Chapter 66: A Flight Above Tokyo and a Hidden Truth

After their conversation with the others concluded, everyone resumed their daily tasks, acting as if nothing out of the ordinary had transpired.

Upon returning to her room, Zi Yanran felt a slight heaviness in her heart, but she swiftly cast the emotion aside.

She understood that in a world teeming with ability users, succumbing to excessive emotion would only render her vulnerable.

Just then, Bai Mengqi emerged from the bathroom, adorned in the pristine, snow-white dress Zi Yanran had personally selected for her.

The dress’s exquisite tailoring perfectly accentuated her graceful figure, and its hem swayed gently with each step, evoking the image of a blossoming white lotus.

Her long hair was casually tied up, with a few strands falling by her cheeks, adding a touch of softness to her appearance.

“It seems my previous warning to you was correct. You’ve intentionally been wary of Zhou Xiaodie, haven’t you?”

Bai Mengqi watched Zi Yanran with a half-smile, all while drying her damp, long hair with a towel.

Zi Yanran’s eyes lit up upon seeing Bai Mengqi in the dress, instantly casting her worries aside.

Bai Mengqi must have overheard their conversation outside. She maintained a constant state of vigilance, knowing that any oversight could lead to fatal consequences.

“No, I’m wary of everyone except you. The abilities of espers are incredibly diverse; aside from those I can absolutely trust, I can only rely on myself,” Zi Yanran stated calmly.

Bai Mengqi nodded slightly in response, silently agreeing with her sentiment.

In this complex and ever-changing world, trust was indeed a rare commodity.

“I’m really not used to wearing this kind of dress. If an emergency were to happen, this outfit wouldn’t be practical for movement.”

Bai Mengqi gently twirled, the skirt of her dress gracefully dancing with her.

Zi Yanran immediately gave her a beautiful, exasperated roll of her eyes.

“Don’t just think about fighting and free movement, alright? You should think about other things too. For instance, how to please your partner. You need to learn a bit. Yesterday, when I just touched you, your reaction was so dramatic. How can that do?”

At the mention of yesterday’s events, Bai Mengqi’s face flushed crimson.

“How can that be the same?” she retorted, utterly mortified. “Anyone’s first time would be uncomfortable, wouldn’t it? It’s really ticklish.”

Seeing Bai Mengqi’s shy expression, a mischievous smile crept onto Zi Yanran’s face.

“Is that so? Didn’t you say that after I was controlled by the fox demon back then, I thoroughly ‘ravaged’ you? Could it be that I didn’t touch your private parts?”

As Zi Yanran spoke, she moved closer to Bai Mengqi, gently resting a hand on her shoulder, her face alight with an ambiguous smile.

At this, Bai Mengqi trembled slightly.

The memory of that night brought an unspeakable look to her face.

At the time, she felt like a man wearing women’s clothes—a woman on the outside, but a man on the inside.

That awkward and contradictory feeling remained unforgettable even now.

“Don’t bring up that night again. I’ve already forgotten,” Bai Mengqi asserted, forcing a calm demeanor. Yet, her voice quivered slightly, betraying her inner turmoil.

This was also one of the reasons for the slight trepidation she felt towards Zi Yanran.

This feeling of trepidation was a complex emotion, not true fear, but rather a sense of awe.

It was akin to a strong husband who was ‘afraid’ of his wife, not out of genuine fear, but out of respect and affection for her.

“Oh, really? You forgot? Go look in a mirror. Your face is as red as a monkey’s backside,” Zi Yanran teased, observing Bai Mengqi’s contradictory words.

Without needing a mirror, Bai Mengqi could feel her cheeks burning hot.

Of course, Zi Yanran had no intention of deepening their relationship with Bai Mengqi further that night.

Many things required the right atmosphere, and clearly, the current setting was not suitable.

Moreover, she knew Bai Mengqi had a traditional personality and would need more time to accept and adapt to such intimacy.

Meanwhile, Zhou Xiaodie had arrived at an ancient Japanese building.

She strolled inside, where she found a middle-aged man seated.

The man wore a traditional kimono, his face composed, his gaze sharp, as if he could see into one’s very soul.

Upon seeing him, Zhou Xiaodie immediately bowed respectfully and greeted him in fluent Japanese: “Mr. Miura, long time no see.”

Miura, the middle-aged man, glanced at Zhou Xiaodie and returned the greeting in Japanese: “Miss Dieyi, congratulations on completing the organization’s mission. You may rejoin the team.”

Zhou Xiaodie inwardly breathed a sigh of relief.

She knew her mission had not been easy, but fortunately, it had ultimately been successful.

She took out the USB drive she held and handed it to Mr. Miura.

“Mr. Miura, the data is on this USB drive, but it lacks the decryption key. I couldn’t obtain the key from Zi Yanran, so the organization will have to find a way,” Zhou Xiaodie explained.

Miura took the USB drive and smiled confidently.

“A mere commercial-grade protection key is nothing in our hands. Miss Mikoto, please come and crack this USB drive’s defenses.”

After he called out, a woman named Mikoto entered from a side room.

She, too, wore a kimono, her face delicate, and she carried a laptop.

She sat before Zhou Xiaodie and Miura, plugged in the USB drive, and began the cracking process.

Her speed was impressive; as Miura had said, this password posed no challenge to them.

Before long, the password was successfully breached.

However, when they examined the contents of the USB drive, they found it completely empty.

