Chapter 107: The Yao Family’s Trial and Bai Mengqi’s Immortal Arts

First, Bai Mengqi already had a son and a daughter. In the future, they would undoubtedly find their own partners. But what about her? Four hundred years from now, how many descendants would she have? The sheer number was beyond Bai Mengqi’s imagination.

Had she not had descendants, such thoughts wouldn’t have plagued her, but now, considering her future, she was compelled to contemplate them.

She couldn’t guarantee she would remain on Earth indefinitely. Given the opportunity, or the requisite power, she would most likely depart for the cultivation civilization where the Great Immortaless resided.

Only by venturing there could she truly advance her cultivation.

Soon after, Bai Mengqi followed them, arriving at the Yao family’s training grounds. This expansive area resembled an ancient Roman coliseum, featuring a central clearing the size of a football field, encircled by tiered spectator stands.

This was where the Yao family disciples typically trained, and it also served as the venue for their grand annual gathering.

This yearly event was specifically held to assess the juniors’ cultivation progress over the past year.

Ancient families like the Yao clan adhered to numerous strict rules. While the family possessed vast resources, these were not freely distributed. To sustain such a large clan, only the fittest could thrive.

Beyond relocating disciples without cultivation aptitude, the Yao family conducted an assessment every three years.

They maintained a strict standard: any junior who failed, along with their Yao family kin, would be required to move out and live independently. They would, however, be provided with a sum of money.

These relocated branches would not have their memories erased. Should an outstanding talent emerge from their lineage in the future, they would be welcomed back into the main clan.

In less than half an hour, every member of the Yao family still residing in the clan had gathered at the training grounds.

Bai Mengqi also arrived at the training grounds, led by Elder Yao. They ascended to a high platform, gazing upon the magnificent spectacle below.

“Miss Bai, please, have a seat.” Upon their arrival, Elder Yao immediately gestured for Bai Mengqi to sit down.

The other high-ranking members of the Yao family also took their seats. Despite the multitude of people in the training grounds, very little noise could be heard.

The Yao family members only dared to whisper amongst themselves.

“Look, on the main platform, there’s a young girl sitting there! She appears to be only in her teens. Who is she to be sitting with our clan head?” Many Yao family disciples grew curious about Bai Mengqi’s identity.

“Who knows,” another Yao family disciple remarked, “but she’s definitely not an ordinary person. The clan head and family master probably gathered everyone specifically for her.”

After scanning the clan members around him, the Yao family head turned his gaze towards Bai Mengqi and Elder Yao.

“Second Uncle, Miss Bai, what would you like to see, if I may ask?”

Elder Yao, in turn, fixed his gaze upon Bai Mengqi.

Bai Mengqi hadn’t anticipated such an elaborate display simply because she wished to observe the Yao family. Now, she could only fully immerse herself in the experience.

“Hmm, Elder Yao, your cultivation is too low to discern much. Perhaps I should personally step onto the field and spar with a few of the Yao family seniors?” Bai Mengqi suggested with a smile.

She disliked merely watching; she preferred to take action herself.

These words perfectly aligned with the desires of the Yao family’s high-ranking members.

They, too, were eager to witness the difference between a legendary immortal cultivator and themselves.

“Excellent! Since Miss Bai is so inclined, I would be honored to learn from you.” Yao Yuan, the youngest S-rank ability user in the Yao family, volunteered himself.

He was approximately at the early S-rank stage, having only recently entered it, and was in his sixties this year.

Compared to the others, he was considered young, his appearance suggesting he was no more than in his forties.

Ability users experienced a slower rate of aging than ordinary people. Thus, while the Yao family head and others were actually in their seventies or eighties, they appeared to be only in their forties or fifties.

Elder Yao, however, was indeed very old, over a hundred, and could no longer maintain a youthful appearance.

“Very well, let’s have a match then.” With these words, Bai Mengqi suddenly ascended, soaring towards the center of the arena.

Her sudden flight left the surrounding Yao family members utterly dumbfounded.

“Good heavens, she can fly? This… isn’t this an ability only possessed by S-rank ability users and above? And she flies so effortlessly, like an immortal from a movie! This isn’t the flight ability of an A-rank ability user!”

