Chapter 42: The Price of a ‘Husband’

Chu Lingge’s lips twitched involuntarily.

‘You truly are my dearest sister,’ she thought.

Yet, given the current circumstances, she found herself unable to utter a word.

“Then let’s proceed as the Sect Master wishes.”

Bai Zhenye smiled, dividing five-tenths of the spirit stones.

However, after her divine sense inadvertently swept over the pouch, her expression subtly shifted.

‘Three million, actually!’

Chu Lingge had no choice but to accept it.

“Hall Master Su, this concubine will accept them.”

She tugged, but it wouldn’t come loose.

Looking up, she saw Immortal Zhenye’s eyes gleaming.

It was as if she were a dragon guarding its hoard.

“Give them to her!”

Su Qin gazed longingly at the one and a half million.

He was desperate to stuff it into his own pocket.

Bai Zhenye shot him a glare.

A vein throbbed visibly on her temple.

She actually managed to forcefully snatch the storage pouch back from the hands of a Core Formation Body Cultivator.

“Sect Master, what is the meaning of this?”

Chu Lingge forced a smile.

She marveled at her best friend’s immense strength.

“Ahem, as the saying goes, ‘where the husband sings, the wife follows.’ I’ve suddenly remembered that I shouldn’t contradict my husband’s decisions.”

Su Qin pursed his lips.

‘It’s still ninety thousand, what a needless fuss.’

‘And this ‘husband’ title? He hasn’t even acknowledged it, yet she’s already throwing it around.’

‘Sigh, her fists are hard; whatever she says, goes,’ Su Qin thought.

A dejected look settled in Su Qin’s eyes.

He certainly wouldn’t easily acknowledge that title.

Having such a madwoman was worse than being chopped down by her.

“Very well, then we shall split the earnings seventy-thirty, as is customary.”

Chu Lingge’s expression was peculiar.

Bai Zhenye nodded, separating a portion.

Though she smiled, a pang of reluctance was evident.

Chu Lingge exerted considerable effort before finally pulling the storage pouch over.

She counted its contents, and her eyes widened in surprise.

“Why is there only one million?”

Bai Zhenye assumed the air of a grand entrepreneur.

She magnanimously patted her affluent chest.

“For old times’ sake, sister, consider the extra hundred thousand a gift. No need to look for change.”

Su Qin: (⊙ˍ⊙)

‘Truly, my wonderful wife!’

Even the demoness’s eyes were smiling.

Chu Lingge shot him an exasperated look.

Su Qin immediately averted his gaze.

He adopted an expression of utter helplessness.

In his heart, however, he gave his ‘wife’ a huge thumbs-up.

“Husband, do you think this arrangement and handling are appropriate?”

Su Qin was practically beaming with delight.

Yet, on the surface, he maintained a facade of resignation.

“Alas, I have no objections. But since my wife has spoken, I have even fewer.”

An extra one million one hundred thousand.

Even if he had negotiated himself, he could never have achieved such a price.

It was truly worth it!

For this much money, he would even willingly let the stunning Bai Zhenye sit on him with her ‘big drum’ (TL Note: A humorous euphemism for a woman’s buttocks or ample figure) for three days and three nights.

“So, this capable and money-making husband, who is your gentle, virtuous, and family-managing wife?”

Bai Zhenye gently tapped his nose.

Su Qin was always susceptible to praise.

Upon hearing this, the corners of his mouth automatically curved upwards.

“You, you are my wonderful wife.”

“As husband and wife, we’ll split it fifty-fifty.”

Su Qin’s smile froze, and sweat beaded on his nose.

“Your share, I’ll hold onto it for now.”

The demoness wanted to lash out, but restrained herself.

She also wanted to smash something.

Only, he was still frozen.

Bai Zhenye smiled as she unfroze him.

She then patted his head affectionately (TL Note: A playful gesture, implying ‘calming him down’ or ‘stroking his fur’).

Su Qin, fuming, squatted down right there.

“Husband, what’s wrong?”

“My duodenum hurts.”

Chu Lingge watched the strangely well-matched pair.

The more she thought about it, the more something felt amiss.

‘A honey trap (TL Note: A scam where someone is lured into a compromising situation, often for blackmail or robbery) ?!’

First, this fellow Su Qin, without any prior discussion, burst into her boudoir.

Then, he deliberately used his frail physique to tempt her.

But Chu Lingge, being virtuous, did not fall for it.

So, just as they were about to seriously discuss money.

Her best friend then barged in to catch them in the act.

This whole charade directly turned her two million one hundred thousand into one million.

Suspicious, far too suspicious.

For instance, Su Qin clearly wanted nothing to do with Bai Zhenye.

So why was he so audacious just now, daring to insult her to her face?

The more Chu Lingge observed.

The more she felt these two resembled a pair of notorious bandit partners.

“Hall Master Su, shouldn’t you be thanking this concubine?”

Chu Lingge’s tone was laced with sarcasm.

