Chapter 19 Part 2: The Case of the Suspicious Neck Injury

Like any other university, Jing University’s most traditional activity was military training.

Lin Chuji and Xie Yan were in different departments, so naturally they were separated.

When they found their respective classes on the training ground, they discovered they were only about twenty meters apart—close enough to greet each other with a glance.

The August weather was truly hot.

After a full day of training, Lin Chuji’s mouth was dry.

He thought to himself that he must have drunk too much last night—the hangover hadn’t fully passed.

Fake alcohol was dangerous.

Unfortunately, the architecture department’s drill instructor was very strict.

The neighboring classes had been dismissed one by one, but because someone moved, he added another ten minutes of standing time.

Lin Chuji stood at attention, bored out of his mind.

He squinted and aimlessly counted the pearls on the hair clip of the girl in front of him to pass the time, when a very fragmented memory suddenly flashed through his mind.

Xie Yan, shirtless, walking slowly toward him, and then he himself pressing his cheek against him, hugging him.

His muscles were very solid, his skin hot—the feeling slowly overlapped with the scorching sun beating down on him now, making his whole body feel burning hot.

Lin Chuji shuddered.

What the hell?

I’m going crazy.

I must be dizzy from standing too long to imagine such a terrifying scene.

“Hey, you.

Stand still,” the instructor said, looking in his direction.

“Sorry,” Lin Chuji said, being called out, his face instantly turning bright red, awkward and uneasy.

Out of the corner of his eye, he saw that the neighboring class had been dismissed, and Xie Yan stood among the crowd, looking over with a light, indifferent gaze.

Probably startled by the scene his mind had conjured, Lin Chuji found it hard to look directly at Xie Yan at that moment.

He slightly turned his head and hurriedly avoided his gaze.

“This student, still moving?”

The instructor was equally strict with everyone.

“Don’t think that because you’re the top scorers from your provinces you can ignore the rules.

At attention means at attention.

No head movement.

No leg trembling.

If this student can’t learn, come stand at the front of the line, and I’ll teach you.”

The surrounding students were silent as cicadas in winter, not daring to act up.

But people from other departments who had already been dismissed and were resting were starting to look over.

Lin Chuji wanted to hang himself from the nearest tree.

He used all his strength to pose in the best possible at-attention stance and squeezed out from between his lips, “Sorry, Instructor.

I promise I won’t move again.”

The instructor looked at him quite satisfied, changed his expression, and praised, “Not bad.

Very straight.

Very soldier-like.

Come, stand at the front and demonstrate for everyone.”

Lin Chuji: ?????

No matter what, I have to go to the front.

Are you deliberately setting me up?

Standing nearby, Xie Yan couldn’t help laughing out loud.

He almost suspected that Lin Chuji had some kind of social death buff.

Watching him, face bright red, step out of line, walk to the front under everyone’s gaze, stand at attention—every part of his body radiated pain and discomfort.

He really did look pitiful.

The sun had dried his lips to the point of looking dehydrated.

He lowered his head and sent a message to Shen Yinan.

[Crab Boss]: Bring two bottles of water when you come.

“The architecture department is such a miserable major, yet it has a guy this gorgeous.”

“Right.

The construction industry is so tough.

A fair-skinned, handsome guy like him might as well debut as an idol.”

Two girls nearby were whispering.

“His dream is even more blue-collar: driving an excavator.”

Shen Yinan appeared out of nowhere, holding last night’s rose bouquet in one hand and the gift bag in the other, not forgetting to chime in.

“Bro, a day apart feels like three years,” Shen Yibei enunciated.

Xie Yan turned to look at him suspiciously.

“You guys finished early?”

Shen Yinan said carelessly, “Our instructor is a pushover.

Let us go early.

Here, I remembered to bring this for you.

And the water you wanted.

I’m so thoughtful, so meticulous, so thorough.

Didn’t need you to remind me.”

“Thanks, but what’s with shoving a bouquet of roses at me in public?”

Xie Yan didn’t take it, just laughed lazily, teasing, “If people mistakenly think I’m gay and it interferes with me finding a partner in the future, will you take responsibility?”

The two girls nearby glanced at him shyly.

Shen Yinan, who had endured stares all the way here without feeling embarrassed, found it amusing.

“You can pretend it’s from your partner.

Stop looking.

The person who gave the flowers is pretty good.”

They had joked around before, and Xie Yan had occasionally listened without taking it seriously.

But today was different—or rather, after last night.

Xie Yan said seriously, “Don’t joke like that anymore.

It’s not appropriate.

I’m straight.

And don’t ruin Xiao Lin’s chances of finding a partner by dragging his reputation down.”

“Is your reputation that bad that it would drag him down?

What happened last night to make you suddenly so serious?”

Shen Yinan had keenly sniffed out something off.

Xie Yan wanted to say something but hesitated.

His gaze fell on the light-colored band-aid on Lin Chuji’s neck, feeling inexplicably guilty.

Actually, when he thought about it carefully, nothing much had happened, right?

It was all just accidental.

It wouldn’t hurt to confess.

But why, whether facing Lin Chuji or Shen Yinan, did he find it so hard to speak?

It must be because Lin Chuji was gay, which made the act seem really ambiguous.

If he had bitten Shen Yinan instead… never mind, he couldn’t do it.

“Nothing.

He has good drinking manners.

Not loud, not disruptive,” Xie Yan said, skirting the issue.

He looked at Lin Chuji, his throat feeling dry.

Seeing his class finally dismissed, he nudged Shen Yinan’s arm and reminded him, “Give him the water.”

Shen Yinan looked at him suspiciously.

Straight guy, you’d better be straight.

Can’t wait even a second, huh?

He raised the water in his hand and waved, calling out directly, “Lin Chuji, come here.

