Chapter 44: A Delicate Captivity

Su Zhuozhi was utterly terrified of him.

His entire body was taut, his toes curling inward instinctively.

He had never felt this way—every inch of his skin burning and tingling, a shame he couldn’t put into words, mixed with a touch of anger. Afraid that Xie Jue would actually seize his ankle and lick the scars, he had no choice but to raise his hand and press it firmly against Xie Jue’s chin, resisting, refusing to let him come closer.

He didn’t know that he looked exactly like a kitten being hugged and sniffed—fur standing on end, frantic and flustered, pitiful and adorable, making others want to bully him even more.

Xie Jue didn’t press further downward. What was brought to his mouth, he gladly accepted.

As long as it was Su Zhuozhi, any part of him would do.

So he grasped the hand pressed against his chin and bent down to kiss the palm.

Su Zhuozhi hadn’t expected to deliver himself straight into the tiger’s jaws. The ticklish sensation on his palm made his face flush even redder, his fingertips turning pink as they curled in helpless protest, like a clam struggling to shut its shell against an intruder. But his strength was no match for Xie Jue’s. Trembling, he endured one kiss, then another.

Xie Jue’s pitch-black eyes gleamed with an unnatural excitement, as if he had obtained a long-awaited treasure—afraid it would break if held in his palm, afraid it would melt if kept in his mouth.

Su Zhuozhi even suspected that Xie Jue wanted to kiss every inch of his body, leaving no spot untouched.

His heart grew even more panicked and fearful.

He bit his lip, enduring the urge to save himself. Straightening his back, he tried to look more imposing, suppressing the tremor in his voice as he feigned calm: ‘Y-you said that if I became the Demon Lord, you would obey my commands, didn’t you? Right now, I command you to stop.’

Before speaking, he had been filled with anxiety and hadn’t held much hope. But to his surprise, after he finished, Xie Jue actually obediently stopped and looked up at him quietly.

The feeling was subtle. Like a big dog waiting for his command.

Su Zhuozhi pursed his lips, hesitated a moment, then tentatively tried to get down from Xie Jue’s embrace. But the moment he moved his feet, the hands at his waist tightened, pressing him back firmly, trapping him securely.

‘Is this how you obey orders?’ Su Zhuozhi turned to look at him, unable to resist a jab. ‘As the Demon Lord, is there some special rule that I have to sit on the previous Demon Lord’s lap?’

Xie Jue curled his lips into a smile, amused by his words. But after being glared at, he restrained his expression, coughed, and forced a serious tone: ‘Where does the young master want to go? Your status is noble—don’t tire yourself out walking. I’ll carry you.’

Having said that, he actually lifted Su Zhuozhi by the waist, effortlessly, and strode out of the hall.

Xie Jue said with mock seriousness, ‘This is to demonstrate the young master’s power and position. You deserve to be well served.’

When Xie Jue smiled, the gloom and obsessiveness around him faded, making Su Zhuozhi relax a little. It felt somewhat like their old master-servant relationship. He kicked his legs and struggled, putting on the airs of a young master, demanding that Xie Jue let him go.

In his movements, his slender, delicate ankle peeked out from under his robes, startlingly white.

Xie Jue looked at it, staring fixedly.

Su Zhuozhi stiffened, hastily pressing down his leg and tugging at his robe to cover it. Reluctantly, he conceded: ‘…Just carry me.’

Better that than licking.

Su Zhuozhi reasoned with himself: it saved him the effort of walking, and let him laze around. Xie Jue had often carried him like this before, so it was nothing unusual.

Seeing that Xie Jue was still staring at his foot, Su Zhuozhi reached out and turned his face back, making him look ahead. Changing the subject, he said, ‘Why are you still calling me “young master”? It should be “Your Eminence.”‘

But Xie Jue said, ‘I prefer to call you that, my young master.’

In truth, Su Zhuozhi didn’t really care what he was called; he was used to Xie Jue calling him young master. He was just looking for a topic to talk about. Of course, he knew he couldn’t really be the Demon Lord, and he had no interest in it anyway.

Xie Jue carried him to the bedchamber.

The furnishings and layout gave a strong sense of familiarity and warmth, startling Su Zhuozhi.

Because it was almost identical to the Yulan Hall in the Su residence.

‘How…’ He opened his mouth to ask something, but abruptly realized that Xie Jue was carrying him toward the bathhouse at the back of the room.

‘What are you doing?’ Su Zhuozhi asked warily.

Xie Jue lowered his eyes, his tone casual: ‘It’s time for a bath.’

His tone was calm and matter-of-fact, as if this was something he had always done.

But Su Zhuozhi had never liked being watched while bathing; he always washed himself. When he looked up and saw the eager excitement on Xie Jue’s face, like someone who had been looking forward to this for a long time, his whole body went numb.

‘I don’t need it!’ Su Zhuozhi’s face turned red with urgency.

