“So weak, so weak. What a pathetic monster~”
A girl in a gorgeous dress blasted a huge crater into the ground, pinning the monster down. Chains made of magic bound its hands tightly.
“Damn it, why is a magical girl here… Let me go if you dare!”
“No way. Be a good person in your next life~”
With that, the girl stomped the monster’s head until it burst. Blood and brains splattered, staining the ground red and dirtying her hand.
She made a disgusted “Ew” sound and waved toward somewhere not far away.
“Lin Yu, hurry up and clean the scene.”
“Coming, coming.”
Lin Yu smiled bitterly and crawled out of cover, carrying cleaning tools and hurrying over.
That’s how it is for useless logistics staff. When a combatant calls, you have to run over obediently.
His job was simple: after a Calamity died, he had to clean up each gruesome scene and handle the aftermath.
‘I’m so envious.’
‘If only I could awaken an ability too.’
No one knew when it started, but monsters called Calamities suddenly appeared in this world. Along with them came humans who had awakened various special abilities. They were called Transcendents.
To fight the Calamities, countries united and formed an organization called the Disaster Incident Administration Bureau, or DIAB for short.
When he was little, he dreamed of growing up to become a Transcendent, charging onto the battlefield to fight Calamities and be admired by people.
For that, he had trained strictly since childhood, developing excellent combat skills and sharp insight.
But some things can’t be achieved through hard work alone.
Lin Yu had not awakened a Transcendent ability. Compared to Transcendents, his stats were too far behind. Even with excellent combat skills, he was no different from an unarmed child before a Calamity.
Now, the only reason he qualified to stand here was as a DIAB logistics worker.
“Don’t just stand there. Come wipe my hand.”
The girl extended her hand toward Lin Yu, turning her face away without looking at him.
“Oh, okay.”
Lin Yu took out a wet wipe, gently held the girl’s soft, boneless hand, and carefully cleaned the bloodstains.
The girl was a head shorter than him, with pink and blue twin-tail hair and a blue combat dress.
Transcendent, Magical Girl Tianxing, often specifically requested Lin Yu alone for her logistics work.
There was still a flush on her fair, pretty face as she asked him in a haughty tone.
“How do you think I performed just now?”
“Very cool!”
“And?”
“Very strong!”
“Hmph, is that all? You should really expand your vocabulary.”
‘And, very cute.’
Lin Yu scratched his head helplessly and muttered inwardly.
He was just logistics. His main job usually didn’t require praising people, and you were the only one who chased people around demanding compliments.
“Then I’ll be going. I’ll leave the cleanup to you. See you next time.”
“Leave it to me.”
Tianxing unhurriedly withdrew her small hand, magic surging around her, and vanished from the spot in a flash of light.
After Tianxing left, Lin Yu cleaned the ground with practiced ease, carefully searched the Calamity’s belongings, cut off the valuable parts with a knife, and injected a syringe of aggregation agent into the Calamity’s body.
That way, the Calamity’s corpse would condense into an energy crystal.
Next, he used professional repair tools to restore the surrounding ground, and finally placed the obtained items into sealed bags.
There were four sharp fangs, two of the sharpest claws, a pair of eyes, and one energy crystal.
“Holy crap, I found money again?”
After cleaning the scene, Lin Yu was about to leave when he picked up five hundred yuan from the ground and broke into a happy smile.
Every time he did cleanup work for Tianxing, he somehow found money. It made him wonder if his luck had turned.
After packing up, Lin Yu drove to his front door. It was still early. The company wasn’t even open yet.
Now, he was responsible for safekeeping these Calamity-related items, then delivering them intact to the company later.
“You’re going to work this early today?”
A sweet female voice sounded. Lin Yu looked over. It was his neighbor, also his childhood friend, named Luo Li.
She had cascade-like lead-black long hair, was a head shorter than him, and had soft, delicate features. Just looking at her made one feel warm.
“Yeah, logistics is just that tough. Oh right, I found five hundred yuan again today! Want me to treat you to dinner tonight?”
Luo Li turned away, no longer looking at Lin Yu, and glanced at her hand with a complicated expression. A blush appeared on her face, and the corner of her mouth lifted slightly.
“We’ll talk tonight. I’m going to school first. Senior year is stressful, so I need to get to class early. I won’t chat with you.”
“All right. Be safe on the road.”
After waving goodbye to Luo Li, Lin Yu returned home.
“I’m back… Already went to school?”
An empty bowl sat on the dining table. It was the breakfast Lin Yu had prepared for his little sister, Bai Tao. Next to the bowl was a small note she had left: “Thank you, big brother~ Breakfast was delicious~”
Lin Yu cleaned up the table and went back to his bedroom. He checked the time.
It was 6:30 in the morning. The company wouldn’t open until 8:00. There was still time to rest.
So he drew the curtains, pulled an iron box out from under the bed, and tossed in an old watch he had just found at the scene.
The iron box contained quite a few trophies, all things Lin Yu had found while cleaning scenes: old phones, a broken pistol, buttons, daggers, and so on.
“When I was a kid, I dreamed of awakening a superpower and beating enemies into trash. Turns out I became the trash collector. Heh.”
Lin Yu laughed at himself and took out the old phone from the box.
He had found it during his last cleanup job. He figured he could sell it on a second-hand platform for some extra cash.
So he turned on the phone, planning to check whether all its functions still worked. Only if it worked normally could he get a good price.
After casually swiping the screen a few times, Lin Yu noticed a strange app.
“What’s this? Possession Girl?”
He muttered curiously and tapped it.
The moment he touched the icon, the scene around him changed abruptly.
Lin Yu felt his consciousness seem to enter a void. Everything around him was pitch black. He couldn’t see anything.
“What’s going on? Is this virtual reality? But I’m not wearing a brain-computer interface.”
Then the picture gradually appeared. Lin Yu saw a girl.
She had long silver-white hair, a petite figure around one and a half meters tall, and a plain white dress. She inspired pity.
Her doll-like delicate face had large, exquisite eyes that now glowed blood red. A pair of small fangs hid in her mouth.
“Hurry up and burn her! She’s a vampire. Be careful she doesn’t bite you.”
‘I, I wouldn’t bite anyone!’
‘These hateful humans, the first thing they say is they’ll burn me… Wuwu, can anyone help me?’
The vampire girl hugged her head, hiding behind wooden crates piled in an alley, her pretty face full of panic.
