
Damn it! Even if I’ve transmigrated into a girl, my taste couldn’t possibly be this trash, could it?
After flipping through the subsequent plot points the System had force-fed her, Su Na’s mental state shattered on the spot. Looking at the smirking merchant and the pretentious man before her, her anger flared, and she replied coldly: “Why are you looking at me? If you want it, ask the one who ordered it to pay.”
The moment those words were spoken, the people in the room froze.
“Uh? Miss Su Na?”
The bald merchant blinked, suspecting he had misheard, and couldn’t help but repeat the question.
Su Na spread her hands: “I’m not a fire-attribute mage, so what would I need this for? Besides, the item is in his hands—take it up with him. This is all very bizarre.”
Charlie finally recovered from his brief shock and looked at Su Na with undisguised impatience: “What kind of game are you playing now? Stop it; I’m not in the mood.”
‘Exactly! Su Na, you…’
One of the girls pointed at her, feeling quite incensed, as if she wanted to continue, but Su Na’s expression darkened instantly: “Pointing that finger at me? Do I give you too much face?”
The other girl hurriedly pulled down her friend’s frozen arm, both of them turning pale.
In the past, the original Su Na had always been subservient and cowardly around Charlie, nodding to whatever he said. Over time, these classmates seemed to have forgotten her true status and had taken to bossing her around as well.
But she was also from a high-ranking noble family, just like Charlie. Her father held a fully autonomous territory; not only did he not need to pay taxes, but the kingdom often had to send them subsidies.
Su Na turned to look at the now red-faced Charlie, the corners of her mouth curling into a sneer: “Who’s playing games? Why should I pay for what you buy?”
“You!!!”
Charlie was stunned, sputtering for a long moment without managing to form a coherent sentence.
‘This… I apologize, Miss Su Na. It seems I misunderstood.’
