“Die!”
Two clear, cold white lights flashed and then vanished.
The Erosion Organism’s head disappeared from its body, and it stopped moving.
Immediately after, it turned into countless specks of starlight and dissipated.
“First one down!”
With a sigh of relief, Canary jumped down from the gradually disappearing corpse and came to Ayse’s side.
Behind them were the staff members of the “defensive line” who had not had time to evacuate.
They had been cornered and had no way to escape.
That was when Canary and Ayse arrived and saved them.
At this moment, they were all staring blankly at the young girls before them, still not having come back to their senses.
“Leave this to us. You all evacuate quickly.”
The two of them exchanged a smile and said to the people.
…
After Canary and Ayse worked together to defeat the largest Erosion Organism, they immediately turned and split up, each heading to other locations for reinforcement.
The Erosion disaster that appeared this time was only of C to B level.
This level posed no threat to them, who had nearly a year of experience as Agents.
They dealt with each one cleanly and efficiently.
The sound of the evacuation alarm came from a distance.
At this moment, Canary had just dealt with the last Erosion Organism in her sight.
The corpse of the fallen Erosion Organism beside her was gradually turning into specks of light.
She glanced around and then opened her earpiece to contact Ayse.
“Ayse, how are things on your end?”
“I’ve cleared the three on my side. I’m contacting the person in charge here to see if there are any missed targets…”
“Are you injured?”
“I’m fine. What about you, are you hurt?”
“No, it was a piece of cake on my side. Oh, right, there were actually five on my side. I don’t know if I miscounted before, but anyway, I took care of them as well.”
“Eh? We missed two?”
Ayse’s voice sounded a little surprised.
They had already gathered intelligence on the Erosion Organisms here before landing.
At that time, they had counted seven Erosion Organisms.
Apart from the one they banished together, which was relatively large, the others were smaller individuals.
It was just right for each of them to handle three, acting separately.
But there were five on Canary’s side.
Of course, sometimes an Agent might miss an inconspicuous target due to an obstructed view, but missing two was very rare.
This was an error of 22.22%, which was enough to interfere with decision-making.
“Anyway, I’ve finished cleaning up this side. Let’s meet at the building next to the landing point and search again for any missed ones.”
“Okay! Then please be careful… The ‘defensive line’ is part of the Boundary Monument system. It’s one thing for Erosion Organisms to appear in the urban area, but for them to appear directly from inside the ‘defensive line,’ I’m worried that something else might happen.”
“Don’t worry. See you later then.”
After finishing the communication through the earpiece, Canary glanced around again and ran quickly towards the agreed-upon location.
Canary and Ayse had joined the organization and became Agents at the same time.
As Agents, they were of similar age, and their combat experience was comparable, so they quickly became friends.
Actually, in terms of combat power alone, Canary was slightly superior, but she had a more carefree personality and could be a bit reckless at times.
In this regard, Ayse was a good moderator.
Agents didn’t have a “group” or “squad” system.
For example, although Ephnel often acted with Fifina, this didn’t mean that Ephnel and Fifina were Agents of the same team.
Ephnel also often acted alone or went on missions with other Agents, and Fifina also had times when she went on missions alone or assisted others.
In other words, the choice of teammates for an Agent’s mission was not strictly fixed.
The organization would make appropriate adjustments based on the positioning of each Agent and the difficulty of the mission.
But Canary and Ayse were a bit special—they always acted together.
To others, they were “of the same group.”
The reason for this was naturally related to the tacit understanding they had developed over a long period of time.
They had a set of coordinated attack methods that allowed their combined attacks to exert an advantage greater than 1+1=2, greatly increasing their upper limits.
Therefore, the organization had intentionally or unintentionally always had them act together.
As Canary was running quickly on the empty driveway, suddenly, a dark shadow flashed in the corner of her vision.
“Hmm?”
Canary let out a soft sound, stopped in her tracks, took a step back, and looked in the direction where she had seen the dark shadow.
It was an L-shaped building.
Logically, it should be empty now, but although it was only for a moment, Canary was very sure that a figure had appeared there just now.
She stared intently, and sure enough, she saw a figure appear from the side, seemingly preparing to leave.
“Hey! Stop!”
Canary took out her weapon and shouted at the figure.
The figure immediately stopped.
She stared at the person’s back and walked towards them.
“Raise your hands and turn around.”
She commanded.
The figure paused, then turned around trembling.
It was a man.
His white work uniform was dirty, with bloodstains on the cuffs and waist.
An employee ID card was hanging on his chest.
Canary glanced at him and frowned slightly.
“Are you injured? Are you alright?”
“N-No… it’s not a serious injury…”
The man seemed to be in some pain and gently covered his waist.
Canary’s gaze fell on the man’s work card, and she asked suspiciously, “Why didn’t you go to the shelter?”
“I…”
The man stared straight at Canary, making her very uncomfortable.
He paused for a moment, then began to explain, “I was being chased by an Erosion Organism, so I was hiding here just now…”
“An Erosion Organism?”
Canary raised her eyebrows slightly.
The location where Erosion Organisms appeared was not fixed.
Sometimes, some people were very unlucky, and after a disaster occurred, an Erosion Organism would appear nearby, cutting off their path to the shelter.
At that time, they could only do their best to save themselves and hide separately.
But even if the Erosion Organisms couldn’t see them, they could still identify the location of those who were hiding through their unique methods.
In other words, simply finding a place to hide was just an inferior strategy to delay death.
They often had to change their hiding spots from time to time to buy themselves more time.
As long as they could wait for the Agents to arrive, they could be saved.
Compared to running around aimlessly on the streets, the chances of being saved by hiding and waiting for rescue were actually much higher.
So, in a disaster, many people who didn’t have time to evacuate would choose to hide temporarily.
In missions, these people were one of the key rescue targets.
At this point, Canary put away her weapon.
“Don’t worry, I’m an Agent. I’ve already dealt with all of them.”
Canary sighed in relief, glanced around, and said comfortingly, “You’re safe now. You’re injured, so go to the shelter quickly.”
