Chapter 29: A Painful Reminder and a Stealthy Operation

Liu Kang trembled in fear, startled by Bai Mengqi’s gaze. He quickly glanced at Master Yang.

Master Yang was clutching his chest, blood trickling from the corner of his mouth. He was slumped painfully in the corner, clearly incapable of offering him further protection.

Liu Kang understood in his heart that he was truly out of options.

“Alright, alright, I agree. I promise I won’t cause any more trouble for the Zi family,” Liu Kang quickly declared.

All he wanted at that moment was to escape his predicament and save his life.

A satisfied expression crossed Bai Mengqi’s face upon hearing his answer.

“That’s good. But don’t try to deceive me. Otherwise, the next time I come looking for you, our conversation won’t be quite so amicable,” said Bai Mengqi coldly.

Having delivered her warning, Bai Mengqi suddenly slammed her palm onto the floor beside Liu Kang.

The strike was imbued with immense power. The moment it met the ground, a heavy roar erupted, as if the very earth trembled in response.

The next instant, the floor beside Liu Kang suddenly caved in, forming a gaping hole. The thick concrete floor, as fragile as tofu beneath Bai Mengqi’s palm, was effortlessly punched through.

Liu Kang stared at the horrifying chasm, a wave of terror washing over him. He knew that if that blow had landed on him, he would have been instantly pulverized into a bloody pulp.

“Gulp! No, no, no, I absolutely swear I’ll keep my promise. I won’t bother the Zi family, or may my entire family meet a terrible end!”

Terrified beyond measure, he hastily swore his oath, his voice turning shrill with fear.

This time, Bai Mengqi was completely satisfied.

“Good, I believe you.”

Bai Mengqi stood up with a cheerful smile, as if her earlier display of intimidation had merely been a playful jest.

Then, without the slightest warning, she suddenly stomped her foot down on Liu Kang’s right leg.

“Ah… my leg, my leg!”

Liu Kang let out a bloodcurdling shriek, like a pig being slaughtered. He clutched his shattered right leg, his face contorted in agony and terror.

“That kick was just a reminder. Empty words are useless; only pain will keep you mindful. Farewell, perhaps we’ll meet again.”

Bai Mengqi bid him a polite farewell, as if everything she had just done was perfectly normal.

She then leaped out through the window she had entered, her figure like a nimble swallow, vanishing from sight in an instant.

Only after Bai Mengqi had departed did Master Yang, clutching his chest, struggle to his feet.

Suppressing his injuries, he painstakingly shuffled to the window and glanced downstairs, but alas, Bai Mengqi was nowhere to be seen.

‘So powerful. To defeat me with such ease, she must be an ability user of B-class or higher,’ he thought.

His face was pale with lingering fear. He knew he had encountered an exceptionally formidable individual today, an experience that would likely be etched into his memory forever.

Meanwhile, the Special Abilities Bureau.

A black car emerged from the old district, carrying Song Yanhua and his team from the Special Abilities Bureau.

They were formulating a plan, knowing they couldn’t simply show up openly, as that would hinder their investigation.

The car sped along, finally stopping in a secluded spot near Bai Mengqi’s neighborhood, where trees and bushes partially concealed it from view.

Song Yanhua stood beside the car, his gaze fixed on the direction of the neighborhood. He addressed his companions with a solemn expression.

“We’ve arrived. This is the place. Let’s begin the operation. Old Chu and I will lead the charge this time; the rest of you provide support. If there’s any danger, your first priority is to escape.”

His voice was low and potent, imbued with an undeniable authority.

Their mood instantly grew heavy upon hearing his words. They immediately sprang into action, beginning their disguises.

Some pulled out delivery driver uniforms from their bags, swiftly changing into them, instantly transforming into seemingly ordinary delivery riders.

Others donned courier uniforms, even carrying a special delivery bag on their backs, appearing quite convincing at first glance.

Still others changed into repairman outfits, holding various tools, looking exactly like maintenance workers heading to a job.

For ability-user police like them, who couldn’t operate openly, undercover operations were routine.

After all, their identities were special. Without disguises, they could easily be recognized by those with malicious intent, leading to a cascade of unnecessary trouble.

Moreover, they also carried devices to suppress their ability fluctuations.

As everyone knew, powerful ability users could easily sense the energy fluctuations of others. Failing to mask their own aura would quickly expose their identities, creating significant problems.

Having completed these preparations, they cautiously scaled the wall and entered the neighborhood.

Fortunately, they had already ascertained Bai Mengqi’s residence through various channels, so upon entering the neighborhood, they quickly arrived below her apartment.

“Xiao Zhou, cut the power to 3803,” Song Yanhua commanded, standing downstairs and gazing up at Bai Mengqi’s floor, addressing the female ability user still in the car.

Upon hearing the order, the girl named Xiao Zhou immediately sprang into action.

She deftly opened her laptop, her fingers flying across the keyboard, quickly accessing the area’s power grid control system. With her exquisite skill, she precisely cut the electricity to Bai Mengqi’s residence.

Wang Lei, who had been comfortably gaming in his room, was in the midst of an exciting match when his computer screen suddenly went ‘snap’ and turned black. The entire room plunged into darkness, becoming utterly pitch-black.

“Huh? What the hell? A power outage?”

Wang Lei was instantly annoyed by the sudden blackout. He had been fully immersed in the intense battle of his game, and this interruption completely ruined his fun.

He quickly picked up his phone, grumbling complaints as he dialed his landlord, asking if the landlord had forgotten to pay the electricity bill and why the power had suddenly gone out.

However, after a brief conversation with the landlord, Wang Lei learned it definitely wasn’t due to unpaid electricity bills.

The landlord, unable to help further, simply gave Wang Lei the number for the electrician responsible for the neighborhood’s electrical repairs, telling him to call them to investigate.

As Wang Lei dialed the number, the call was immediately intercepted by Song Yanhua’s team.

Upon receiving the call, Song Yanhua’s operative feigned professionalism, telling Wang Lei that an electrician would arrive shortly and he should simply be prepared.

Meanwhile, Bai Mengqi had returned to the outside of the neighborhood, her eyes constantly scanning her surroundings.

Suddenly, her gaze fell upon the car parked in the secluded area.

‘Ability users? Acting so furtively. Damn it, Old Wang,’ she thought.

The moment Bai Mengqi saw the car, her heart sank, and a wave of regret washed over her.

She felt that ever since she met Zi Yanran, her intelligence seemed to have been steadily declining.

Her mind wasn’t on herself, but entirely focused on Zi Yanran, making her less thorough in her actions than before.

However, this was only human nature. After all, she was a person with emotions and desires, and it was inevitable to be distracted by someone she cared about and matters that held significance.

She had overlooked a crucial issue: she had exposed her identity as an ability user and involved herself in a commercial dispute. Would the opposing party seek revenge?
