Chapter 23: Everyone Leaves—But No One Truly Wins

After the medical team left once more, Zhongli Miaomiao finally figured out the situation, let out a surprised “Ah,” and quickly covered her mouth, then began apologizing profusely to Sang Zhiyi.

The few servants from the Zhongli family standing at the door nearly dropped their jaws in shock.

They knew that even when facing her own older brother, the current head of the Zhongli family, their young lady had never been so humble!

Just then, the assistant Song Ying had called to deliver the mushroom and shrimp congee also arrived.

Seeing so many people crowded around the hospital room door, the assistant stopped in his tracks, repeatedly checking whether he had come to the wrong place.

Zhongli Miaomiao watched, bewildered, and whispered to Sang Zhiyi, “Sister Xiaoqian, your place is even livelier than I imagined?”

Wave after wave of people.

This time, Sang Zhiyi really did laugh, a soft sound, her eyes curving into crescents.

Zhongli Miaomiao’s tense and guilty mood was finally somewhat dispelled by Sang Zhiyi’s smile.

Sister Xiaoqian could smile so sweetly, so her body must be mostly recovered, right?

Zhongli Miaomiao carefully examined Sang Zhiyi and finally concluded, “Sister Xiaoqian, you seem to be recovering much better than Sister Yingru.”

Sang Zhiyi’s gaze paused.

She hadn’t been able to get information about Jiang Yingru’s condition from Song Ying, but it seemed Zhongli Miaomiao had more detailed information.

Seeing that the situation had already become like this, Lou Yanchen’s hope of talking to Sang Zhiyi alone was completely dashed, and he was quite irritated.

Sang Zhiyi certainly wouldn’t miss such a good opportunity to send the scumbag away.

Sang Zhiyi took the initiative to speak, softly offering Lou Yanchen a way out.

“President Lou, my current physical condition isn’t very good.

I need to take a few days off…

Once I’ve recovered a bit in a few days, I’ll go to Starlight to find you.

Is that okay?”

Lou Yanchen agreed.

Rather than continue to endure the frustration of everything developing contrary to his wishes, he might as well leave first and wait for a more suitable opportunity to be alone with Sang Zhiyi and properly sort out this tangled mess.

Lou Yanchen nodded.

Before leaving, he glanced at Song Ying.

Thinking of the unwillingness and resentment he had felt at being outdone by Song Ying ever since arriving at Sang Zhiyi’s hospital room, he finally reflected seriously on whether he could do something for Sang Zhiyi.

Finally, Lou Yanchen made a promise to Sang Zhiyi.

“Your agent and assistant were negligent and too irresponsible toward you.

I will fire them both.”

Sang Zhiyi found this somewhat amusing.

Originally, Ren Xiaoqian’s agent and assistant had been personally arranged by Lou Yanchen.

The reason they were irresponsible toward Sang Zhiyi was simply because Lou Yanchen had grown increasingly cold toward Ren Xiaoqian, and they were just acting according to the situation.

Didn’t the root cause still lie with Lou Yanchen?

But Sang Zhiyi only cast a grateful look toward Lou Yanchen on the surface, and finally, when he left, his expression looked a little better.

Sang Zhiyi knew that Ren Xiaoqian’s agent and assistant, those two opportunists, had not participated in ultimately causing Ren Xiaoqian’s death.

She wouldn’t pursue them specifically; it was quite appropriate to let Lou Yanchen fire them.

After seeing Lou Yanchen off, Sang Zhiyi looked at Song Ying.

The intention of seeing the guest out was obvious.

Song Ying nearly laughed in exasperation.

“You’re still drinking the congee I bought, and you haven’t even crossed the river yet, but you’re already thinking of tearing down the bridge?”

Sang Zhiyi held the mushroom and shrimp congee, looking utterly obedient, as if her whole heart was set on Song Ying’s well-being.

“Director Song, you’ve been keeping watch over me here all night.

You’ve worked so hard.

You finally got to see me wake up.

You really should get some good rest.”

Sang Zhiyi’s tone was extremely sincere.

“Otherwise, I’ll be worried.”

“Fine, fine, fine.

No matter what, you’re always the one in the right.”

Song Ying shook his head with a laugh, bending down to pick up his phone, which was still placed in the corner of Sang Zhiyi’s hospital bed.

Song Ying was indeed tired.

Having been at the hospital for so long, there were also many matters he needed to go back and handle.

He simply went along with Sang Zhiyi’s intention and left.

Just as he stepped out of the hospital room door, Song Ying heard Sang Zhiyi asking Zhongli Miaomiao from inside the room.

“Miaomiao, how is Sister Jiang doing now?

