Chapter 22: The Oath of a Devil’s Heir

One sunny day after the rain.

Lucy, who had visited the academy early in the morning, was climbing the steep slope alone.

The steep slope was damp from the drizzle that had fallen the night before.

With each step she took, her new leather shoes that she had just received caught her eye.

The cute brown sneakers were new shoes that Arasia had given her as an entrance gift.

I heard that she had made them herself or something, but anyway, they felt quite comfortable.

The place she was headed to was the Academy auditorium.

The entrance ceremony was scheduled to take place there, and she wore a school uniform to match.

A striped skirt.

A shirt.

And even a coat with Edem’s emblem on it.

In a fantasy world, the school uniforms weren’t much different from modern ones.

In fact, they were more elegant.

The only thing she wasn’t used to was that she was wearing a girl’s dress instead of a boy’s.

Lucy stroked the hem of her skirt.

A black skirt that went down to her knees.

It was time she got used to it, but she just couldn’t get used to this skirt.

Soon, the round-roofed school building came into view beyond the steep slope.

Near the entrance, students wearing the same uniforms were lined up and entering.

They were all demons, so their appearances were diverse.

Some had horns, some had purple skin, and some had four arms.

To put it nicely, they were unique.

Among them, she thought she was relatively ordinary, but on the contrary, she was the one who attracted the most attention.

Her relatively young appearance.

She was the top student admitted.

She was the princess.

She was drawing attention because of these three factors.

Although she was bothered by the whispers here and there, Lucy stood in line as if nothing had happened.

Inside the auditorium.

The interior, which was luxuriously decorated with chandeliers, was so crowded that there was nowhere to step.

A rehearsal was going on on the stage, and the new students were moving around to find their assigned seats.

According to Edem’s custom, the top student had to take the oath of admission, so Lucy’s assigned seat was in front of the stage.

After a while, Lucy found her seat and sat down.

Fortunately, the front row was spacious and comfortable.

Anderjan, who she had seen last time, was leading the faculty on the stage right in front of her.

He greeted her with his eyes.

When she saw him, she suddenly remembered what had happened last time.

It was really strange.

Why did they pick me as the top student?

All the practical exams were postponed, and although I was at the top of the class for the written exam, I wasn’t that great.

In that situation, I received the notice of acceptance.

And I was the top student.

Maybe that’s why I was more puzzled than happy when I first saw the results, and it was the same now.

Andreyan calmly greeted me and went about his business.

Lucy looked at him with her chin resting on her hand, saying, “A man whose intentions I don’t know at all.”

Meanwhile, the preparations for the entrance ceremony were underway at a rapid pace, and the empty seats were quickly filled with new students.

Andreyan, who had finished the rehearsal, came down from the stage and approached Lucy.

He was holding a piece of paper in his hand.

“What’s going on here? That piece of paper?”

“It’s the oath that will be used for the oath-taking ceremony that will be held soon. I thought it would be better for you to look at it in advance.”

“Yes… hmm.”

Lucy made an unpleasant expression as she looked at the paper she was handed.

The dirty long oath.

Just thinking about reciting it in front of hundreds of people made my head hurt.

Knowing this, Lucy had initially refused, but the academy insisted that it was “our long-standing tradition that has continued for hundreds of years,” so she had no choice but to accept.

Lucy looked at the paper with a mischievous expression.

Meanwhile, Anderjan squinted his eyes as he adjusted his glasses.

The entrance ceremony was about to begin, but the seat next to Lucy was empty.

“Is that Miss Abbet in the second row? Being late to the entrance ceremony is a big deal.”

The entrance ceremony soon proceeded smoothly.

Total number of students: 150.

Current number of students: 149.

Remarks: 1 person not present.

Miss Abbet von Lichberg.

There were separate seats set up at the top of the auditorium for the parents.

They had gathered to congratulate their children on their entrance.

As expected from a prestigious academy, it was mostly comprised of upper-class demons such as the ‘wealthy aristocrats’, ‘aristocratic council’, and ‘priests’.

