Chapter 18: The Girl in the Death Certificate

“Okay, thank you, Auntie.”

– I also want to see what Xinxin looks like.

– Sigh, don’t blame the streamer!

– Exactly, exactly.

The streamer has already done everything she could.

– One durian is fifty yuan.

Even with the 70/30 split according to the contract, she gets less than fifty.

What more do you want?

– For viewers who are so generous with other people’s money, I suggest you finish elementary school first.

– …

– She can teach others how to open the yin eye, so why can’t she help this mother?

– It’s just a small effort.

Unbelievable.

Yet throughout it all, Qianyang remained as unruffled as ever.

She didn’t plan to say anything.

First, the timing wasn’t right.

Second, some things were best uncovered by the people involved themselves.

No one else had the right to interfere.

In the camera frame, Qin Yizhen took out a photo album from a drawer under the counter.

She then returned to the table and handed the album to Cangcang.

“Thank you.”

Cangcang took the album and opened it.

The photos on the first page were all of the elderly couple and Qin Yizhen and her husband.

“Xinxin’s photos are in the back,” Qin Yizhen reminded.

Just then, Cangcang noticed the photo in the bottom left corner of the first page.

An elderly woman was holding a baby about half a year old, who had a very visible beauty mark between its eyebrows.

“Is this Xinxin as a baby?

So cute,” Cangcang remarked.

Qin Yizhen shook her head slightly.

“That’s not Xinxin.”

Cangcang was surprised.

“Not Xinxin?

But she has the exact same beauty mark between her eyebrows as Xinxin.”

Qin Yizhen’s expression faltered for a moment, then she explained, “She isn’t Xinxin.

She’s Xinxin’s younger sister, Yueyue.”

Cangcang didn’t think much of it.

She nodded and murmured, “Both sisters have that beauty mark.”

Qin Yizhen’s hands, resting on her knees, suddenly curled up.

Her pupils dilated sharply as she stared at Cangcang in disbelief.

Cangcang turned to the second page.

Suddenly, Qin Yizhen grabbed her hand, gripping it tightly.

“Auntie, what’s wrong?”

Cangcang asked, confused.

Qin Yizhen’s eyes filled with tears, her lips trembling.

“The Xinxin you saw… did she have a mole between her eyebrows?”

Cangcang, without suspicion, nodded.

“Yes.

Following the master’s instructions, I saw her in a dream.

She was about sixteen or seventeen, wearing a school uniform, with shoulder-length hair, and a very pretty beauty mark between her eyebrows.”

Qin Yizhen’s legs went weak, and she nearly collapsed onto the floor.

The tears she had barely managed to stop fell again.

“That wasn’t Xinxin… that wasn’t Xinxin…”

“What?”

Cangcang froze as well.

– ???

– Holy shit?!!!

– Oh my god!!!

– Huh??????????

– Oh no!!!

– I have goosebumps!!!

– Auntie’s missing daughter is called Xinxin.

The ghost sister beside her is actually Yueyue?

– …

Qin Yizhen’s tears fell silently.

“Yueyue came back?

Yueyue… does she still remember her sister?”

As if overwhelmed by grief, Qin Yizhen covered her face with both hands and burst into loud sobs.

“Yueyue… Yueyue… Mom is sorry…”

“Even after you’re gone, you’re still worried about your sister…”

Cangcang panicked, at a complete loss.

“Auntie, Yueyue… what happened to Yueyue…”

Yueyue wasn’t Qin Yizhen’s lost daughter?

Then why had she been at the orphanage?

Why did she so desperately want to return to her parents?

– Oh my god…

– I have a bold idea.

– My heavens!

I think I know!

– I understand!

I understand why the streamer said there was no need to say more!

– AHHHHHHH!

I get it too!

– …

Just then, Qianyang, who had been silent for a long time, finally spoke.

“Cangcang, the photo in the top left corner of the second page of the album is the one I saw on the missing person notice.

The half that was blurred.”

Listening to her, Cangcang numbly looked down at the album.

In the top left corner of the second page was a photo of three people together.

Qin Yizhen sat on a sofa, holding a one-year-old child in her arms.

The child had an extremely clear beauty mark between its eyebrows.

But in the other half of the photo on the missing person notice, the half that had been blurred, there was also a three-year-old little girl sitting beside Qin Yizhen.

Cangcang was completely frozen, holding the album motionless until her hands began to tremble.

– Holy shit!

– Isn’t that the girl on the orphanage’s death certificate!

– Cangcang said that was her photo at age five…

– AHHHHHHHHH I’m going crazy!

– Oh my god… the ghost sister didn’t want to go home so much as…

– It wasn’t Cangcang taking the ghost sister home.

It was the ghost sister bringing Cangcang home?

– Sob sob, I’m collapsing.

Crying like a dog on the subway.

– My dad asked if he was about to die, seeing me cry so sadly.

– …

– How can something like this happen in this world!!

– Holy shit!!!

Auntie must have seen Cangcang’s death certificate five years ago!

– Did the ghost sister go to the orphanage with her parents to look for her sister back then?

– Cangcang just turned twenty this year!!!!

Yang Mao said, stunned, “Cangcang… is Auntie Qin’s lost daughter?”

Qianyang nodded.

“Yes.”

Qin Yizhen was consumed by grief, as if she could no longer face it.

“Xinxin… Yueyue… Mom is sorry… sorry…”

“Take me with you… take Mom with you…”

“I really… can’t go on…”

– Xinxin missing, Yueyue gone…

– How did Auntie manage to hold on?

– Misfortunes never come singly.

– Tears breaking.

– …

Cangcang trembled uncontrollably.

A few tears fell onto the album.

“Cangcang, she has something to say to Auntie,” Qianyang said.

Cangcang nodded numbly.

Her mind was too chaotic to process the situation.

“Okay…” Cangcang responded.

“Mom.”

Qianyang relayed the ghost sister’s words.

“Mom…” Cangcang mechanically repeated Qianyang’s words.

“I brought big sister home.”

Cangcang’s voice faltered, then began to tremble.

“I brought… big sister… home.”
