Join the ServerMu Cangyun stood in place, watching the white-clad figure at the hospital entrance, her face stunningly beautiful. The boy’s heart beat a little faster.
While his heart raced, the confusion in Mu Cangyun’s mind only grew.
Why was the Saintess here?
And without any guards? At most, that maid standing not far away.
How dared Huan Yue let the Saintess out like this?
With the Saintess so frail, what if something happened?
Mu Cangyun took a deep breath, stepped forward, and quickly moved toward Luoxue.
The closer he got, the denser the crowd became. By the time he squeezed to the front, he saw that Luoxue was already surrounded by layers of people.
Men, women, children, all kinds. Some knelt with hands clasped, muttering prayers; some held up phones, excitedly taking photos; others cradled children or helped the elderly, eyes rimmed with red, as if awaiting final salvation.
Mu Cangyun frowned and asked a middle-aged woman beside him who was wiping away tears:
“Excuse me… did something just happen?”
The woman didn’t turn around, but kept her gaze fixed on Luoxue, her voice choked up: “The Saintess… the Saintess came to the hospital today! She went to the intensive care unit and healed all those patients the doctors had given up on! A miracle, truly a miracle!”
Mu Cangyun’s pupils slightly contracted.
The intensive care unit? Those patients afflicted with alien toxins, tortured by curses, beyond even Tianyuan’s healing?
And the Saintess healed them just like that?
“That’s our Saintess, she really can heal! So when we heard she was at the hospital, everyone came.”
The woman’s eyes were full of reverence.
“Saintess, if only I could get close to her, if only I could talk to her…”
As she spoke, her emotions grew more intense, and she, as if possessed, kept pushing forward.
Mu Cangyun fell silent.
He looked up again at the center of the crowd. Luoxue stood quietly, holding that patched teddy bear, the white blindfold covering her eyes. She faced each person approaching, calm and unhurried, offering that sweet, charming smile equally to all.
Someone knelt, begging for a blessing. She reached out, pressed her palm lightly on their forehead, a flash of golden light, and the person trembled with excitement, thanking her repeatedly.
Someone held a sick child, crying for help. She bent down, touched the child’s brow with a fingertip, and the black aura on the child’s face dissipated visibly, breathing gradually steadied.
Each time, it was instantaneous.
Each time, it drove the crowd around her more fervent.
The faith in their eyes deepened…
Even Mu Cangyun himself felt a jolt of astonishment.
Is this the power of the Saintess? Though she has no combat ability, this healing power… is truly formidable.
And just as Mu Cangyun marveled, his pupils suddenly contracted.
He spotted an abnormal figure.
At that moment, a man with purplish-black skin, ulcerated and reeking, kept shoving through the crowd, struggling toward Luoxue. His face was unrecognizable, lips dark, eyes sunken, breathing rapid and weak.
His grotesque, nauseating appearance terrified those around him, making them flinch away.
At the same time, Bai’s voice echoed in Mu Cangyun’s mind, unusually grave.
[Hey, fool, careful. That man carries the poison of the Worm Mother Empress from the Ten-Thousand Devouring Pit. Don’t touch it. A speck of it means near-certain death for anyone below the Yaogui realm.]
Mu Cangyun’s heart sank.
What the hell?
Poison of the Worm Mother Empress? Shouldn’t someone struck with that be quarantined? Why is he out here? What is he playing at?
This is madness!!
Perhaps because everyone was caught up in the Saintess’s miracle, most people hadn’t even noticed the poisoned man, let alone stopped him.
The Saintess is the incarnation of the goddess on earth, blessed by the goddess; by all accounts, she shouldn’t fear the Worm Mother’s poison.
But,
what if?
Mu Cangyun’s eyes narrowed.
With no time to think further, he immediately sprinted forward.
“Saintess! Be careful!”
Tianyuan spread from inside him, aiding him as he pushed through the crowd, reaching Luoxue’s front just before the man got close, and shielded her.
“Stay away from him! He has the Worm Mother’s poison! Touching it is dangerous!”
His shout startled everyone around, who instinctively retreated.
They stared fearfully at the man covered in poison sores, their dread plain to see.
The Worm Mother? That was one of the Seven Dark Abysses, the main fighting force of the Ten-Thousand Devouring Pit… The poison of such a monster was not something ordinary people could withstand. Once contacted, death would come without even knowing how.
After halting the man, Mu Cangyun turned to Luoxue, about to explain.
“That voice… you’re Mu Cangyun, aren’t you?”
Luoxue spoke softly, a faint smile in her tone.
