Chapter 91: The End

Uzuki Saori stood protectively in front of Shiina Rin.

Both she and Shiina Rin were just high school students, appearing far too frail in front of the tall men and the tall woman before them.

But here, her power was the most threatening.

Looking at Uzuki Saori, the other four remained silent.

“It’s useless to tell me these things. I’m not here to play house with you. Let the people behind you talk to me.”

Uzuki Saori’s tone was indifferent.

The man glanced at Karina but said nothing more.

Karina gritted her teeth in frustration.

But Uzuki Saori, completely ignoring the woman’s increasingly gloomy face, gently bent down and kissed Shiina Rin’s lips, then lifted her up in her arms.

“Rin…”

She prayed softly and tenderly.

“Disgusting.”

Karina bit her teeth as she watched this scene and spat under her breath.

Uzuki Saori acted as if she hadn’t heard, her eyes showing no emotion, simply stroking Shiina Rin’s cheek quietly and gently.

“Captain, we have a situation.”

Just then, Buz’s voice came through the walkie-talkie.

The leader frowned and brought the device to his mouth.

“What’s happened?”

“I’ve spotted two helicopter gunships. They look like units from the Special Disaster Division.”

“They shouldn’t be here… It seems we need to hurry.”

“Captain, contact received!”

The captain looked at the laptop in Xin’s hands.

A few short messages were displayed on the screen.

His face was filled with gravity.

“Very well, prepare for action!”

“Yes!”

The team members quickly packed their equipment and put on their hoods.

Karina took a deep breath and put on an electronic bracelet from her waist.

“Don’t you dare drag us down,” she said, giving Uzuki Saori a deep look.

“And get rid of your friend’s Beacon. Don’t let her get in the way at a critical moment.”

“Don’t you worry about it. I’ll take care of it for her.”

Shiina Rin’s Beacon was a silver pendant, which was now lying quietly on Uzuki Saori’s chest.

“Miss Uzuki.”

The captain stepped forward and handed a pistol to Uzuki Saori.

“I don’t need this.”

“You might need it. I hope you won’t enter Sync before the mission begins.”

Uzuki Saori glanced at the man, took the pistol from his large hand, expertly checked the ammunition, and then tucked it inside her cloak.

As an Agent, training in the use of firearms was an essential part of her education.

“In addition, ‘that lady’ also said that she hopes Miss Uzuki can lend us a hand, and she will be handsomely rewarded afterwards.”

The man added.

“What do you need me to do? If it’s to stop Ephnel, then forget it. I hope you won’t say something so unreasonable.”

“No, our mission is very simple for you—attack the ‘Boundary Monument’ and destroy the ‘barrier,’ so that our ‘Angel’ can enter the city. This was originally Sakurai Sachi’s task. They went to great lengths to send her in for this purpose, but obviously, she is no longer of use to us. Now, it’s up to you.”

“Destroy the ‘Boundary Monument’?” Uzuki Saori frowned.

“Do you know how many people will die?”

“You’re still worried about that at this point?”

“It’s not me, it’s Rin.”

The man’s gaze followed Uzuki Saori’s and fell on the girl sleeping peacefully in her arms.

“Just say whether you’ll do it or not!”

Karina couldn’t help but say.

Although making contact with Uzuki Saori on short notice was a task assigned from above, and this girl was essential for them to continue their plan, she didn’t want any mishaps at this point.

“Sorry, I can’t do it,” Uzuki Saori directly refused.

“Are you planning to do nothing at all!?” Karina questioned.

“No, you need to understand one thing,” Uzuki Saori gave Karina a faint look and raised one finger.

“The ‘Boundary Monument’ relies on powerful military fortifications. It’s far more solid than you imagine. Trying to destroy it from the outside is an impossible task, unless you can break through the interception of the garrisoned troops and the Agents responsible for defending the line, and then smash it with at least three bombs powerful enough to blow up an entire building. Otherwise, dreaming is more realistic.”

She raised a second finger.

“Secondly, trying to get inside the ‘Boundary Monument’ and break it from the inside out is also a difficult task for us right now. Even Agents don’t have the authority to enter the ‘Boundary Monument,’ not to mention I’m probably being watched now. My identity is useless there. And you, without a sufficient amount of explosives, what can you do with just these toy guns? If you think your plan is reliable, then you need to show me evidence to convince me. Otherwise, I won’t take this risk.”

“You…”

“Don’t worry,” the man stopped Karina, who was about to say something, and shifted his gaze to Uzuki Saori.

“Since we’ve come this far, we’ve already made plans for this.”

He took out a ring and placed it in Uzuki Saori’s palm.

“What’s this?”

“This is an Apostle’s ‘Beacon,’ Miss Uzuki,” the man said meaningfully.

“‘Those people’ seem to believe you have enough ability to handle this thing.”

“Become an ‘Apostle’?”

“Are you willing to take this step?”

“I don’t care.”

Uzuki Saori held the ring between her fingers and examined it for a moment, trying it on her index finger and thumb before finally wearing it on her middle finger, where it fit snugly enough.

Obviously, this size of Beacon was not designed for her, but for a woman slightly more mature than her.

“The power of the Apostle you can use now should not be weaker than Sakurai Sachi’s. You see, we have already invested three ‘loaves of bread’ to feed this space. The ‘Erosion’ concentration in this city is not much lower than outside the Boundary. This is the stage for the Apostles.”

The man said.

“With this power, we have the capital for a strong attack. Of course, we don’t intend to expose you to artillery fire. I believe that even an Apostle can’t withstand that kind of bombardment. When the time comes, you will be on standby at your position. My three subordinates will act separately to set up introduction points to the ‘outside of the Boundary.’ Those Erosion Organisms will fight for us. And Karina and I will take the opportunity to enter the garrison area. We have our people there, and we will paralyze their defensive counter-attack system.”

“Are you sure about that?”

“That’s none of your business!”

Karina’s words were always laced with gunpowder.

The man glanced at Karina and continued to speak to Uzuki Saori.

“At that time, you will follow our signal and launch an attack. After you obtain the power of the ‘Apostle,’ the defensive fortifications of the ‘Boundary Monument’ will no longer be an obstacle. As long as you completely destroy the ‘Boundary Monument,’ our mission will be accomplished, and victory will be ours with the arrival of the ‘Angel’.”

Then, he took out another syringe and handed it to Uzuki Saori.

“And this, you take it. If you feel like you can’t hold on anymore…” the man tilted his head and tapped the side of his neck with his finger.

“Just give yourself a shot.”

“What will happen to me if I inject this?”

“If the dose is too high, you might become a ‘Remnant’.”

The man’s tone was completely flat as he stated the chilling fact.

“That’s really… not funny…”

“Please rest assured, Miss Uzuki. ‘Those people’ have asked me to tell you that after this mission is completed, once we have gained control of the ruins, all the exchange requests you have made will be fulfilled.”

Uzuki Saori glanced at the man and snatched the syringe from his hand.

“I certainly hope so!”