It was quiet there now.

Even though the entrance ceremony had not yet begun, no one was chatting lightly and everyone was swallowing their breath.

That was unusual.

Usually, the reason parents (aristocratic) attend the entrance ceremony is to build connections between departments before congratulating their children on their admission.

There is no better place to build connections than the entrance ceremony.

However, everyone just stared at the stage without saying a word.

The reason was the four demons sitting in the very last seats.

The four demons, each with their own unique aura, were watching the entrance ceremony with a relaxed attitude.

The audience could tell who they were right away because of the ‘Uroboros’ engraved on their cloaks.

The Seven Great Demons.

Loyal servants of Satan, those who were entrusted with a portion of the ruling authority of Helaters, and those with omnipotent power.

No matter how much the nobles flew and crawled, they were nothing more than docile lambs in front of them.

Why did they come here?

Everyone there knew that there was no need to think about the reason.

Lucy Deviluke.

The rumored princess and the daughter of Satan.

Because she was entering the school today.

The nobles in the audience repeated their names in their heads.

From the left.

Bloody Empress Elsa.

Eye of Helathor, Abrod.

Darkness, the Dark Demon.

Sword of Satan, Agamut.

All four great demons except for Dragos, who had gone on an expedition to the northern region, and Arasia, who was guarding the palace, had gathered.

The nobles were all silent at the sight of this unprecedented sight.

At that moment, Elsa broke the endless silence and unleashed her wild words, characteristic of a berserker.

“When on earth is this entrance ceremony going to start? I’m going to get tired of waiting.”

“Watch your words, Elsa. We’re gathered here to congratulate Lucy-sama on her entrance by Satan’s orders.”

“No one knows that, but we just want to see his child.”

Elsa turned away from Agamut, who was urging her, and made a displeased expression.

The people in the audience instinctively flinched at the murderous intent that was unintentionally leaking out.

“Arasia, if that damn b*tch weren’t here, I would have been in charge of guarding the palace, but Satan-sama says that b*tch is better than me in some way.”

Agamut turned his head as if he was going crazy.

Darkness, who was next to him, seemed accustomed to this situation and was completely absent-minded.

In the end, Abrod had no choice but to mediate the situation this time as well.

“Calm down, Elsa. The reason Arasia was in charge of managing the palace was simply Satan-sama’s decision that her abilities were more suitable for guarding the palace. It wasn’t because you were inferior to her.”

“Hmm..”

“Oh, the entrance ceremony is about to start over there.”

The small talk suddenly ended and the entrance ceremony began.

A short address by the academy faculty.

Following that, they performed the entrance ceremony of declaring the student oath.

The ash-haired girl went up to the stage.

At this moment, everyone in the audience couldn’t help but be excited.

And so were they.

“Wow! What is that, it’s so cute!”

“Don’t utter blasphemous words, Elsa.”

“Oh, that’s the daughter of Satan.”

“Hmm.”

Lucy began to recite a long and lengthy oath on the stage.

Meanwhile, the audience was busy taking in her face with their eyes.

“What do you think when you see it with your own eyes, Abrod?”

Agamut asked Abrod, who had the best eye among them, to evaluate Lucy’s potential.

Abrod nodded and slowly opened his eyes that had been closed the whole time.

His discerning eyes were famous for their ability to see beyond the ‘magic’ of the target and even penetrate their souls.

Soon, Lucy was reflected in his eyes.

He saw… nothing.

To put it more precisely, he couldn’t see.

The magic surrounding her was distorting the space as if it was not allowing him to see through.

“.!?”

Abrod doubted his own eyes for the first time in his life.

There was nothing that the inspection had not seen through.

He looked at Lucy again with a feeling of doubt, and all he got in return was a cold warning.

She began to glare at Abrod with sharp eyes while reading the oath.

At that moment, a cold sweat ran down Abrod’s forehead.

“What’s wrong, Abrod? Is there something strange?”

When asked about his impressions, Abroad confessed his feelings without hesitation.

“It’s a little scary, haha..”