The Yao family disciples erupted in excitement.

Yao Yuan followed closely, but his method of flight was distinctly different from Bai Mengqi’s. A faint golden light enveloped his body, as if he were being buoyed by this energy.

Bai Mengqi’s flight, however, offered no discernible mechanism for her levitation. It was as if she rode the very air, an ability known as wind manipulation flight.

After both landed, the Yao family head finally rose and explained the situation to the crowd.

“Esteemed clan members, today, a distinguished guest has graced our Yao family. You must all commit the visage of this honored guest to memory, lest you inadvertently offend her outside the clan in the future.”

These words once again sent a ripple of excitement through the entire clan. To be treated with such reverence by the Yao family, and to possess such power, she had to be at least an S-rank ability user.

“Such a young S-rank powerhouse? I can barely believe it.”

“That might not be true. Many S-rank ability users possess some ability to preserve their youth. She might be an old woman, for all we know.”

The Yao family members began speculating about Bai Mengqi’s identity once more.

However, Yao Ze and his paternal uncles, seated in the western spectator section, immediately interrupted the guesses of their brothers and uncles.

“Stop guessing, everyone. My master is actually younger than I am.”

Yao Ze declared.

His words were astonishing. Many present had never met Bai Mengqi, so upon hearing Yao Ze’s statement, they were utterly stunned.

“Your master? Younger than you? So she’s only in her early twenties? Yao Ze, you’re not joking, are you?” A young man, a peer of Yao Ze, was visibly shocked.

Yao Ze was about to explain but was immediately stopped by his father.

“Xiao Ze, don’t speak carelessly.”

Yao Ze immediately gave an awkward smile, remembering the elders’ earlier instructions not to casually reveal Bai Mengqi’s identity.

“Don’t ask too many questions either; you’ll naturally find out in due time.”

“Are you all fools? If you ask, you’ll be told when the time is right. The identity of this honored guest, and this battle today, will surely be unforgettable. Do not lose focus!” A middle-aged man reminded them.

Thus, those filled with questions could only fall silent.

Meanwhile, the battle between Bai Mengqi and Yao Yuan was about to begin.

“Senior Yao Yuan, how shall we spar?” Bai Mengqi asked with a smile.

“I dare not be called senior. I have no other requests, Miss Bai, other than to witness your immortal arts,” Yao Yuan stated, his gaze sharp.

Bai Mengqi nodded. Since her opponent had a request, she naturally had to fulfill it.

“Very well, then, Senior Yao Yuan, please also demonstrate the techniques passed down in the Yao family, so I may witness them,” Bai Mengqi said with a smile.

As this was a friendly exchange, it wouldn’t be right for only Bai Mengqi to display her signature abilities.

“Haha, rest assured, the technique I cultivate is called the ‘Cloud-Flipping Hand.’ Miss Bai, please enlighten me.” Yao Yuan struck a stance, and with a wave of his hands, a vast amount of white mist billowed forth.

The white mist grew increasingly dense, resembling natural white clouds, floating around Yao Yuan’s body.

This was one of the Yao family’s ultimate techniques, rarely seen in public.

“It seems Father is serious; he’s using his signature technique right from the start!” Yao Yuan’s children exclaimed excitedly.

In this era, battles between S-rank ability users were exceedingly rare. Even during the annual gathering, confrontations between S-rank powerhouses seldom occurred. At most, there would be sparring matches between A-rank ability users.

“Indeed, it has some profound aspects. Then, this junior will also show a hand. Senior Yao Yuan, please be careful!”

After issuing a warning, Bai Mengqi formed hand seals. A vast amount of mist emanated from her, gathering above the arena to form a massive dark cloud.

Lightning began to converge within the dark cloud.

“Lightning Art: Nine Heavens Thunderfall.”

As Bai Mengqi completed her hand seals, golden light ignited in her eyes. Immediately, a bolt of lightning violently struck down from the dark cloud, hurtling towards Yao Yuan.