Do you know where she is?”

Her tone was somewhat urgent.

Song Ying: “…”

Song Ying’s footsteps froze for a moment.

He had a feeling that he and Lou Yanchen, the two men, had been competing with each other for so long, only to end up losing to a woman, Jiang Yingru.

Zhongli Miaomiao was indeed very clear about Jiang Yingru’s situation.

“Sister Yingru is currently quite stable.

She’s hospitalized for treatment.”

Zhongli Miaomiao immediately answered. ”

Don’t worry, Sister Xiaoqian!”

When Sang Zhiyi had been in trouble at the mall, Zhongli Miaomiao had just returned to the villa in the show’s vehicle.

Casually scrolling through her phone, Zhongli Miaomiao saw that everywhere was talking about Liu Bolin’s collapse.

When she clicked in, she saw a live stream screenshot of Sang Zhiyi lying unconscious on the ground.

Zhongli Miaomiao was so scared she jumped up on the spot and immediately rushed back to the mall.

By the time Zhongli Miaomiao returned to the mall, Sang Zhiyi had already been taken away by the ambulance.

Before Zhongli Miaomiao could even breathe a sigh of relief, news came from upstairs in the mall that Jiang Yingru had fainted from the shock.

Zhongli Miaomiao: “……??!”

Zhongli Miaomiao nearly choked on her own breath.

She had never imagined that she had been so blind before, having a crush on such an utterly terrible fool like Liu Bolin!

After cursing Liu Bolin’s ancestors for eighteen generations, Zhongli Miaomiao hurriedly followed the staff upstairs to look for Jiang Yingru.

With intense emotional fluctuations and intense physical activity, Zhongli Miaomiao ran all the way until the hair on her forehead was completely stuck down with sweat.

During this time, Jiang Yingru’s assistant also arrived.

Jiang Yingru’s assistant was a petite but mature and capable woman.

She was obviously no stranger to handling such situations.

Standing among so many panicked people on the scene, the assistant stood out with her calmness.

She efficiently administered emergency medication to Jiang Yingru, dispersed the bewildered staff members crowding around Jiang Yingru, created a ventilated environment for Jiang Yingru, and administered initial emergency measures.

Finally, this assistant also directed the transfer of Jiang Yingru to a specialized heart hospital, handing her over to the doctors who regularly treated Jiang Yingru.

Zhongli Miaomiao continued telling Sang Zhiyi, “I asked Sister Yingru’s doctor.

He said her condition this time isn’t severe, but her physical foundation is too weak.

She still needs to rest and recuperate for a while.”

Knowing that Jiang Yingru was not in danger, Sang Zhiyi finally felt much more at ease and finally had the appetite to eat.

The mushroom and shrimp congee Song Ying had sent was quite delicious.

Song Ying’s assistant waited nearby until Sang Zhiyi finished the congee before leaving.

Before leaving, Song Ying’s assistant took away the trash generated by the takeout he had brought, and also very solemnly handed something over to Sang Zhiyi.

It was an ordinary small white piece of paper, with elegant, flowing black handwriting written across several lines.

(Your fantasy,)

(I will fulfill.)

(Next collaboration.)

This somewhat familiar format, as well as the completely blank signature area, made Sang Zhiyi realize immediately.

This was a small note Song Ying had written to her, deliberately imitating the handwritten card she had sent him.

“Fantasy” referred to when Sang Zhiyi had told Song Ying during the lottery drawing at the beginning of the second episode of Love of a Limited Season, “Saying things like that will make me fantasize about having a chance to work with you in the future.”

She hadn’t expected Song Ying to still remember.

Sang Zhiyi didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.

She also didn’t know when Song Ying had prepared this note, having his assistant give it to her only after he had already left.

She hadn’t expected Director Song to have such a shy side.

The assistant was still waiting quietly beside her, clearly wanting to get a reply from Sang Zhiyi to report back to Song Ying.

Sang Zhiyi readily responded.

“Please tell Director Song that I understand, and I very much look forward to our next collaboration.”

Sang Zhiyi had indeed chosen to be on good terms with Song Ying partly because she wanted to collaborate with this acclaimed director.

In the original plot development of this world, after all six episodes of Love of a Limited Season aired, Song Ying would, as the chief director, shoot a film called Insect-Eating Rotten Wood, which would win countless awards and become a significant milestone in film history.

Now, due to her arrival, the plot development had already changed significantly.

Sang Zhiyi didn’t know whether the film Song Ying was inviting her to collaborate on was actually Insect-Eating Rotten Wood.

But she was confident that with her own abilities and Song Ying’s talent, they could create a classic no less than Insect-Eating Rotten Wood.