Xie Jue looked a little surprised. ‘But you’re covered in dust. You love cleanliness, don’t you? You can’t stand even a speck of dirt.’ He still clearly remembered that when he first arrived at the Su residence, Su Zhuozhi had only kicked him twice before calling a servant to wipe his feet.

Su Zhuozhi obviously wanted to bathe, but that didn’t mean he was willing to be watched by Xie Jue.

He grabbed the doorframe, exactly like a cat unwilling to take a bath. Xie Jue’s hand covered his, fingers slipping between his, interlacing them, and pulling them down irresistibly.

As he was about to be carried away, Su Zhuozhi, without thinking, lifted his head—as if he were going to kiss him. Xie Jue’s body instantly stiffened, paralyzed.

But with a bang. It wasn’t a kiss—Su Zhuozhi had slammed his head into Xie Jue’s chin.

Then, taking advantage of Xie Jue’s momentary daze, he nimbly jumped down and landed on the ground.

Su Zhuozhi shook off his hand. Xie Jue came to his senses and immediately grabbed it again, his face turning cold, his eyes pitch-black, and his voice hoarse with suppressed anger: ‘Are you toying with me?’

Su Zhuozhi retorted, not understanding: ‘How am I toying with you? You’re the one who won’t listen to me. I hate that the most.’

When Xie Jue heard the word ‘hate,’ he fell silent abruptly, the fury that had just ignited extinguished. He didn’t want to hear those words from him.

Su Zhuozhi studied him for a moment, feeling that he seemed to have regained a bit of reason and could temporarily listen. Then he said, ‘I’ll go myself. You’re not allowed to follow.’

As soon as he said that, he remembered something and added, ‘The demonic energy too.’

Xie Jue lifted his eyelids. ‘You already know?’

Not only did he know, he had seen it.

Su Zhuozhi’s gaze fell on the black mist swirling wildly around Xie Jue. Ever since he arrived at the demon palace, the demonic energy had been in this hyperactive state, extremely alarming.

But when Su Zhuozhi looked at it, the black mist suddenly twisted violently, almost coiling itself into a tangled knot.

Su Zhuozhi: ‘…’

He ignored it, turned around, walked inside, and closed the door.

Then, his body went limp, his back sliding down the door panel until he collapsed on the floor.

He had been scared to death.

He had only been acting on impulse, not thinking much before headbutting him. Afterwards he regretted it, afraid that Xie Jue would go mad and kill him, but unexpectedly, Xie Jue had inexplicably listened to him again.

Why? Did Xie Jue like being hit? Or had his intimidation momentarily stunned Xie Jue? No, it seemed Xie Jue was a bit afraid of him being angry.

Su Zhuozhi was like a cat that had fallen into a ball of yarn—completely tangled, the more he struggled, the deeper he sank, unable to extricate himself. He couldn’t make sense of Xie Jue’s strange attitude toward him.

He had a bit of a headache and also disliked the dirty robe on his body, so he chose to first take off his clothes and bathe.

He soaked his entire body in the warm water, squinting with enjoyment. Then he turned his head to look at the door again, let out a frustrated sigh, sank deeper until his chin and lips were submerged in the water, and pouted, sending a string of transparent bubbles gurgling up to the surface.

He dawdled for a long time, not wanting to come out.

But there was a knock on the door, and Xie Jue’s voice came through. ‘Young master, not done washing yet?’

Su Zhuozhi replied, ‘Almost, almost.’

To avoid Xie Jue barging in, he had to stand up and step out of the bath. Then he remembered that he had no clean nightclothes to wear…

He looked at the dirty robe on the floor with some distaste. Use a cleaning spell and keep wearing it?

At that moment, Xie Jue seemed to see through his dilemma. The door creaked open.

Su Zhuozhi rushed over in a fluster, quickly hiding behind the door.

Xie Jue handed a set of clothes through the doorway. Su Zhuozhi reached out to take it.

A glimpse of a fair, slender arm caught Xie Jue’s eye. Following it, he saw Su Zhuozhi completely naked, separated only by a door. All he had to do was push the door open with force, and he could pull the person into his arms, pressing close without any obstacle.

Xie Jue’s throat moved as he swallowed. He closed his eyes, exerting all his strength to suppress the demonic energy that was trying to sneak into the room.

Su Zhuozhi quickly dressed, but the sleeves and hem were much too long, obviously the wrong size. Were these Xie Jue’s clothes?

He opened the door and walked out, opening his mouth to ask, but first saw a lump of black mist on the floor, docile and well-behaved, as if it had been waiting for him all along.

Strangely, it looked like a big dog with its tongue out, obediently squatting and waiting for its owner to finish bathing.

Su Zhuozhi paused in his steps. He looked to the side and saw Xie Jue also squatting by the door, his long legs folded up, curled into a ball, looking a bit pitiful.

‘…’ Su Zhuozhi’s heart skipped a beat. He was silent for a long time, not knowing what to say.