“This? Mr. Miura, there’s nothing inside,” Mikoto exclaimed, momentarily stunned.

Her words startled both Zhou Xiaodie and Miura simultaneously.

Zhou Xiaodie, in particular, reacted with the greatest shock, staring at Mr. Miura in disbelief, as if to ask, “How is this possible?”

Miura, after glancing at the empty USB drive, merely allowed his expression to darken for a moment.

He quickly regained his composure, sighing helplessly.

“Nothing is impossible, Miss Dieyi. You are not Zi Yanran’s true confidante after all. Only she and a select few know where she truly hides the data.”

Zhou Xiaodie immediately felt an overwhelming sense of frustration.

“Have my years of undercover work all been in vain?”

Her voice was filled with disappointment and resentment.

Miura did not blame Zhou Xiaodie. The fact that she could retrieve the USB drive under such airtight security indicated that her true identity had not been suspected.

Not obtaining the correct data merely showed how cunning the other party was.

“Alright, returning to Xia Nation is no longer an option. Stay in Japan and rest assured.”

Miura said no more, simply patting Zhou Xiaodie gently on the shoulder as a gesture of comfort.

On the other side, Zi Yanran changed into a red dress after her shower.

The dress, as vibrant and fiery as a flame, enhanced the fairness and delicacy of her skin.

She stood before the mirror, admiring her attire with satisfaction, then called for Liang Qiuyu.

“Captain Liang, Mengqi and I are going out for a stroll tonight. Please pretend that I am still in the room,” Zi Yanran said with a smile, as if chatting with an old friend.

Liang Qiuyu was taken aback, but recalling Bai Mengqi’s elusive nature, she didn’t press further.

She merely reminded Zi Yanran and Bai Mengqi to return early, as safety remained their top priority.

After saying their goodbyes, Zi Yanran and Bai Mengqi returned to their room.

They approached the window, gazing out at the night scenery, their hearts filled with anticipation and excitement.

“This is my first time flying, you know. Be steady, don’t scare me,” Zi Yanran said, her voice tinged with nervousness as she looked out at the night.

A slight tremor laced her words, but excitement and curiosity were more dominant.

Indeed, she and Bai Mengqi intended to go out to clear their minds; the experiences of the past few days had been truly exhausting.

Bai Mengqi chuckled confidently. “Don’t worry, nothing will go wrong.”

With that, she stood in front of Zi Yanran, turning her back and bending down.

Zi Yanran unhesitatingly wrapped her arms around Bai Mengqi’s neck, leaning her full weight onto her.

Bai Mengqi took a deep breath, then abruptly stood up, soaring out of the window with Zi Yanran on her back.

With Bai Mengqi’s current strength, sustained flight for about half an hour posed no problem.

The moment they exited the window, the high-altitude currents immediately made Zi Yanran instinctively close her eyes.

She clung tightly to Bai Mengqi’s neck, feeling the wind whistle past her ears.

Bai Mengqi, meanwhile, ran through the air with Zi Yanran on her back.

This was the flying method of a Qi Condensation cultivator, known as ‘treading the void’.

Had they possessed magic treasures, they could have ridden them through the sky.

Upon reaching Foundation Establishment, one could ride the wind and roam the nine heavens.

“Are… are we in the sky already?” Zi Yanran asked faintly, her eyes still closed.

Her voice held a mix of disbelief and pleasant surprise.

Bai Mengqi giggled. “Don’t be scared. Open your eyes. Tokyo’s nightscape is truly beautiful.”

Under Bai Mengqi’s soothing words, Zi Yanran slowly opened her eyes. The moment she did, she found the dazzling, vibrant city of Tokyo spread out beneath her feet.

The two of them were ‘running’ through the sky above Tokyo, as if the entire world lay at their command.

This sensation made Zi Yanran want to scream at the top of her lungs. She opened her mouth wide, but only a faint gasp escaped.

“I… Mengqi… I want to scream… can I?”

Her lips trembled, and her eyes sparkled with excitement.

Bai Mengqi nodded, smiling. “Go ahead and scream. Even if someone hears it, they won’t be able to see us.”

Granted Bai Mengqi’s permission, the next moment, a high-pitched, sky-shattering woman’s scream began to echo through the night.

“Ah… I’m actually flying in the air! This is too thrilling! Ah…”

The scream was filled with excitement and joy, as if releasing all her happiness.

For ordinary people, flying was an ability only mythical immortals possessed.

Today, however, Zi Yanran was experiencing this legendary sensation firsthand.

In truth, the legendary immortals were cultivators who had reached the Golden Core stage or above.

They could ride magic treasures, harness the wind, and journey through the nine heavens and ten earths.

While Bai Mengqi had not yet reached that realm, they had already taken the first step in cultivation, being only a single step away from the Foundation Establishment stage.

After flying through the night sky for a long time, Zi Yanran and Bai Mengqi finally descended slowly to the ground.

They found a secluded corner, where they concealed their ability aura, blending seamlessly into the night.

“That was truly exhilarating!” Zi Yanran exclaimed, patting her chest.

A flush of excitement still lingered on her face.

“I never imagined I would one day be able to fly in the sky.”

Bai Mengqi smiled at her, her eyes filled with doting affection.

“You’ll have this ability someday too.”

Zi Yanran looked forward to that day. They had landed in Tokyo’s most bustling commercial and entertainment district.

This was where their true ‘two-person world’ would begin.
