Violet never imagined that a single question, one that wasn’t even an accusation, could provoke such a strong reaction from Nastasia.
“No, I’m not doubting your identity. I was just wondering what I would need to give up to become your follower.”
“Nothing!”
Almost as soon as Violet’s words fell, Nastasia’s voice followed.
As if fearing she hadn’t heard clearly, She repeated herself:
“Nothing at all, you don’t need to give anything. As long as you can trust me, even as a lay believer, I will protect you!”
Violet fell silent, her head lowered, her expression unreadable.
She was contemplating just how much credibility the words of an Evil God held.
No matter how gentle Nastasia appeared now, Violet still couldn’t forget the things Her followers had done in her past life.
Human experiments, live sacrifices, even instigating wars.
They were like NPCs on a fixed respawn timer.
Even after being wiped out time and time again, they would respawn at a set time each day and then rush off to cause destruction everywhere.
Without a supreme leader directing them, it would be impossible for that group of followers to achieve such a unified goal.
So, who was the highest leader of a cult?
This wasn’t her past life; gods were real here!
“Snap—!”
As Violet was deep in thought, she suddenly heard the sound of an iron chain breaking.
Then, she felt a lightness on her wrist.
The chains that had bound her had been forcefully snapped by Nastasia!
Violet looked up in confusion, only to meet Nastasia’s somewhat desolate gaze.
Noticing the girl’s line of sight, Her large eyeball curved into an arc, as if smiling.
“Oh well, it’s okay if you don’t want to be my follower, it’s just that…”
Her voice grew quieter and quieter until, in the end, even Violet could hear a hint of grievance in it.
After all, she was the one who had summoned Her.
Not only were there no offerings, but she was also unwilling to become Her follower.
And yet, the Lord Evil God didn’t hold it against her and even helped her break free.
At that moment, an image of a watermelon with eyes and a mouth appeared in Violet’s mind, calling her a letdown.
Seeing Nastasia’s tentacle about to retract into the spatial rift, Violet hurriedly called out to stop Her:
“Wait!”
Nastasia’s tentacle paused, somewhat bewildered, but still obediently returned to Violet.
Under the red light, the girl slowly extended her hand towards Her, the sheepskin scroll in her hand swaying:
“Actually, I can’t write.”
“…”
Nastasia froze for a moment.
The next second, a tentacle shot out abruptly.
“You’re willing to become my follower?!”
Hearing the voice in her mind, a mix of shock and excitement, Violet nodded imperceptibly.
At this, Nastasia became even more excited.
She circled around Violet, as if celebrating the imminent arrival of Her first follower.
“It’s okay if you can’t write, leave it to me!”
The next moment, the sheepskin scroll in Violet’s hand burst into flames out of thin air, startling her into dropping it.
In the silent room, a strange chanting suddenly arose, as if countless people were softly murmuring a benediction.
Although it was a language she couldn’t understand, Violet could clearly make out that the object of this blessing was the Nastasia before her.
Her eye was slightly closed, the tip of Her tentacle gently touching Violet’s forehead.
As the chanting grew more intense, Violet could vaguely sense something entering her body.
There was no discomfort from a foreign object entering her; instead, a warm and comfortable feeling spread throughout her body, making Violet involuntarily narrow her eyes.
The poison injected by the tentacle monster, the wounds from its bites, all slowly vanished under the effect of this power.
A moment later, Nastasia’s tentacle withdrew.
Her voice was weak, but it was filled with unmistakable excitement:
“Alright, from today on, you are my first follower!”
“First follower?”
Violet’s eyes widened in astonishment.
She had never expected that at this point in time, Nastasia had not yet recruited any followers.
Nastasia didn’t catch the surprise in her tone.
She just swayed Her tentacle and explained:
“Yeah, a while ago, a human calling herself Syks broke my seal and said she wanted to make a deal with me.”
Hearing this, Violet’s face darkened.
She had already guessed the content of the deal.
“She said that if I helped her create a body, she would help me break the seal, and even help me recruit followers!”
At the mention of followers, Nastasia’s large eyeball sparkled, filled with an indescribable longing.
“So I gave her a part of my body. As long as it eats a piece of that person’s body tissue, it can take on that person’s shape.”
Halfway through Her explanation, Nastasia suddenly noticed that Violet’s expression was a little off.
She hurriedly moved closer, wanting to stroke her face with the tip of Her tentacle.
“My kin, are you feeling unwell anywhere?”
Violet hesitated for a moment, but still told her about the conflict with Syks.
After hearing her out, Nastasia’s first reaction was to instantly prostrate herself, the tip of Her tentacle wrapping around Violet’s legs, and then wail in a tearful voice:
“My kin, I’m so sorry! I really didn’t expect that bad woman’s target would be you! Waaah! Please don’t abandon me!”
As She spoke, Violet felt that warm power surge into her body again, washing over her as if it cost nothing.
“I’ll give you all my power, all of it! Just don’t abandon me, sob sob sob!”
“Alright… I’m fine…”
The corner of Violet’s mouth twitched.
She tentatively tried to lift her leg, only to be held even tighter by Nastasia.
“Now’s not the time for this. Do you have a way for me to escape from here?”
Nastasia paused, then quickly released Her tentacle and obediently coiled herself on the floor.
“Leave it to me, my kin. I will definitely get you out of here!”
With that, She tried to wrap around Violet again, but was deftly dodged.
“Even if we get away today, Syks will definitely send people after me when she doesn’t get what she wants. So, we have to make her think I’m already done for.”
As she spoke, Violet bent down and picked up the unconscious tentacle monster, holding it out to Nastasia.
“Didn’t you say it can take on my appearance? Can you…”
“Of course, I can. All it needs is a single strand of hair.”
Nastasia’s voice was so matter-of-fact, as if this was how the tentacle monster was always used.
“Huh?”
Violet blinked blankly.
She had thought that for this tentacle monster to take on her appearance, it would have to eat her whole.
Turns out, this was it?
“Of course! Whether male or female, as long as it eats a small part of the body tissue, it can create a perfect replica! Even a false god wouldn’t be able to detect it!”
Nastasia’s voice was a little cheerful, with an undertone of “Aren’t I amazing?”