Have some water.”

Lin Chuji smiled at him, walked over slowly, and took the water.

“Thanks.

You guys finished so early.”

Having been in the sun for a long time, his hair was slightly damp with sweat, even the tip of his nose glistening.

“Looks like your hangover is gone,” Shen Yinan said with a smile.

“I’ve kind of blacked out.

Don’t remember much,” Lin Chuji answered truthfully.

“Hey, have you seen that post on the forum?

We don’t know which department it’s from.

So perverted.”

“The one about biting a roommate’s neck?

That has to be from a double room.

If it were a six-person room, they wouldn’t be able to pull off such a fancy move.”

The two girls behind them were still gossiping without restraint.

The smile vanished from Xie Yan’s face.

He noticed Lin Chuji slightly tilt his head, as if listening.

“What post?

Let me see?”

Shen Yinan didn’t even know them but chimed in anyway.

“Find it yourself.

It’s today’s hot topic.

Anonymous.

Don’t know who it is…” the person answered.

The Shen brothers couldn’t miss an opportunity like this.

They both took out their phones in sync.

Xie Yan reached out to stop them, alarm bells ringing, and hurriedly said, “No, you two are too bored.

Who looks at forums these days?

Who knows if it’s real or made up?”

But Shen Yibei had already quickly found the original post.

“Looking won’t hurt.”

“What does it say?”

Lin Chuji craned his neck curiously, his gaze falling on Shen Yibei’s screen.

He scrolled quickly, the title flashing by, but Lin Chuji only saw two comments.

[Anyone still remember that post about being tied up by a roommate?

Can pair up with this one as a CP.]

[Lol, I remember that one too, Visitor 7217.

Even your IDs are so compatible.]

Visitor 7217—that seemed to be his own unverified visitor ID from last time.

How, after more than a month, had this topic been dug up again?

Back when he posted, he never imagined he would meet these people at the same university and open this forum again.

Lin Chuji’s face changed, and his back broke out in layers of sweat.

Biting a neck, tying a wrist—they did sound similar, easy to associate.

But this time, the poster really wasn’t him!!!

What idiot had made the same mistake as him and hadn’t deleted the post, waiting to be exposed?

Lin Chuji also reached out to block the screen, and said quietly, guiltily, “Never mind.

It’s someone else’s privacy.

It’s not really appropriate for us to discuss it here.”

“You two today… are really weird,” Shen Yinan said, squinting, looking back and forth between them.

“I also sense an awkward, repulsive, eager-to-hide-something aura,” Shen Yibei also sniffed out the same vibe.

Xie Yan: “Absolutely not.”

Lin Chuji: “Of course not.”

They spoke at the same time but said different words, yet their denials were essentially the same.

Xie Yan usually acted so openly that it was rare for him to be this evasive.

It was so uncomfortable he felt he might burst—he really had to get it off his chest.

He leaned close to the person involved and whispered, “Come over here for a second.

I have something to confess.”

Lin Chuji also felt it would be better to explain this to him sooner rather than having it be embarrassing again later, so he said, “I also have something to let you know.”

“Then let’s go,” Xie Yan tilted his head.

“Okay… then… we’ll… take off…”

Lin Chuji said awkwardly to Shen Yinan.

A breeze blew.

Probably because sweat had made it unsticky, Xie Yan watched helplessly as the band-aid on Lin Chuji’s neck fell halfway off, revealing a small, dark, ambiguous hickey—or rather, bite mark.

He was so fair that the red mark stood out glaringly.

Shen Yibei was still looking down at the gossip, laughing as he relayed, “Holy crap, let me tell you, this post is really explosive.

This guy said his roommate, drunk, hugged him and wouldn’t let go, and to stop him from moving, he bit his neck.

Hilarious.

Still acting.

‘Straight guy pretending to be gay,’ my ass.

This is clearly mutual consent sneaking around.”

Xie Yan: “…….”

Xie Yan had no time to listen carefully.

All his attention was on that dangling, half-fallen band-aid.

He wanted to reach out and stick it back on, but under everyone’s gaze, the move would be too obvious.

So he just cleared his throat softly, wanting to say something but stopping.

“Holy crap, I just saw the latest comment—someone claims to have guessed who the OP and his roommate are.

This person, posting anonymously, said he’s right on the training ground and just saw a handsome freshman from the architecture department with a neck…”

Shen Yibei trailed off, then laughed and looked up.

“Hey, architecture department, Lin Chuji, that’s your department…”

His gaze froze.

Architecture department, handsome guy, neck, bite mark.

Perfectly matched the person in front of him.

“In our department?

Who?”

Lin Chuji also felt a chill on his neck.

He raised his hand to touch it, his fingers moving, and completely rubbed off the band-aid.

Xie Yan reached out to pull his collar, couldn’t block it, and wanted to just cover it with his palm.

“You…”

Lin Chuji, confused, dodged and looked up at him.

“What’s wrong?

Didn’t I just bump it on the doorframe?

It’s just a small scratch.

No need to be so nervous.”

And that bite mark was now exposed for all to see on his fair neck.

The moment Lin Chuji’s voice fell, he felt gazes like spotlights turning toward him.

He felt watched, scrutinized. “Why… are they looking at me?” he asked Xie Yan quietly.

“Because you’re good-looking,” Xie Yan said, his heart ashen.

Shen Yibei was also deeply shaken.

For a moment, he didn’t know what to say.

He mechanically refreshed, read another comment, then looked up at the two people involved and relayed the bad news.

“They… they said these two roommates are suspected to be LCJ from the architecture department and XY from the medical school.”

He gave two awkward laughs, trying to backtrack.

“There were so many people drinking last night, and roommates are everywhere.

Probably… not, right?”

Xie Yan: “…….”

Lin Chuji: “…….”
