Just woke up, Luoxue sat quietly at the edge of the bed. Her heterochromatic eyes, a golden-red blend, were half-closed, still not fully awake.
Ningshuang, the maid, stood obediently by the bed, her crimson pupils staring at Luoxue’s eyes with a dazed gaze, a faint blush on her cheeks.
‘The Saintess’s eyes…’
‘Indeed, so beautiful~’
The black-haired girl kept sighing in her heart.
But Luoxue didn’t seem to mind the slightly obsessive stare. She lowered her head, stepped onto the soft carpet with bare feet, and slowly stood up.
Then she walked to the sofa.
The little bear plushie sat there quietly. Its snow-white fur still bore the stitches from a recent mending. As Luoxue approached, its button eyes glinted for a moment in the morning light, as if it felt a little guilty.
“Hmm…”
Tilting her head, Luoxue stretched out two fingers, pinched the bear’s ear, and lifted it off the sofa.
The bear dangled in the air, its plush body swaying gently, like a kitten caught by the scruff.
“Last night…”
Luoxue’s voice was soft, still without emotions.
But as she began to speak, the Saintess’s chamber changed.
The golden sunlight streaming through the window was tinged with a faint layer of blood-red.
The golden threads on the carpet turned into a dark red, like winding bloodstains.
The shadows on the walls distorted, as if something was slowly writhing beneath the wallpaper. Breathing became heavy, and the air carried an indescribable, icy oppression.
The whole space seemed to twist and deform.
For a single breath, Ningshuang’s breathing paused.
‘The Saintess… is she upset?’
At the same time, Luoxue’s heterochromatic eyes narrowed, staring at the bear in her hand.
“Did you have a good time?”
At that moment, the bear’s button eyes stopped moving.
It froze in Luoxue’s hand, motionless, as if it were truly just an ordinary plushie.
Even though it was a lifeless toy, somehow, Ningshuang could feel its emotions, feeling that it was afraid.
“The Lan siblings…” Luoxue spoke in a flat tone, but for the first time, it carried an icy sharpness. “They have good talents and special spiritual weapons. With proper training, they could bring plenty of trouble to the alien god-chosen.”
“And you… you devoured them.”
The bear trembled slightly.
The movement was minute, but Ningshuang saw it clearly.
It wanted to run…
But caught in Luoxue’s hand, it had no ability to escape.
Seeing this, Ningshuang hesitated, bit her lip, and finally couldn’t help speaking: “Saintess… those two people might threaten your safety.”
Luoxue’s gaze shifted to her.
Ningshuang took a deep breath and continued: “Every night, you enter a dormant state to stabilize the power within you. At that time… you are vulnerable. Those siblings wanted to use Asimu to probe you… If they did something while you were dormant… they might…”
“So you approved of them being devoured?”
“Yes.”
Ningshuang lowered her head.
The room was silent for a moment.
Seizing the chance while Luoxue was distracted, the bear broke free from her hand, its plush body arced through the air, and then it scurried behind Ningshuang. It hugged Ningshuang’s calf and poked half its head out from behind, its button eyes cautiously watching Luoxue.
Luoxue made no move to chase it.
She simply stepped forward, her bare feet treading through the blood-colored light, walking step by step toward Ningshuang.
Ningshuang kept her head lowered, saying nothing more. She could feel Luoxue approaching, the faint fragrance of snow lotus growing stronger, the surrounding pressure pressing down…
Ningshuang’s heartbeat quickened with each step.
Just as her nerves were stretched to the limit, a cold finger pressed against her chin and lifted it gently.
The next moment,
Ningshuang’s gaze was forced to meet Luoxue’s gold-red heterochromatic eyes.
“You forgot what I said?”
Luoxue’s voice was gentle, still carrying that saintly purity.
But within that holiness, there was a chill that made one’s spine run cold.
Ningshuang’s throat tightened. She wanted to shake her head, but her neck was stiff as rusted iron.
The space around her seemed frozen, chains binding her body, leaving her unable to move.
All Ningshuang could do was stand still and stare into Luoxue’s eyes.
Those abnormally beautiful eyes were looking at her.
There was no pity, no blame.
Only an indescribable scrutiny.
Like judging whether a tool was still worth keeping.
At that moment, Ningshuang’s heart pounded so fast it seemed about to leap from her chest.
Not because of fear… nor the bizarre stare that threatened to tear her spirit apart from all directions.
But because of excitement…
That gaze, which could break an ordinary person’s mind, instead made Ningshuang tremble with excitement, her body shuddering slightly.
A flush of red rose over her pretty face.
‘Saintess…’
‘She… she is looking at me… looking at me…’
Of course, excitement aside, she could not ignore Luoxue’s words. At that point, her head seemed allowed to move.
So, under Luoxue’s gaze, the black-haired girl nodded slightly. “I… I remember…”
“What did I say?”
“Deal with the intruders… don’t bother with anything else…”
“Then why did you interfere?”
“Be… because…” Ningshuang’s voice rose, but then deflated. “Because they… wanted to harm you, Saintess… to harm you.”
Ningshuang replied softly.
“…”
Luoxue said nothing, simply staring at Ningshuang. Her hollow eyes seemed to be pondering something.
After a few seconds, the white-haired girl casually let go of her hand, seemingly without any intention of punishing Ningshuang.
The terrifying gaze and pressure that had locked onto Ningshuang then dissipated.
“Those two cannot threaten me.” She turned and took a step. “Keeping them alive brings greater benefit.”
“And you…” She glanced sideways at the bear plushie hiding behind Ningshuang. “You were just greedy.”
The bear’s button eyes dimmed for a moment. It retreated fully behind Ningshuang’s leg, leaving only half a fuzzy ear visible.
“Every time you spot a talented soul, you lose control.” Luoxue’s voice went cold. “At this rate, you will cause trouble sooner or later.”
With that, Luoxue turned, walked to the bed, and picked up the white eye patch resting on the pillow.
“If there is a next time… I wouldn’t mind sewing a new one.”
?!
The bear’s body went rigid at those words.
Ningshuang glanced down at the plushie but said nothing further.
On the other side, Luoxue slowly put on the eye patch, covering those mesmerizing heterochromatic eyes. The moment it was on, the blood-red sunlight in the room faded, the shadows on the walls returned to normal, and the air became fresh and warm again.
Everything seemed to revert to its usual state.
“Mu Cangyun…” Luoxue spoke after putting on the patch. “Don’t think about him for now.”
“I still need him to deal with the other god-chosen.”
The calm words were a warning to the bear plushie.
She did not like tools that did not obey. The first time, she would warn, but the second time…
Having regained her usual Saintess demeanor, Luoxue sat gracefully back on the edge of the bed. “So, Ningshuang… what about the other one?”
The black-haired maid smiled in understanding, reached into her pocket, and pulled out a small object, handing it to Luoxue.
It was a palm-sized humanoid doll. Crude fabric, crooked stitches, but a clear outline… curly short hair, wheat-colored skin, a wrinkled training suit, a small round shield at its waist…
If anyone who had participated in the recent blessing ceremony were present, they would have noticed with surprise that this doll looked almost exactly like Asimu, the student who ranked first in the written examination of this blessing ceremony.
“Saintess, the person you requested… ah, no, the doll, is ready.”
