Chapter 131: The Sixth (2)

The invisible force—clearly telekinesis—still pressed heavily on Ion’s body. Yeo-on tilted his head.

“You’re low on mana. Where’s your Sansevieria? If it were here, you’d have shaken off my skill easily.”

“…”

“Sorry, hyung. I’ll ease up a bit.”

Breathing became easier.

Haa, haa. Ion closed his eyes, inhaled deeply, exhaled.

Yeo-on waited patiently for Ion to catch his breath.

After a moment, Ion asked,

“How are you here… did you side with Unimbara?”

“Temporary deal. Butterfly Mask wanted someone who was supposed to die to die properly; I wanted to show you the memoir.”

Someone supposed to die.

Ion’s gaze shifted to the motionless Sae-mi.

“You hated fighting.”

“Hyung. Do you know why I avoided conflict?”

“Because deciding a winner was bothersome.”

“Right. The orphans’ skills were roughly equal—except yours. Even if I had the edge, both sides would have to go all out. I found situations requiring full effort bothersome. But now…”

Yeo-on’s lips curved sideways—a gloomy smile.

“Now I have a skill that lets me overwhelm… no need to bother anymore.”

“Really… telekinesis skill?”

“Yes, hyung. Real telekinesis.”

Awakeners gain skills related to fields they were interested in.

And Dam Yeo-on had been interested in overwhelming victories.

If he couldn’t dominate completely, he’d rather not fight and concede.

In the end, he obtained an overwhelmingly dominant skill.

“You read the memoir from another Breeder…?”

“…Yeah. I did. Why did you want to show it to me?”

“Because you’re in it, hyung.”

“…What?”

Ion’s eyes shook violently.

He had carefully scanned the memoir under pressure—his name wasn’t there.

Ion frowned; Yeo-on raised a finger. The memoir floated, pages flipped, stopping with the torn page in between.

[51.01.03 Celestial Lost Child Returns Home]

“That’s you, hyung. You’re the missing celestial child.”

Ion read the line too. But he hadn’t thought it was about him.

“I don’t know how you knew I have celestial blood, but it’s not me.”

“Not you? How can you be sure?”

“The lost child went missing 18 years ago—as a newborn.”

“…”

“I’m twenty. I wasn’t a newborn 18 years ago.”

Ion stared firmly into the gleaming ash-gray eyes.

“It’s not me.”

He couldn’t give this up.

I’m an adult!

I can’t be the real youngest among the orphans.

Yeo-on blinked, as if he hadn’t expected that answer, then let out a short “haha…”

“Yes, hyung. My mistake. You’re twenty.”

Yeo-on glanced at collapsed Sae-mi, completely uninterested, and stepped closer. Tall—he loomed over Ion.

“I thought the lost child was you… I really wanted to show you. Proof you’re not trash. You appear in Breeder’s memoir—a valuable character.”

“…”

“The other hyungs and noonas… and me too. We weren’t trash. I was so shocked seeing the memoir… I just wanted to show you.”

Yeo-on smiled brightly.

Clouds cleverly blocked moonlight, making his face look even more insane.

Ion now understood why Sa-on got chills from Yeo-on.

Just to show the memoir, he allied with Unimbara and harmed Sae-mi?

Saying that aloud would only upgrade Yeo-on from insane to truly insane.

Ion calmed his racing heart.

“Thanks.”

He spoke soothingly.

“When and how did you see the memoir?”

“Recently. Age showed it to me directly. Probably to boost my self-esteem. I didn’t want to get involved in world affairs—just trash. They wanted to persuade me.”

“Are you… fully on their side now?”

“No. Just temporary cooperation for need… I’m not with Unimbara, System Age, or Butterfly Mask. My goal’s achieved—no more business with them.”

“Then… come with us. We won’t hold you accountable for what you did.”

Yeo-on glanced at collapsed Sae-mi again. Utter indifference.

Ion continued,

“You know—we’re a team now. Abuse faction and preservation faction split, but now we’re all together. So…”

“Hyung, you don’t trust me, right?”

“…”

“You don’t believe I’m not with Unimbara. Planning to lure me, subdue me, take me to Horizon for interrogation?”

Correct.

Fifteen years observing Yeo-on—he’d sympathize with the silver entity’s words.

A society without conflict, made only of those who love and protect the Earth… Wouldn’t that be paradise?

Not just sympathize—he’d fully endorse it.

“Sad you distrust me, hyung.”

“Stop the bullshit.”

Ion shook off the invisible force and stood. FWOOSH—flame sword ignited. Vines that had stopped began growing again.

Earlier he was low on mana and ambushed—couldn’t perform properly. Not now.

I can do this.

