Haejin grabbed Lee Chae’s shoulders. Lee Chae’s wandering gaze finally met his.
“I know what you’re thinking—useless worries. Today I’m officially registering you with Legion and filing you as my exclusive guide.”
Lee Chae’s eyes doubled in size.
“Already?”
Haejin didn’t answer. He yanked Lee Chae up, positioned him in front of the wall mirror, and pulled down the left side of his robe. Pointed at the vivid mark on his collarbone.
“See this?”
“Ah…”
Lee Chae stared blankly. Mouth open, pupils shaking—he was clearly shocked.
“No turning back. Accept it. You’re the one who said we had to imprint.”
He hadn’t meant to sound harsh, but Lee Chae kept trying to hide, making him uneasy. Lee Chae nodded repeatedly.
“I know. Stop being mad.”
Haejin rested his chin on Lee Chae’s trembling shoulder, looking at them both in the mirror. The shaking told him how confused Lee Chae was. He kissed the trembling shoulder and whispered,
“I’ve never been this certain in my life. So stop worrying.”
“You came to save me… survived that brutal fight…”
Was that his answer to “don’t worry”? Haejin waited silently for the rest.
“If I still doubt after that, I’m the idiot. I’m not anxious because of that…”
He was about to praise Lee Chae’s smarts when Lee Chae lifted his head, eyes full of determination.
“I’m like this because I like you. I like you too much.”
“…”
Another no-turn-signal punch. If he’d said he was scared Haejin’s feelings would cool, Haejin would’ve teased him mercilessly. But “too much” made the teasing vanish. Yeah—if you like someone too much, you get anxious. He’d claimed certainty, yet looking at Lee Chae still made him nervous.
Maybe the imprint? He understood Lee Chae’s heart without long explanations.
“Sunflower seed tasted good, huh.”
Lee Chae grinned.
“Delicious. Wanted to savor it.”
“Bulk size—don’t savor, eat your fill.”
Ding. Message tone. Haejin dove for Lee Chae’s phone to see which bastard dared text now.
“Why are you checking my phone?”
“Couples share everything. Check mine too.”
He shamelessly unlocked it (he’d memorized the pattern) and read.
[Legion Sung Jin-woo] Japchae, how long do we have to stay away? We’re out of meeting topics. This is the limit.
“Pfft—HAHAHA.”
Haejin clutched his stomach laughing at the unexpected message. Lee Chae snatched the phone in panic.
“Damn it… of all times!”
“Our Lee Chae wanted to eat the sunflower seed quietly alone.”
“It’s not like that!”
“Then what’s that message?”
“Anyway it’s not!”
Lee Chae’s face turned red to his ears—like he’d explode. Haejin wiped tears of laughter and finally stopped. Then he remembered Jin-woo’s name in the phone.
Wonder what he saved me as? Honey? Babe? My love?
Time to standardize pet names now that they were imprinted.
“Chae-ya, what am I saved as in your phone?”
“You first.”
Haejin confidently showed his.
‘Cute Sexy Hamster Honey ♡’
Lee Chae grimaced.
“Just save me as Jung Lee Chae normally.”
“Gotta differentiate from others.”
“How are others saved?”
“Wanna see?”
Lee Chae checked the contacts and shook his head.
“Jin-woo, Jae-hyung, Professor Kim, Seok-jin… too lazy to type full names? You don’t even know their family names?”
“I call them ‘dog’ with the first name anyway.”
Lee Chae laughed like whatever and started dressing. While he was distracted, Haejin sneakily changed his own contact in Lee Chae’s phone.
‘Delicious Sunflower Seed Honey ♡’
Jae-hyung’s gaze on the two emerging was downright lewd. Yong-yong tilted his head at Jae-hyung’s sudden creepy smile. Lee Chae’s face did look redder than usual.
“Collateral! Hospital. You sick.”
Yong-yong tried to carry him; Jae-hyung forcibly sat him down.
“Not sick, chill. And from now on—no touching collateral’s body.”
Yong-yong tilted his head again.
“Why?”
“Curious? Look at captain’s face.”
Yong-yong glanced—Haejin was glaring murderously. Yong-yong hid behind Jae-hyung, terrified.
“C-captain why like that. I did nothing wrong.”
Jae-hyung patiently explained.
“Yong-yong-ah, collateral is now captain’s mate. If a strange male touches his mate, captain gets mad—natural.”
“Ah… then I understand. Bit sad collateral taken, but if they happy, okay.”
“Our Yong-yong’s so smart. Then you’ll hate others touching you too when you get a mate?”
“Why me? I have no mate.”
“You will soon.”
Lee Chae snickered. Just watching them made him laugh. A cushion flew at Jae-hyung’s head—Jin-woo, back from the fake meeting.
“Told you to stop seducing the innocent dragon.”
“It’s mutual! We’re mates! Stop insulting our love. Yong-yong likes me so much.”
Jin-woo snorted.
“True? You like Jae-hyung?”
“Jae-hyung gives meat every day—so just hearing name makes drool. Jae-hyung said that’s liking. So I like!”
Lee Chae burst out laughing. He wanted to say that’s liking meat, not him but held back. Jae-hyung glared.
“Hyung-soo-nim, no funny business. Don’t say weird stuff to Yong-yong. Just agree with everything I say.”
Lee Chae nodded obediently. A dragon he’d rescued was adapting well and even found a partner—worth celebrating.
“Yes, Jae-hyung is 100 % right.”
Jae-hyung sighed in relief. Lee Chae laughed until he noticed Haejin had gone quiet. Haejin’s eyes were narrowed, jaw tight—like he had something to say. Everyone stopped laughing. Haejin seized the moment.
“Since we’re all here— Lee Chae is now an official Legion member. Treat him well.”
Jin-woo laughed like it was ridiculous.
“Why announce the obvious? Every Legion member already knows Jung Lee Chae is our only guide.”
Jae-hyung added,
“Not just members—whole school knows he’s your exclusive.”
“Really?”
Haejin scratched his head and grinned. The living room filled with happy laughter.
Lee Chae thought, God, this feels good. Being part of Legion, laughing with them—this moment was indescribably happy.
As a mediocre D-rank guide, he’d built walls to avoid contempt. He’d thought relationships only hindered survival. He was wrong.
He looked at each face, tears welling.
“Thank you… I’ll work hard from now on.”
Jin-woo teased, “Yo, crying?” Haejin smacked his back—“Tease my emotional hamster and you’re dead.” Jae-hyung and Yong-yong clapped in sync. Something kept surging in Lee Chae’s chest.
Then Jae-hyung raised his hand.
“I’ve got something too. Yong-yong is now an official member—so everyone know that.”
Jin-woo instantly objected.
“Can a non-awakened dragon even be a member? Pretty sure that’s not in the rules…”
Jae-hyung flared.
“Don’t hurt Yong-yong’s feelings. He earned merit in the last battle.”
Yong-yong, who’d been listening sadly, chimed in.
“I’m fine. Just living here together is good enough. Can’t ask for more.”
His drooping eyes and teary gaze broke hearts. Lee Chae felt like he was looking at his past self—excluded for being D-rank.
He decided to ask Haejin later to make Yong-yong official too.
Then Haejin spoke. He was smiling, but his eyes were serious.
“Shut up, all of you. Yong-yong’s official too. Anyone got a problem?”
No one did. The dragon’s promotion was unanimously approved. Yong-yong’s eyes sparkled brighter than ever. Lee Chae laughed until tears fell again.
This is home.