It was Xie Jue who first broke the silence. ‘Finally done bathing?’

Su Zhuozhi nodded. ‘Mm.’

Xie Jue stood up and stepped forward, then lifted the person again, expressionless, walking toward the canopy bed in the inner room.

The demonic energy coiled around, tentatively touching Su Zhuozhi’s bare foot.

Su Zhuozhi flinched, clutching Xie Jue’s lapels, and said, ‘Don’t let it touch me.’

Xie Jue: ‘I can’t control it.’

Su Zhuozhi was momentarily stunned, incredulous. ‘How can that be? This is your demonic energy.’

Xie Jue lowered his eyes to look at him, his voice low and hoarse. ‘Demonic energy is the manifestation of my desires. What it does is exactly what I want to do. How can I stop it?’

Su Zhuozhi was a bit bewildered, and before he could come to his senses, he was thrown onto the bed.

The bedding was made of fine brocade, soft and silky, so falling onto it didn’t hurt at all. But it was so sudden that Su Zhuozhi felt dizzy. His dark hair spread beneath him, forming a stark contrast with his fair skin, and his loose nightclothes were in disarray.

He tried to sit up, but as he moved his hand, he accidentally touched something hard, producing a crisp clinking of metal.

He instinctively turned his head to look, but Xie Jue abruptly leaned over him. His forearm muscles flexed, and there came several snapping sounds. Then he threw something away.

Su Zhuozhi craned his neck curiously to see, but Xie Jue pressed him down with one large hand, forcing him back onto the bed.

That was a chain specially forged before capturing Su Zhuozhi, naturally he couldn’t let him see it.

However, there was something that could be used.

Xie Jue grasped his ankle. His foot was small enough to be held with one hand—slender and long, pale with a hint of pink. Putting a thin golden chain on it had an indescribably sensual feel, making one want to do something.

Su Zhuozhi lay on the bed, unable to make out Xie Jue’s dark expression, but he felt an ominous pressure that made him instinctively retreat, shrinking back like a wet little fish trying to escape Xie Jue’s grasp.

But soon, Xie Jue caught him again and held him fast. His thumb rubbed against the top of his foot, sending a ticklish sensation that made him shiver.

A click sounded. His ankle felt cool, and a thin object slid down, pressing against his skin.

Bracing himself on the bedding, Su Zhuozhi sat up and discovered that his left foot now had a thin chain—delicate and exquisite. It was pretty, but it carried an unsettling connotation. He also saw the satisfied expression on Xie Jue’s face.

Panicking, he reached out to take it off.

Xie Jue blocked him. He reached with his other hand, but both his wrists were caught in one of Xie Jue’s hands, immobilizing him.

‘Don’t take it off, or I’ll put something else on you—something you won’t want.’ Xie Jue stared at him, his gaze dark.

It sounded like a threat no matter how you interpreted it. Su Zhuozhi glared at him angrily.

So much for being afraid of angering him, so much for being a docile big dog—all a facade! He had been deceived!

‘Let go, I want to sleep!’

Su Zhuozhi shouted angrily. As soon as Xie Jue released him, he pulled the quilt over himself, rudely turning his back to Xie Jue, his entire body radiating displeasure.

When Xie Jue lay down beside him, he rolled up in the quilt and tumbled to the inner side of the bed, becoming a caterpillar-like bundle, not sharing a bit of the quilt with Xie Jue.

But Xie Jue wasn’t angered. Instead, he sat up and skillfully tugged at the quilt, trying to cover Su Zhuozhi’s exposed foot.

But once his gaze landed, he couldn’t look away.

Su Zhuozhi’s left ankle was slender and delicate. The golden chain wrapped around it made that section of his skin appear almost luminously white, giving off a fragile vulnerability that invited handling—a devastating beauty.

Xie Jue reached out and gently tugged the chain downward, pulling Su Zhuozhi a bit closer.

Su Zhuozhi was frozen stiff.

Xie Jue pulled the chain upward, and one leg was lifted, causing the quilt to bulge.

Unable to contain himself, Su Zhuozhi turned around and kicked him.

But Xie Jue took the opportunity to grab his ankle and bent down to kiss it.

When the curled-up Su Zhuozhi realized what he had done, his pupils contracted. His fingers unconsciously clutched the soft pillow, his heart storming like a tempest.

Is he a pervert?!!!

When Xie Jue lay down again, he noticed that the small part of Su Zhuozhi’s face that was visible was bright red. His ears were pink, and even his neck took on a rosy hue—so beautiful it was unbelievable.

Unable to resist, he reached out and pinched the tiny earlobe again; it was burning hot and smooth to the touch.

Su Zhuozhi endured it, staying still and pretending to sleep, even though his eyelashes trembled like butterfly wings wet by rain.

Because he was afraid that if he appeared awake, this pervert would become even bolder and do things too shameful to speak of.