At the sound of his name, Mu Cangyun froze.
She… remembers me?
The boy’s heart instinctively pounded faster. He opened his mouth to speak, but before he could, Luoxue had already stepped past him and reached out toward the poisoned man.
“Saintess! Wait! No, it’s dangerous!!”
Mu Cangyun instinctively tried to stop her, but Luoxue’s slim hand had already grasped the man’s purplish-black, ulcerated, nauseating hand.
No hesitation, no disgust.
The next moment, Mu Cangyun stood stunned, as he and the crowd watched in shock.
A soft golden light flowed from the Saintess’s hand, like a warm tide, enveloping the man’s entire body in an instant. The black toxin rapidly receded under the golden current, the ulcerated skin healed at a visible speed, the darkened lips regained color, and the sunken eye sockets revived.
Seconds later, the man opened his eyes, staring blankly at his hands, then at Luoxue.
Realizing that the agonizing poison that had plagued him and drained his life was now cured, tears streamed down his face.
“Sa-Saintess… thank you for saving my life! I… I’m too grateful!”
His voice was hoarse, trembling with the relief of surviving.
Luoxue let go, nodded slightly, and said nothing more.
The onlookers, having witnessed this miraculous scene, erupted in even more fervent cheers. Phones clicked in rapid succession; some knelt in worship; others desperately pushed forward, trying to get closer to the Saintess.
“Saintess, please save my son too!”
“Saintess, bless me!”
“Let me through! Let me through! Saintess!”
…
Mu Cangyun stood still, watching Luoxue get engulfed by the ever-thickening crowd, a complex emotion stirring in his chest.
The Worm Mother’s poison, which the Huan Yue medical department had studied for years without finding an antidote. Anyone infected was basically left to die. But the Saintess… just by holding his hand, cured him in seconds?
And she hadn’t shown the slightest hesitation at the sores or stench.
She… truly deserved the title of Saintess.
Even as he admired her, some doubts surfaced in Mu Cangyun’s heart.
“Bai… you said, if the Saintess’s healing power is so great, why wouldn’t Huan Yue let her out to heal people? With her help, wouldn’t far fewer soldiers die…”
The boy asked his guide in a low voice.
Just then, from the edge of the crowd came the sound of orderly footsteps.
“Clear the way! Move aside!”
As the command rang out, a squad of black-clad military police shoved through the crowd, forcing a corridor open. The leading officer, his face grim, strode to Luoxue and bowed respectfully, then raising his head, his tone was reverent but brooked no argument.
“Saintess, it is too dangerous here. Please come back with us.”
Those words had barely faded when the crowd burst into discontent.
“Why? The Saintess hasn’t cured us yet!”
“Exactly!”
“The Saintess is free! Why do you keep her locked up in that iron box?”
…
The officer ignored the crowd’s protests, only gesturing for her to follow. The formidable Tianyuan aura of the guards held the citizens at bay.
Luoxue didn’t refuse.
After showing a flicker of hesitation and worry, she nodded lightly and followed the officer to a waiting car at the curb. Meanwhile, Ningshuang, her maid, had already appeared beside the car, opening the door, waiting respectfully.
And Mu Cangyun?
He could only stand there, watching Luoxue get into the car.
The confusion in his brows only deepened.
Strange.
The officer’s reaction suggested he didn’t want the Saintess to interact with others… Why? When she could save so many people? Why stop her?
…
Meanwhile, inside the car.
The door closed, cutting off the noise outside.
Ningshuang sat opposite Luoxue, watching through the window as the disappointed, even protesting, crowd outside. She frowned slightly.
“Saintess,” she said softly.
“Don’t you dislike this kind of thing? Why come to heal humans…”
Luoxue held the bear, sat quietly in her seat, a slight curve at the corner of her mouth.
“Not really.”
Her voice was light, with an unreadable note.
“The Saintess is always ‘willing’ to help others. It’s just that the Huan Yue government… doesn’t want the Saintess to have contact with the people.”
She gently stroked the bear’s head.
“At least… that’s how it appears to the people.”
Ningshuang was taken aback, then fell silent, turning her gaze to the crowd outside and to the lead figure, that troubled-looking Chosen One, Mu Cangyun. A barely perceptible chill flickered in Ningshuang’s pupils, especially when she noticed the growing fondness in Mu Cangyun’s eyes…
“So you came out… specifically to put on a show?”
“Not entirely. Interacting with people more is fine too.”
“Hmm?”
“It’s a good… opportunity to learn.”
