Chapter 82: The Ghost Town’s Demise and a New Mission

A few days later, a taxi slowly pulled up to the entrance of a luxurious hotel in the heart of Tokyo.

As the door opened, two women of remarkable elegance stepped out, accompanied by a pet dog with lustrous fur and intelligent eyes.

These were none other than Bai Mengqi and Zi Yanran, who had concluded their journey to Mount Fuji and had since been touring various other locations, along with their newly acquired pet, Canine God.

Having had their fill of sightseeing, they had returned to Tokyo.

After days of continuous travel, both women wore expressions of relaxed joy, though a faint hint of weariness was evident on Zi Yanran’s face.

As an ordinary person, she simply didn’t possess Bai Mengqi’s exceptional stamina and energy. Exhaustion was inevitable, yet she had thoroughly enjoyed herself.

Upon their return to their home country, such carefree days would once again become a distant memory.

Truthfully, over the past few days, she had suddenly yearned to shed the heavy burden of her company and spend every day with Bai Mengqi, exploring new places together.

Yet, while the idea was beautiful, reality remained stark.

Her rationality told her that such a life would be detrimental, stripping both herself and Bai Mengqi of their individual paths. Though seemingly enjoyable, constant companionship would surely lead to monotony.

Moreover, the company was her father’s lifelong work; she couldn’t be so selfish.

Her children were still young, after all.

Thus, she could only cherish these fleeting days.

The two exchanged a smile, then entered the hotel lobby hand in hand.

The front desk attendant politely handed them the keys to their pre-booked room, and they were led by another staff member to their floor.

The room was located on a high floor of the hotel, offering an expansive view that overlooked the bustling cityscape of Tokyo.

Upon entering, Zi Yanran eagerly flopped onto the seemingly soft and comfortable king-sized bed, collapsing onto it with a weary sigh of contentment.

“Ah! I’m exhausted, but I’ve had my fill of fun. It’s been so long since I’ve played so freely.”

Bai Mengqi, on the other hand, felt no fatigue whatsoever. She could no longer truly be considered human.

She walked to the window, gazing at the vibrant city outside as she murmured, “Are you already spent? Once we return home, you won’t be able to relax like this.”

Canine God obediently lay in a corner by the door. His injuries had already been healed by Bai Mengqi’s spiritual power, and his future task was to guard Zi Yanran.

Of course, Bai Mengqi had also promised to help Canine God continue to grow, though certainly not at this moment.

“So what? After we go back, I’ll flirt with my female secretary during the day and continue teasing her at night. Doesn’t that sound amazing?” Zi Yanran quipped.

Bai Mengqi was speechless. She let out a soft sigh and turned to Zi Yanran.

“Alright, you win. I have something to do. You, go get some good rest. I’m heading out to retrieve my things from the outskirts first.”

Zi Yanran lazily rolled over, waving a hand at Bai Mengqi. “Go on, go on. I hope you’ll be back by the time I wake up.”

Bai Mengqi offered a helpless smile, walked over to Canine God, and gently patted its head. “Canine God, look after Sister Yanran well. I’ll be back soon.”

Canine God immediately barked twice, a clear response.

In truth, a question had been lingering in Canine God’s mind for the past few days: what was the true relationship between Bai Mengqi and Zi Yanran?

Though they referred to each other as sisters, their undeniable intimacy always reminded him of his own days with his little female companion.

Having arranged everything, Bai Mengqi walked to the window and lightly leaped, soaring out as gracefully as a feather.

At her current speed, reaching the ghost town on the outskirts of Tokyo would take merely a few minutes.

Flying above the city, Bai Mengqi now felt a profound sense of control over everything.

Such immense power can easily cause one to gradually lose their humanity.

This ‘humanity’ doesn’t imply becoming emotionless, but rather a gradual detachment from seeing oneself as kin to others.

In fact, most ability users do not perceive themselves as ordinary humans, owing to the vast disparity between them and regular people.

The gap between cultivators and ordinary humans was even greater.

Bai Mengqi swiftly arrived above the ghost town.

Her eyes flashed with golden light as she stared down at the eerie, shadow-shrouded town below.

Having suffered a setback here last time, she was determined to reclaim her dominance today.

Without hesitation, she raised her hand, summoning her wooden sword.

