Chapter 6: Being a Rich Unemployed Man Is the Best!

I woke up and blinked several times.
But something felt strange.

‘Why is the ceiling still white?’

The ceiling in my house was yellowish from mold.
And it certainly wasn’t this high.

‘…………??’

Why was I lying in a bed?
And this ceiling looked familiar, while the situation itself felt like something I had experienced just before falling asleep.
Was this déjà vu…?

If I had woken up, I should have been in the university library…

Had someone carried me to a bed?
That couldn’t be it, though.
The bed was too large…
Too white…
And it looked exactly like the bed I had seen before falling asleep.

‘Haha, no way…’

My heart pounding, I nervously approached the mirror.

No.
No way.
That couldn’t be.
This had to be a dream.
It had to be a dream, but this was definitely a dream…

‘Why is that handsome lunatic’s face in front of me?’

His skin wasn’t as pale as the protagonist’s, but it was still fair enough, completely clear and free of blemishes.
His dark gray hair looked thick and smooth.
His gray eyes had an almost opaque quality to them.
And there were two beauty marks beneath his right eye, which the protagonist had once described as sexy.

His body looked toned and supple, as if he worked out regularly, and he was dressed in a white shirt and black slacks.

If the protagonist possessed a heaven-sent beauty, the lunatic had the kind of sexiness and handsomeness that could easily outshine most celebrities.

But why?!

Why was this handsome body still my body?!

I frantically grabbed the handsome lunatic’s face.
I rubbed it.
Squeezed it.
Mangled it.
I even pinched myself.

‘Why am I not waking up?’

I had never actually thought about how to wake up from a dream before.

If I’d known this would happen, I should have watched more television programs and learned how dreams worked.
Then again, I needed to own a TV before I could watch one!

I had lived my entire life surviving on scholarships despite being so poor I didn’t even have a TV at home!!

Why was this happening to me?!

Maybe I had some undiagnosed terminal illness, collapsed in the library, fallen into a coma, and was dreaming all of this…

Or maybe the library had suddenly collapsed while I was sleeping and I had died…

As if!

There was no way something like that had happened!

Unless…

‘What if I really did enter this body?’

If that was the case, then this situation was…

‘Is this what they call transmigration?!’

Where had the real owner of this body—the lunatic’s soul—gone?
Was I a ghost?

My head was a complete mess.

I tried everything I could think of to get back into my original body.
I hit myself.
Pinched myself.
I even smacked myself in various places.

Eventually, I managed to leave a small bruise on my cheek.

Only after seeing a bruise appear on this flawless body did I finally come to my senses.

‘No.
This is an opportunity.’

I took a deep breath and calmed myself down.
Once I did, my thoughts became clear.

My current body had ridiculously long legs, a great figure, a handsome face, and, on top of all that, belonged to a ‘powerful rich heir.’

And I had already separated the protagonist from him yesterday, so it could be considered that the original story of the novel had completely disappeared.

‘Then I’ve completely hit the jackpot?!’

A life spent struggling because I was poor.
Studying things I didn’t want to study.
Working part-time jobs.
Risking everything for scholarships just so I could stay in school and eventually get a job.

The days I had spent feeling disillusioned with the world while hopelessly pining after money were now over.

I had been given the chance to live as a rich, unemployed man—the very thing that had been my future dream, my aspiration, my wish, and my one true love!

I had no family or attachments waiting for me in my original world, so this was basically like winning the lottery!

The moment I thought about it that way, I became insanely happy.
A huge, foolish grin naturally spread across my face.

‘Well, if the real lunatic eventually comes back and asks for his body, I can just give it back to him.’

No.

‘This rich-heir life is mine now!’

A poor life where I had barely managed to survive had finally come to an end.

The tearful struggle was over.

My blissful life as an unemployed rich man was beginning!

Then the most important thing I needed to do right now was…

‘To prevent any unforeseen problems and flee overseas for the sake of the perfect unemployed lifestyle!’

There was always the possibility that the protagonist might suddenly come back declaring that he loved me.

And what if the Stockholm syndrome had already kicked in and he was now completely obsessed with the lunatic?

Wow.

Just imagining it was exhausting and creepy.

For the sake of my perfect unemployed life, the protagonist was the number-one thing I needed to get rid of.

And even though he hadn’t gone to find his father yet, I had already made him a rich heir earlier than he became one in the novel.
What if he became wealthy and came chasing after me?

Ugh.

This time, I actually got goosebumps all the way up my arms.

That absolutely could not happen.
I didn’t even want to imagine it.

There was only one solution.

Flee overseas and never come back.

‘I have a really bad feeling about this.
If I’ve made up my mind, I should probably act on it.’

