Chapter 74: Mandosha Flower, Him, and an Angel

“Useless fools! What is wrong with you? Several of you against a seventeen-year-old princess? I’ve raised you for nothing!”

In the Seventh District of Saint Louis.

Inside the Howard family residence.

Rain poured down, and several black-clad men, who looked somewhat unsteady on their feet and were covered in a layer of frost, knelt before a lavishly dressed, blond young master.

Dylan Howard. He was furious.

He never imagined that they would fail to take down Ye Wangxue even with this.

After all, two hours ago, when he learned that Ye Wangxue, Himan, and the others had suddenly left the Faxtius residence, Dylan was very excited.

For their family, defeating the Von Braun and Faxtius families through conventional means was certainly not possible.

They had to do something drastic.

If they were to directly assassinate Hall or Himan, their intentions would be too obvious.

Getting rid of Ye Wangxue became the best strategy.

On the day of the engagement, Hall, as the fiancé, was absent, and the fiancée was assassinated that same night. The public opinion would be unimaginable.

The Faxtius family’s inaction would cause their family’s reputation to plummet.

The emperor of Great Xia, having lost his daughter, would demand a thorough investigation. But Dylan was confident that the College of Cardinals would not find any clues on such a rainy night. And even if the investigation led to the Howard family, what could they do?

The crime of an old noble family of the West assassinating an Eastern princess.

Compared to the crime of the Faxtius family’s dereliction of duty due to an assassination by nationalist fanatics.

Of course, the latter was the better choice.

Now was not the time for the two countries to go to war. In the eyes of the College of Cardinals, the Faxtius family would surely become the scapegoat.

The Howard family could take the opportunity to carve up the Faxtius family’s power. Besides, assassinating Ye Wangxue couldn’t really be considered a major crime.

Even if the College of Cardinals found out, from a fundamental standpoint, they were on the same side as the College of Cardinals.

As long as their position did not waver, a great noble family would not fall.

On the contrary, it would be the Faxtius family who intended to form a marriage alliance with Great Xia, betting on both sides, whose intentions were questionable.

So he hastily arranged an assassination tonight, one assassin at level seventy, and three in their sixties. And yet, they failed.

“Young Master, we underestimated the enemy. This Ye Wangxue is even more formidable than the rumors say. She also has strength close to level seventy, and the quality of her weapon is far superior to ours.”

The lead assassin had been a member of the Silver Knight Order in his early years. Even in the Papal State, a level of seventy was not low.

In the army, even without a family background, being a major would be no problem.

He worked for the Howard family mainly because he was short of money, and they paid more.

“How good could her weapon be? Could she be carrying a weapon with her on her wedding day? She’s not a woman from Cateline.”

‘You’re trying to fool a ghost,’ Dylan thought.

The lead assassin, however, thought that this Seventh Princess Ye was probably fiercer than the women of Cateline. The moment he had struck, after a brief moment of surprise, she had become even more ferocious than him.

He had not expected Ye Wangxue to be so aggressive. Plus, with the happy expression on her face, it seemed she had received some major boost today.

The ice-condensing property and the heavy rain caused their limbs to become extremely stiff after a few rounds of fighting, and their speed was greatly reduced.

Let alone assassinating Ye Wangxue, they were almost assassinated by her instead.

Indeed, he didn’t know that Ye Wangxue was in a rage and wanted to cut someone, fighting as if her life depended on it.

“Sigh, in short, Young Master, this subordinate is incompetent. I’m afraid we’ll need to ask an expert of level eighty to take action, or equip us with the family’s legendary weapon…”

Hearing this, Dylan couldn’t help but feel a little annoyed.

Was a level eighty expert someone he could just order around?

Unless his father also agreed to his assassination plan, he wouldn’t be able to mobilize them.

Not to mention legendary weapons. The family only had two, one with his father, and one with his trusted general who was guarding the north with his father.

The highest he was worthy of using was a heritage-grade weapon.

“You mean, it’s impossible?”

“Yes, Young Master. Tonight was the best opportunity, but… as you know, Young Master, the young master of the Faxtius family was with Leticia today. However, the Child family probably won’t support their relationship. Besides, by doing this, the princess of Great Xia might be dissatisfied with him and will break off the engagement.”

“Oh?”

Hearing his subordinate say this, Dylan felt it made sense.

As long as Ye Wangxue broke off the engagement, Hall would not have the political leverage to compete with him in the future.

“Why not do this, Young Master? The entire Saint Louis dislikes this princess from the East. Why not take advantage of this and make this princess suffer some grievances? That Hall Faxtius won’t show up, and after a few maneuvers, she will surely break off the engagement in a fit of anger and return to Great Xia.”

“Good, let’s do that.”

Late at night.

Hall was staying at a hotel next to Childland in the Twelfth District.

It was still raining heavily outside, and it was not quiet.

He was not sleeping, just standing on the balcony of his hotel room, looking at the night.

Leticia had indeed gone back obediently, and Himan and Lorraine had also left.

He was here alone.

After tonight’s events, Ye Wangxue would most likely break off the engagement immediately.

Hall knew the procedures for breaking off an engagement. According to the normal process, they should go to Holy Light University tomorrow to handle the admission procedures for Ye Wangxue.

