“Eat well and study hard.”
The perfectly normal follow-up sentence threw Lee Chae into even greater chaos.
It sounded awkward—like reading straight from a Korean textbook—but the problem was that Haejin kept looking more and more like a normal human being.
Every time that happened, Lee Chae forcibly recalled everything the lunatic had done:
spewing lewd nonsense in public, stealing his textbook and refusing to return it, stalking him nonstop…
He repeated to himself: No matter how normal he looks right now, inside he’s still a thug.
Meanwhile the food arrived.
Perfectly grilled steak, shrimp salad on the side, a matching ade, and for dessert a tiny chocolate cake topped with a cherry.
A flawless course—if only Haejin would stop cutting his meat for him like he was five, Lee Chae might have tasted it.
When Haejin went to pay, Lee Chae didn’t want to stand there like an idiot, so he stepped outside first.
Haejin caught up immediately.
“There’s still time before your shift, right? Library?”
“What’s it to—”
He was about to snap, but the guy had just bought him dinner. Saying “thanks for the meal” was impossible, but outright biting felt too harsh.
“I don’t know about you, but it’s exam period, so yeah, library.”
“Good boy.”
They reached the main gate.
Suddenly Haejin grabbed his hand.
Lee Chae was so startled he couldn’t even shake it off.
“What the hell—suddenly?”
“Will you be able to focus in the library right now? It’ll be packed.”
Lee Chae snorted.
“Never been to the library, huh? The only ones who actually study for exams at Awakened Management University are low-ranks like me aiming for civil service. Everyone’s desperate—no one disturbs you.”
Haejin’s face crumpled like his entire plan had collapsed.
Pure satisfaction.
“So go do whatever you have to do.”
That lasted three seconds.
The lunatic suddenly tightened his grip on Lee Chae’s wrist and started sprinting.
Lee Chae had no idea why or where they were going—he was simply dragged.
He tried several times to wrench free, but the strength difference made it impossible.
“Are you insane? Why are we running? Let go while I’m being nice. If you don’t—”
“What, file another complaint?”
“No! I’ll hate you for the rest of my life.”
He kept flailing.
Haejin gripped harder.
“If you don’t want to be carried, just follow. You know I’ve been holding back like crazy.”
Yes, this is the real Cha Haejin. Normal my ass. Couldn’t even last a day and a half…
He hated the situation, but the moment the familiar lunatic nature resurfaced, a strange sense of calm returned.
They arrived at a very familiar place.
<Legion>
Not far from school or his part-time job—thankfully not a problem.
“Why here? Suddenly.”
Haejin answered without changing expression.
“So you can study comfortably.”
Lee Chae was so baffled his fighting spirit vanished.
Still holding his wrist, Haejin dragged him into the elevator and down—not to the residential floor he’d seen before, but one level lower.
If the upper floor felt like a home, this one was a cluster of independent rooms and meeting rooms equipped with laptops and beam projectors.
Haejin finally released him inside one of the rooms.
“How is it? Good for studying?”
It really was perfect.
No Legion members in sight—quiet. Good lighting. Large desk, window blocked by blinds—vision nicely restricted.
“…Whatever.”
“Great. Sit and study. I won’t bother you.”
Lee Chae sighed and sat.
One exam left tomorrow—wasting time fighting would be stupid.
He took out his textbook and summary notes, reviewing the must-memorize parts.
Tap.
He looked up—Haejin had placed a row of drinks on the desk.
Lee Chae stared alternately at the drinks and Haejin’s face.
“You expect me to drink all of these?”
“Drink them all, or pick what you like.”
“…”
His throat was dry anyway, so he reached for the peach juice can.
A large hand snatched it first.
He glared—was this a joke?
Haejin opened the can, stuck a straw in, and handed it back.
“…Here, peach.”
He whispered so softly Lee Chae almost missed it.
His eyes were glued to the can touching Lee Chae’s lips, then to Lee Chae’s throat as he swallowed.
“If you want some, drink it yourself. Why stare like a creep?”
“W-What? You said I could drink it if I want… haa…”
Haejin let out a half-sigh, half-moan, then left the room.
He was fine a second ago—what’s wrong with him? Is he actually sick? His energy felt normal… No, not the time.
Lee Chae slapped his cheeks and glued his eyes to the book.
Thirst quenched, nuisance gone—perfect.
He repeated writing and memorizing.
When he checked the time, thirty minutes had passed.
Twenty more minutes and he’d reach the cleanup crew right on time.
Five minutes later, Haejin returned, looking refreshed.
He sat across from Lee Chae, opened a book (but didn’t read it), and just stared at Lee Chae’s face.
Lee Chae felt the gaze full-force but kept his eyes on the page.
Letters that had gone in fine when Haejin was gone suddenly refused to register.
He blinked hard to focus.
A long finger appeared in front of him.
His cheek was grabbed, head lifted.
Haejin was holding both cheeks now.
The spots he touched burned; Lee Chae’s face scrunched involuntarily.
“I said you’d let me study!”
Haejin just stared, dazed.
Then he lifted the other hand and cupped the remaining cheek.
Lee Chae had no idea what the lunatic would do next—fear crept in.
“You’re not going to stretch them sideways or pinch, right?”
“No. Something was on your cheek, I was taking it off.”
His voice was low, eyes heavy.
Even someone as dense as Lee Chae knew what that meant.
He wanted to push away, but his body froze.
Thump, thump—heart pounding loud enough to hear.
Haejin’s lips slowly touched his forehead, then left.
A soft mwah and an electric jolt ran through him; his shoulders shook.
“There was something on your forehead, but you were looking down.”
Didn’t he just say it was on the cheek?
Haejin smiled sheepishly, oblivious that his lie had been caught, and released the cheeks.
Lee Chae backed away, frowning.
Chair scraped loudly.
He had no idea whether to be angry or say thanks for removing whatever it was.
“Shift time. I’m going.”
He fled Legion like he was escaping a fire.
He ran and ran, checked behind him—no Haejin.
Thank god.
“Crazy bastard, mega-pervert, good-looking lunatic…”
He spat every curse he knew, trying to calm his racing heart.
It still wouldn’t slow down.
Even at the cleanup crew, he couldn’t focus on guiding.
Sigh after sigh leaked out.
“Lee Chae-ya, if you sigh any harder the ground’s gonna cave in.”
“Ah… were my sighs that loud?”
“Yeah. You sure nothing’s wrong? The espers were asking. They said you’ve been soulless lately.”
“It’s nothing.”
Every time Yeo-jun asked with genuine worry, Lee Chae barely swallowed the words:
There’s a lunatic stalking me and I have no idea how to shake him off.
He didn’t want to burden Yeo-jun—who was already worried about low-rank espers’ safety and the sudden surge of unidentified intangibles—with his trivial problem.
Compared to saving humanity, one personal stalker really was nothing.
But…
Crazy → normal → crazy again, the unpredictable rollercoaster kept occupying Lee Chae’s head until the shift ended.
The faint red mark Haejin’s lips had left on his forehead stayed there all the way home.