The lunatic’s body seemed to be sending out warning signals with every inch of itself.
As if it were some kind of wild beast.

Still, it was a feeling I couldn’t ignore.

And then there was the protagonist’s behavior when we parted.
He had been ridiculously sweet-potato-like until the very end…

Maybe the warning my body was giving me meant that the story of the novel was going to proceed along its original course after all.

I immediately called Secretary Kim.

Shortcut number 0.

As expected, Secretary Kim answered before the phone had even rung three times.

–Yes, Young Master.

“Secretary Kim, get everything ready for me to leave the country immediately.
Process my withdrawal from school.”

–Pardon?
Young Master, what do you mean?

“Ask about the details later.
I think I need to go study abroad for a while.
As for the country, hmm…
Somewhere in Europe.
I want somewhere quiet with good food.”

–……Understood.
I expect the Chairman will be informed, so I’ll come see you first.
Are you at the officetel?

“Yes.
Please make it as fast as possible.”

–Yes.

Nice.
Even in the middle of all this, I had remembered the most important things for my unemployed lifestyle: food, clothing, and shelter.

And I had chosen Europe, the place I’d always wanted to visit most.

A place like France would have delicious food and beautiful scenery.
I could stay in a hotel indefinitely and spend money like water.
I could even travel around all the famous places in the world.

What could possibly be bad about being a rich unemployed man?!

I could eat at Michelin-starred restaurants three times a day!
I could buy clothes by the armful and waste money to my heart’s content!

For starters, I wasn’t going to touch a single book.

And after playing around until I was sick of it, I could even stay in bed all day without ever stepping outside the blankets.

‘Ah!
This is so wonderful just imagining it!’

Excited beyond belief, I rolled around on the bed and went completely wild.

‘Aaaah!
Even rolling around on such a soft bed is amazing!
Being a rich unemployed man is the best!’

I have no idea how long I continued rolling around in ecstasy.

Eventually, the doorbell rang, followed by the sound of Secretary Kim entering.

Only then did I straighten my clothes and hurriedly calm myself down.

The door opened, and Secretary Kim entered, giving me a slight bow.

“Good morning, Young Master.
Most of the arrangements have been taken care of.
I’ll report to you now.”

“Go ahead.”

I sat on the bed with my legs crossed, listening to Secretary Kim’s report with an air of leisurely composure.

“First, I looked into the earliest flight to France.
If you choose the 5 p.m. flight, the destination and departure time can be changed at any point.
As for accommodations, because we’re short on time, I’ve made several reservations at five-star hotels near the airport.
Which one would you prefer?”

Secretary Kim handed me information on several hotels.

‘Ah, our refreshing Secretary Kim!
Secretary Kim really is the best!’

The hotels Secretary Kim had selected all looked incredibly luxurious, as expected of five-star hotels.

Among them, I chose the one closest to the city center.

Naturally, I’d spend the beginning of my trip sightseeing!

I decided I could buy things I needed after arriving, or have them shipped later once I found a permanent home.

When Secretary Kim asked whether I wanted to find a separate house, I said yes.

I told him I wanted somewhere reasonably close to the city by car, yet secluded and peaceful, with beautiful countryside-like scenery.
Preferably somewhere with a lake or river.

And a garden, too.

A quiet house with a garden.

I wondered if I was asking for something ridiculously expensive, but Secretary Kim simply wrote down everything I said and told me he would look into it.

Ah.
Being rich really was the best!

Now that my food, clothing, and shelter were taken care of, it was time to worry about money.

I cautiously glanced at Secretary Kim before asking,

“What about my father…?”

The novel had barely mentioned the lunatic’s family.

The only real information was that he was the youngest son of an extremely wealthy family, and his family took care of the messes he caused no matter what he did.

Since the protagonist was the important character, most of the family-related storyline had focused on V Group, his new family.

Because of that, I had no idea whether I should call the lunatic’s father ‘Father’ or ‘Chairman.’

Hopefully, Secretary Kim wouldn’t find that suspicious.

“The Chairman was informed, but he had no other comments.
He simply said that you should live quietly… while overseas.”

“Hmm…”

Judging by that response, there didn’t seem to be any danger of my allowance being cut off.

The lunatic really did seem to be the son his family had completely given up on.

It didn’t look like I would suddenly be expected to inherit the company or get dragged into some succession battle.

If I were in his father’s position, I suppose I would be irritated too if my son caused nothing but trouble…
Even if he was the youngest and most beloved.

But while I was completely unconcerned, Secretary Kim’s expression looked strangely troubled.

Despite how much the original lunatic must have pushed him around, he actually looked worried about me.

Could it be that you…?