But now Ye Wangxue was definitely going to break off the engagement, so she probably wouldn’t appear at Holy Light University tomorrow.

He would go to the school first, and then get Ye Wangxue’s reaction tonight from Himan…

“Who’s there?”

There was an abnormal but familiar scent in the air.

It was brought by the wind.

He looked against the wind and saw a young lady sitting in the darkness, on the edge of the balcony of another hotel room that was supposed to be empty.

She was not holding an umbrella, but the rain could not fall on her.

The lights in that hotel room were off, and he could only vaguely see her outline with the help of the magic lamps outside the hotel.

She was half-hidden in the shadows, but her figure and the shape of her legs were unmistakable.

And, very familiar.

He had met her somewhere before.

It should be part of his lost memories.

“Hall, you have a fiancée now.”

“You are… the mysterious person who gave me the Rainbow Sky Sword last time?”

“Haha… it’s me.”

Mandosha Flower laughed in the night wind.

Her laughter was very pleasant, like the wind chimes hanging in the flower fields of the Kingdom of Eire.

“Why are you so concerned about my fiancée?”

He remembered that this person was also talking about his fiancée last time. But last time in the uninhabited area of the Demon God’s Labyrinth, it was a bit dangerous.

Hall was afraid of triggering a dangerous plot, so he didn’t ask much. But here.

The Child family’s hotel was said to be safer than the military hubs in many places.

And he was indeed very puzzled.

She must be related to him before he lost his memory.

“Can’t I be concerned?”

“You’re so concerned about me, do you like me?”

Hall chose a provocative and conceited statement.

But if he didn’t say this, he suspected she would continue to be a riddler.

“Saying something like this to a single young woman, are you looking to die?”

Mandosha Flower’s voice showed no joy or anger, but there was a hint of teasing.

He wasn’t annoyed and just continued.

“Then why are you concerned about my fiancée?”

“I’ve worked with her before. Of course I’m concerned about her. After all, we were colleagues before.”

Mandosha Flower said as if it was nothing.

But Hall’s heart skipped a beat.

Ye Wangxue was a princess. The word “colleague” was not very applicable to her.

But in one matter, Ye Wangxue did have colleagues.

That was when Ye Wangxue was a spy in the Papal State.

From this, one could infer…

“You are…”

“Yes, as long as you know. Be careful, the walls have ears.”

Hall suddenly felt a chill on his lips. A slender finger was covering them.

His vision was completely covered by the girl’s somewhat surging peaks.

Mandosha Flower had jumped from a high place to his front at some point, bending over and standing on a very small support point to look at him.

But he was not blinded by the undulations of her chest. He was thinking about why Mandosha Flower had sought him out.

In the game’s plot, they should have been complete strangers.

And on Mandosha Flower’s profile card, there was very little information, only that she was born in an orphanage and had gone through many hardships before joining the Salvation Church.

Because this character’s plot was very scarce in the entire game.

Some even suspected that Mandosha Flower had a secret identity.

The original words of the players’ discussion were—”As one of the seven sages, Mandosha Flower has never been a challengeable boss in any plot. In the late game, she basically becomes an invisible person. The other sages are either…”

But what Hall was more concerned about now was, had he been in contact with the Salvation Church before he lost his memory?

However, the Salvation Church was no match for the Holy Church, which ruled the faith of the Western Continent and had established the Papal State. Did he have a screw loose to have joined the Salvation Church before?

Right?

“Your eyes are darting around so quickly. What are you thinking about?”

“Did we know each other before?”

“Ah, you should have the answer.”

“Then before, did I join the Salvation Church?”

Hall’s voice was very soft this time.

The walls might really have ears. The number of plainclothes officers from the Judgment Bureau in the entire Saint Louis was not small.

Although there were not many real elites from the Judgment Bureau, the outsourced intelligence organizations were also mostly funded by the Judgment Bureau and the College of Cardinals.

“Yes, you were very brave before.”

“Was I?”

Hearing Mandosha Flower’s teasing tone, Hall could also somewhat guess the reason for his amnesia.

It was most likely related to the Salvation Church. But in any of the heretical leader’s main storylines, to go to its headquarters to explore the secrets of the world was basically a mid-to-late game thing.

“Like Himan’s more basic heroine route, in many choices, you can’t even open the map there.”

“Yes, you’ve guessed it. I can’t tell you too much now.”

Mandosha Flower suddenly leaped backward. She opened a large umbrella, and the wind carried her further into the sky.

And Hall could hear her continue.

Continuing in a language encrypted with theology.

“But, although it’s very dangerous for you, there’s still one thing I have to tell you.”

“?”

“Even if you might accept Leticia in the future, before that, you have to save her.”

If she hadn’t observed what happened tonight from the shadows and felt an emotional imbalance.

She was very worried that Hall would fall in love with Leticia.

If it weren’t for this, Mandosha Flower would not have shown herself.

“Him?”

Hall couldn’t distinguish the meaning of this “him.”

Mandosha Flower, after all, had grabbed a drop of water with magic out of thin air and struck Hall’s chest where his heart was, saying.

“Yes, that is fate.”

In the night.

Mandosha Flower drifted further and further away with the wind. She looked back from a high place.

And finally locked onto that huge cathedral.

“Angel, my dear sister, all of this… may not be fair to you.”

“But this was your choice back then. I am powerless to change it.”