Su Qin abruptly looked up, his eyes reddened.

“My money, my money! You take two million, I get one million, and you still expect me to thank you (trembling voice)!?”

Though not even a million had actually made it into his pocket.

The two women had never seen him so angry.

Wisely, they ceased provoking him.

“Sect Master, keep a close eye on your husband; don’t let him wander off again.”

Chu Lingge was irritable, her words carrying a veiled threat.

“You wouldn’t want your husband to take on someone else’s form, would you?”

If those two were to pull this trick again.

Chu Lingge would use her Charm Cultivation Technique to turn Su Qin into someone who only had eyes for her sister, automatically multiplying by hundreds (TL Note: A humorous exaggeration, implying he would become obsessed with her sister, or perhaps a ‘human ATM’ for her sister).

“Hmph!”

Bai Zhenye narrowed her eyes and, without a word, pulled Su Qin into her embrace.

“I don’t need your reminder. Tonight, I’ll ‘eat’ him (TL Note: A playful, suggestive remark meaning to take possession of him or discipline him intimately) and properly set some rules for him.”

“Furthermore, my husband is a virtuous and upright man; not just anyone can tempt him away.”

Chu Lingge also narrowed her eyes.

She caught the scent of a challenge.

Her plans had changed.

Even if Su Qin didn’t come knocking, she would still present her arrogant best friend with a ‘hat’ (TL Note: A Chinese idiom, ‘giving someone a green hat,’ which means to imply their partner is cheating on them, or more broadly, to cause them humiliation or a loss of face).

“Hmph, let’s hope so.”

Imperceptibly, a significant rift had formed in their once intimate friendship.

“I strongly suspect you two planned this beforehand.”

Chu Lingge’s face was filled with suspicion.

Su Qin, who moments ago had been on the verge of death.

The moment his face pressed against Bai Zhenye’s alluring curves, he broke into a doting, silly grin.

It was as if none of it mattered anymore.

“Of course not.”

Bai Zhenye denied.

“Then why did you come here today?”

Chu Lingge’s words carried an underlying meaning.

“Oh… I just remembered, there’s an important matter I need to attend to.”

Bai Zhenye patted Su Qin’s shoulder, signaling him to stop ‘sucking’ (TL Note: Implying he was overly comfortable or clinging).

“Lingge, you must come too; it’s very important.”

Both Su Qin and Chu Lingge were somewhat puzzled.

“What matter?”

“It’s barely dawn now; I can’t leave.”

“Just follow me.”

Bai Zhenye stated with a serious expression.

The disciples of Sehua Hall were sweeping the hall as usual.

Suddenly, the sky darkened, and snowflakes began to fall.

The disciples shivered.

In a daze, they saw the Sect Master and Hall Master emerge.

They hastily prostrated themselves, yet simultaneously felt a strange curiosity.

‘Is there a man beside the Hall Master?’

Each of them cast a sidelong glance.

They saw the man’s high-bridged nose and eyes as deep as an abyss.

Though his physique wasn’t particularly robust, he exuded a soul-stirring aura.

The disciples quickly lowered their heads.

Yet, they felt another wave of strangeness.

‘The Sect Master and the Hall Master… how are they each holding one of that man’s hands?’

Sweat trickled down Su Qin’s back as he secretly groaned in misery.

Chu Lingge’s tender little hand held his just right.

Her movements were no different from how she had gripped ‘there’ (TL Note: A suggestive reference to a man’s private parts, implying she was deliberately teasing him or using a provocative touch) when venting her frustration earlier.

She even lightly brushed his palm with her pinky, simulating the sensation of being licked by a tongue.

Bai Zhenye was even bolder.

She subtly placed his hand directly over her lower abdomen.

Allowing him to feel the profound longing emanating from deep within her flesh.

“What sin have I committed to deserve this…”

The two women exchanged glances, then became even more audacious.

They could have simply flown on their swords.

Su Qin himself could fly even faster than sword-flight.

Yet these two insisted on a three-person walk.

Resigned, after an entire journey of torment, Su Qin finally arrived at the Sect’s Council Hall.

The three of them stepped into the hall together.

Elder Gao’s annoying voice rang out.

“Sect Master, it is he! Three thousand disciples of my Bone Painting Hall perished by his hand! This man is truly a viper, a scorpion, a tiger, a leopard (TL Note: An idiom describing a cruel and vicious person)!”

“He is making an enemy of the Demonic Sword Sect!!”

Before Su Qin could even speak.

Several ‘hats’ (TL Note: An idiom meaning accusations or labels) were immediately slapped onto him.

However, he didn’t care.

What concerned him was Gu Yuhe, held captive by bone soldiers and looking incredibly weak.

“Master…”

That single utterance conveyed all the tenderness in the world.

The little girl tried hard to force out her best smile.

Yet, tears streamed down her face uncontrollably.

“It’s truly wonderful that you’re unharmed…”