“This?” Yao Yuan was stunned. He hastily pushed out a cloud of mist that surged forward, striking the lightning and neutralizing the attack.

However, Bai Mengqi’s move was not as simple as a single bolt of lightning.

She pursed her lips into a smile, and from the dark cloud, one bolt of lightning after another began to descend.

Yao Yuan was utterly unable to disperse all the lightning. He could only continuously dodge the falling bolts, being chased frantically across the arena.

The scene resembled heavenly thunder pursuing a villain. The lightning strikes were incredibly fast and powerful; each bolt carved a crater into the ground.

“This, this, this… is this lightning art?” Many had seen lightning art before, but never anything on the scale of Bai Mengqi’s. Currently, the most formidable lightning art belonged to the Daoist Celestial Master’s Mansion, but even their techniques were nowhere near this magnitude.

“As expected of legendary immortal arts! Compared to them, the Daoist lightning arts are like heaven and earth. It seems this young man, Yao Yuan, is about to suffer a setback.”

Elder Yao and the others’ eyes immediately lit up.

Yao Yuan was forced to take a direct hit, his entire body smoking from the electricity. Thankfully, most of the power had been neutralized by his protective energy. This strike, at most, only left him in a rather disheveled state.

“Eh? Dad!” Yao Yuan’s children exclaimed in alarm.

This was the first time in many years they had seen their father in such a predicament during a fight.

“What are you shouting about? I’m fine!” Upon hearing their voices, Yao Yuan immediately roared back at his children in exasperation.

Bai Mengqi did not continue to maintain the lightning art. In sparring, one knew when to stop.

She hadn’t even used her full strength; otherwise, if Yao Yuan had taken her heavenly thunder attack, he would have sustained severe injuries, even if he hadn’t been electrocuted to death.

“Senior Yao Yuan, you mustn’t hold back,” Bai Mengqi reminded him.

Yao Yuan was momentarily at a loss whether to laugh or cry.

“My techniques don’t possess the same might as yours, Miss Bai.” With that, his eyes changed, and simultaneously, he raised his hands. Immediately, a vast amount of mist erupted from his body, spreading in all directions.

“Miss Bai, this is the most powerful strike of my Cloud-Flipping Hand: Cloud Dragon Spits Mist.”

As Yao Yuan spoke, the mist he released rapidly condensed behind him, forming a colossal white dragon.

The power of this attack had certainly reached the S-rank level.

“Come, let me test its might!” Bai Mengqi said with a smile.

The cloud dragon immediately stirred up a massive amount of mist and roared towards Bai Mengqi. The mist obscured Bai Mengqi’s vision, preventing her from locking onto Yao Yuan’s form.

This move even interfered with her divine sense.

The cloud dragon slammed heavily into Bai Mengqi. In an instant, Bai Mengqi raised her hand and unleashed a palm strike.

The magical energy palm print shattered the cloud dragon’s head on the spot. However, the cloud dragon quickly reformed, swinging its tail in a ‘divine dragon swings its tail’ maneuver towards Bai Mengqi.

Because the mist had completely enveloped Bai Mengqi from all directions, the cloud dragon’s attacks could emerge from any corner.

The dragon’s tail whipped from behind her, but it struck Bai Mengqi’s protective magical energy and was repelled.

“As expected of an ancient clan, their techniques are indeed formidable,” Bai Mengqi couldn’t help but praise her opponent.

“Thank you for the compliment, Miss Bai. If you have a way to break this move, please don’t hesitate. Just break it, and it will also let me know where the flaws in my technique lie.” Yao Yuan’s voice echoed from all directions.

Bai Mengqi parried the cloud dragon’s attacks, which kept darting out of the mist, all while contemplating a solution.

“Alright, then I won’t hold back!” Bai Mengqi had found a way.

Just as the mist completely engulfed her, “Wind Sweeps Scattered Clouds!” Bai Mengqi’s voice resonated from within the mist.

Immediately, the mist in the arena seemed to be drawn by some unseen force, rapidly converging towards Bai Mengqi’s location, forming a swirling cloud vortex.

The terrifying suction made some of the surrounding Yao family disciples feel unsteady in their seats.