As a surge of spiritual power flowed into the wooden sword, she pointed it towards the sky.

“Lightning, descend!”

The next moment, dark clouds rapidly gathered, completely shrouding the core area where the female ghost resided.

Lightning crackled and rumbled within the clouds, threatening to unleash a violent storm at any moment.

Inside her house, the female ghost’s expression changed instantly upon sensing the commotion outside.

She immediately reverted to her true form, merging with the town itself.

A torrent of hair erupted from within the town, forming the eerie, terrifying ghostly face of the female ghost.

She recognized Bai Mengqi at once, a bewildered expression on her face. She sensed that Bai Mengqi had grown significantly stronger compared to a few days prior.

“It’s you?” the female ghost asked, a mixture of shock and fury in her voice, as she felt the immense power.

“Heh, indeed, it is I. You won’t be so fortunate today as you were last time,” Bai Mengqi said coldly.

Her voice echoed through the sky, carrying an undeniable authority.

The next instant, the thunderclouds erupted. A massive surge of electricity converged upon Bai Mengqi’s wooden sword, shimmering with dazzling light. Guided by the sword, she pointed it towards the ghost town below.

“Thunder Art: Nine Heavens Lightning Descent!”

Accompanied by a deafening boom, a colossal golden lightning bolt, like a divine judgment, struck down towards the female ghost.

This golden lightning carried destructive power that caused the very heavens and earth to pale.

Feeling the might of the descending lightning, the female ghost’s face instantly contorted with fear and despair.

She struggled with all her might, desperate to escape this domain of death.

However, in the face of absolute power, all her efforts proved futile.

“No! My revenge is not yet complete; I cannot die like this!” Seeing that she couldn’t evade it, the female ghost’s resentment soared, and she charged towards the lightning with countless strands of hair, attempting to block the strike.

Yet, before the lightning art that suppressed her, these strands of hair were like mere paper, instantly annihilated without a trace.

“Ah…”

Finally, amidst the female ghost’s screams, the golden lightning struck directly onto that house.

Centered on the house, a violent energy blast spread outwards, engulfing the entire small town.

In an instant, the town was leveled, with only a few shapeless structures visible on its periphery.

The area of the haunted house where the female ghost resided was reduced to a crater dozens of meters in diameter.

Last time, the female ghost could still contend with Bai Mengqi; this time, she had absolutely no chance.

After dispatching the female ghost, Bai Mengqi immediately closed her eyes to sense the surroundings, and only after confirming the female ghost had completely vanished did she fly to the location of the crater.

Her divine sense swept through the area, extracting a purplish-black crystal from the earth.

This crystal was precisely a severely corrupted fragment of an Immortal Crystal, heavily entwined with dense resentment that even Bai Mengqi couldn’t immediately dispel.

“It’s even more corrupted than I imagined, Great Immortaless. Can you purify it?” Bai Mengqi asked, her brows deeply furrowed.

After sensing it for a moment, Great Immortaless replied, “It will take some time. For now, it cannot be directly absorbed, or you will also absorb the female ghost’s resentment. While the impact wouldn’t be significant, it’s still not ideal. I suggest you visit the Shinobi Clan and find Kikyo; her power is perfectly suited to purify this object.”

Upon hearing Great Immortaless’s suggestion, Bai Mengqi didn’t hesitate. She immediately ascended into the sky, returning to Tokyo city at an incredibly fast pace.

Not long after she departed, ability users from within Tokyo city rushed over, gathering outside the ghost town.

They stared in shock at the desolate ruins before them, discussing in disbelief, “What? The ghost town has been destroyed?”

“Who did this? Who possesses such power?” These Japanese ability users were filled with astonishment.

They knew that no matter who was responsible, Tokyo was likely to face another upheaval, for they were well aware that this ghost town had been deliberately left untouched; otherwise, it would have been destroyed long ago.

Meanwhile, within the Shinobi Clan, the miko Kikyo sat quietly by a window.

She looked in the direction of the ghost town, her gaze deep and solemn, as if she could directly perceive the events unfolding there.

The moment the town dissipated, she had already sensed it.

“Indeed, you are the one I have been waiting for,” Kikyo said softly.

A hint of imperceptible excitement laced her voice.

“The time has come to confront these evil spirits possessing the people of Japan.”
