Chapter 22: Relatives Sacrificed to the Heavens, Boundless Magic Unleashed!

“Su Na! How did you become like this?”

Charlie’s face was a mask of sheer disbelief.

So what if she gave him the cold shoulder? Had he been ignored any less lately? The anger rising within him was merely a leftover illusion of the past Su Na, who had made him believe he held a unique place in her heart.

“You used to be so gentle and lovely. Back at home, we even—”

Levi stepped forward, blocking Charlie’s oily gaze, and barked coldly: “Shut your mouth! Back off!”

Before Charlie could say anything more, Levi locked her icy gaze onto him. A sudden, violent tremor of dread welled up in his heart, forcing his mouth shut instinctively.

In a daze, the noisy crowd around him seemed to blur and recede, and the clamor vanished. The entire space became so silent that he could hear only his own heavy breathing and his racing heartbeat.

Suddenly, Charlie’s eyes widened. At some point, a massive wolf’s head had appeared inches from his face. It was the Shadow Wolf King his father had kept when he was a child. The giant wolf’s head looming over his small frame, its heavy panting, and its golden, vertical pupils made his hair stand on end.

Thump, thump, thump…

The frantic beating of his heart filled his ears, causing a sharp ringing sensation. Every cell in his body screamed of danger, and his limbs began to tremble uncontrollably.

The Fafnir family was one that had built its fortune step by step through the baptism of war, only transitioning to peace in recent years. Naturally, the guardian they provided for their beloved daughter was no gentle soul.

Similarly, Levi’s ancestors were knightly nobles who had earned their status on the front lines. How could a successor raised in such a household be a delicate flower untouched by blood and fire?

Su Na looked at Charlie, who had still not recovered from the oppressive aura, with undisguised disgust.

His ambitions touched the heavens, yet he was narcissistic and arrogant. What a pathetic excuse for a protagonist. Without the world’s protection, he was nothing but a waste.

[Sob, sob, sob… He’s ruined. He’s completely ruined…]

Hearing the System crying in her mind, Su Na was utterly repulsed: “Why don’t you just go with him instead? You’re pretty useless anyway.”

[No, no, no! One host is already out of commission, and life must go on…]

[Master, it’s not too late for me to switch careers! I am very useful! I swear!]

“You’d better be useful, or you can go sit at the same table as the world consciousness. That brainless entity deserves to be targeted by a brainless system like you.”

[Sob…]

It wasn’t that Charlie had become a useless weakling because Su Na abandoned him; he had been a weakling from the very beginning. The author of the original story had simply elevated him to a height he didn’t belong to.

But stories are stories, and reality is reality.

What sane creator would choose such a terrible protagonist to be the child of destiny? At first glance, he seemed impressive, but upon closer inspection, he was just a classic “phoenix man” leech. A single loose thread, and his entire storyline unraveled, leaving him unable to even walk the basic plot.

Had Su Na not been too lazy to play along, any transmigrator with some free time could have dismantled his romance storyline in minutes.

From the moment of his birth, Charlie was destined to have no claim to the Earldom. However, with the assistance of the Fafnir family, he had never suffered. It was only when his support vanished that he finally felt his own insignificance.

Life is like that; it always delivers a harsh blow when you are at your most oblivious.

Rising from the grass roots on the path of magic was a complete joke. How could an ordinary person with talent but no resources compete with nobles? Furthermore, was his so-called talent truly superior to that of noble mages who were selected through rigorous breeding? Was that even possible?

Otherwise, why would a character like the original Su Na be arranged for him? Was it not precisely to make up for his early-stage shortcomings? Even his so-called talent was merely a byproduct of his noble bloodline.

Without Su Na’s support, he lacked his initial foundation, his time to grow, and those chests of magic crystals that an ordinary person couldn’t earn in several lifetimes. He also lacked a clear plan for the future. He would have to take countless detours.

He couldn’t afford materials, he didn’t dare look twice at equipment, and cultivation resources were virtually non-existent.

So, what was the use of talent?

Without these embellishments, he wouldn’t even have the right to contact the majority of the future heroines. Scattered across the land, he wouldn’t even have the travel expenses to get close to them and correct the world line.

Falling in love also required material support. It was true that emotions were genuine, but it was equally true that every moment that moved a heart cost money.

Su Na stroked her smooth chin. Of the two most likely early-stage helpers for the protagonist, Su Na herself was a fake who knew the script, and Yulia was a scheming, bizarre character with more tricks than a pair of loaded dice.

In addition, without Su Na stirring up trouble, the Regent whose attention remained undivided—could pressure the Crown Princess heroine until she cried. She wouldn’t have the spare energy to play out a script of a rich noble girl falling for a poor boy with the male lead.