Mana recovered via Ivy during conversation; focus at peak. Ion’s magic began overpowering Yeo-on’s skill.

Yeo-on put hands in pockets and stepped back.

Conversely, the invisible pressure intensified.

RUMBLE!

Vines overcame the pressure and shot high. SWISH! Dozens of vines fired at Yeo-on. They stopped inches from him.

A silent, fierce tug-of-war between their powers followed.

To win, even the strength to speak had to be devoted entirely to suppressing the opponent.

After a long struggle, Yeo-on spoke first.

“Thought maybe… but no, impossible after all.”

Gloomy, powerless tone.

“Fighting you is bothersome… can’t overwhelm you. See you later, hyung.”

Yeo-on’s body floated upward.

“Where do you think you’re going?”

Ion immediately used flight magic.

“Ah, right. I’ll prove I’m not with Unimbara right now.”

Yeo-on extended an arm toward the warehouse and snapped his fingers.

SNAP!

BOOM!

A massive explosion like a missile strike.

Ion glanced briefly—when he turned back, Yeo-on was gone.

Ion didn’t chase.

As Yeo-on said—couldn’t overwhelm.

He wanted to check the warehouse, but went to Sae-mi first.

She was supposed to die today—wouldn’t have come unprepared.

Sae-mi had made potions with <Bee Nectar> that went beyond recovery to revival. Ion poured one into her mouth.

Confirmed breathing returned, spread his robe on the ground. Snow everywhere—so covered her with vines, lit a fire nearby.

Then flew quickly to the warehouse.

The warehouse was completely collapsed. A giant sinkhole—looked missile-bombed.

Far away, Ion spotted Jin Seong-ha wiping dust from his face with his forearm. His expression unusually stiff.

“Hunter Jin Seong-ha!”

Ion flew over instantly.

“You okay? Injuries?”

“You…”

Jin Seong-ha scanned Ion head to toe; his face softened slightly.

“Too much happened. I’m exhausted, really.”

“Yes…?”

Seeing Ion’s confused face, Jin Seong-ha laughed.

“Don’t get it? Leader, get on the internet.”

“You should get off the internet.”

Ion sighed. His tense expression finally relaxed.

The Unimbara warehouse explosion made big news.

Midnight blast collapsed the warehouse; landslide alert evacuated nearby villages. Terrified residents all night—Unimbara promised compensation.

Articles blamed an unexpected issue with an item traded with another guild—pushing fault elsewhere.

All deaths were awakeners: 13 Unimbara guild members, 6 mercenaries. Over a hundred injured.

Low death count for a reason.

Most were awakeners—tough bodies.

But also…

“Let’s get out before crowds come.” “Can’t leave them like this. Leader, you know CPR? If not, at least potion.”

Ion wanted to escape immediately—Jin Seong-ha jumped in for emergency aid.

Ion called Ade Tuna to handle Sae-mi, then joined Jin Seong-ha in first aid.

They saved over a dozen who would’ve died before rescue arrived—and prevented the landslide.

No sign of Butterfly Mask’s Kim Young among casualties.

Would be weirder if he was there.

With that skill, he’d easily escape collapse.

They worked until rescue teams arrived.

“Tough work. Let’s go to my place and rest.”

“No… I have my own home.”

“Still too soon for your place. Walls too high.”

Exhausted, Ion returned to his studio, hugged Sanse, and fell asleep.

Next day.

Ion pressed tired eyes and contacted Da-on.

The communication item was one-use—he’d saved it, but after meeting Yeo-on, time to use it.

He needed to tell Sa-on too, but wanted Da-on first.

Someone with a gentle perspective.

  • Ugh… what is it, Ion? Ugh…

“…Why do you sound like that?”

  • Yesterday… drank crates with Haidian…

“You knew Haidian’s a heavyweight.”

  • Not heavyweight… ha, more like alcoholic-saurus… ugh.

Da-on raked hair from her haggard face.

  • Sorry. Bad timing… so what’s up?

“I met Dam Yeo-on.”

Ion briefly explained yesterday.

Da-on instantly sobered.

Seeing her serious face, Ion asked,

“What do you think? Did Dam Yeo-on… side with System Age?”

That’s why he contacted Da-on.

Am I too suspicious, or do others think the same?

Sa-on or Se-on would say yes without hesitation.

Dam Yeo-on is our enemy.

Ion needed… a kinder view.

  • Ion.

Da-on’s brow furrowed.

  • …In my opinion too.

She struggled to finish.

She knew why Ion used the one-use item.

Five unspoken words—Ion understood what Da-on meant.

“I know. I get what you’re trying to say, Dam Da-on.”

The sixth orphan had returned as an enemy.
