“The seventh blood draw has failed. Seal the experimental equipment.”
Xi Yu kept his eyes closed, yet everything around him manifested in his mind.
Despite the many incredible experiences he had undergone, he was still shaken.
He had been reborn.
He had returned to the moment he first transmigrated into the body of the five-clawed white dragon.
And he was absolutely certain that this was not a nightmare.
At this moment, his soul had not yet fully fused with the white dragon, so he was still unable to control its body.
The dragon’s soul had vanished long before he arrived, leaving behind only an empty shell until his soul’s infusion breathed life into it once more.
His current situation was dire.
His body was bound by seven massive iron chains, and outside those lay a colossal alloy cage.
After the routine sampling failed, a group of researchers in white coats were forced to leave in a state of frantic helplessness, dragging their equipment along with them.
Just like in his previous life, the white dragon was nothing more than a corpse to them; though it was locked up, no one remained on guard.
Thus, despite being right before their eyes, no one realized he had already come ‘alive.’
Of course, this was also because the dragon’s physical body had not yet fully awakened.
Xi Yu’s mind was in a bit of a whirl; he didn’t understand how this had happened.
‘I clearly escaped that lethal pursuit, so how did I end up being reborn?’
But he didn’t dwell on it for long.
He had suffered greatly in his previous life, and though starting over wouldn’t erase those hardships from his memory, he finally had the chance to make up for his past regrets.
Most importantly, he knew that in this life, he could fully trust his country.
After transmigrating into the white dragon in his past life, he had been plagued by worries, believing that everyone in the world wanted to capture and dissect him.
However, after enduring numerous trials, he became absolutely certain that no matter the circumstances, he could always trust his motherland.
Therefore, in this life, he would never be forced to remain forever alone like he was before.
He was currently imprisoned in a base of the Drance Federation—one of the last six major powers in the world—built upon the ruins of the nation of Jiao’an.
Jiao’an had once been a small coastal nation bordering the Middle Continent, where he originated and which was also one of the last six powers; now, however, it had become a playground for anomalies and spectral entities.
Twenty-one years ago, the catastrophe descended.
An otherworldly battleship, while fleeing, crashed through a dimensional rift and landed on Kun Star, bringing war and disaster along with it.
From that day forward, Zerg, monsters, and ghosts were everywhere on Kun Star.
The survivors on the otherworldly battleship came from a dimensional world called the Ogaso Empire.
Although they had brought endless calamity to the entire world, they compensated by contributing the supernatural knowledge and technology of their world.
This allowed Kun Star to barely hold its own against various horrific invasions, though small nations like Jiao’an perished during the first wave of the disaster.
Following that, the situation on Kun Star underwent earth-shattering changes.
The vast majority of small nations either ceased to exist or saw their strength and territories drastically reduced.
Although the six major powers were also heavily hit, the gap between them and the others only continued to widen.
The Drance Federation, where the Ogaso survivors had landed, stood out the most.
It cooperated most closely with the Ogaso people and reaped the greatest benefits.
This allowed the power of the Drance Federation to gradually begin surpassing other nations, and they even had the surplus energy to establish bases all over the world.
The base in Jiao’an had expanded to become the Drance Federation’s largest worldwide since the cataclysm.
Xi Yu was safe for the time being.
Despite the Drance Federation’s desire to conduct various studies on the white dragon’s corpse, this was not their home territory, and the instruments currently at this base were insufficient to breach the dragon’s defenses.
However, it was hard to say what would happen next.
In a few days, a super sky-battleship from the Drance Federation would arrive to transport the dragon’s remains back to their homeland; with more advanced instruments there, the dragon’s body might not be able to withstand them.
However, in his previous life, the Realm Guards of the Middle Continent had launched a sudden, large-scale assault on this Drance Federation base, allowing him to take the opportunity to escape.
He didn’t know how the Middle Continent had discovered this place back then, nor why they had resolved to confront the Drance Federation head-on to wipe out this crucial base.
Yet, it was precisely because of this opportunity that his ignorant past self had been able to gain freedom.
Even now, just thinking about it caused Xi Yu’s heart to throb with anxiety.
That experience had cast a long shadow over his heart.
After his escape, he never dared to trust anyone again and spent the rest of his time struggling alone in a terrifying and eerie world.
Aside from the constant fear and the need to evade various pursuits, what he felt most was endless loneliness.
No matter the situation, he could only rely on himself, without even a single person to talk to.
Just then, a strange sensation flooded Xi Yu’s heart.
In an instant, his consciousness began to grow numb and chaotic, while an unbearable surge of madness erupted deep within his soul.
“It’s starting.”
Xi Yu, however, was already prepared.
Transmigrating into a white dragon did not come without a price.
Even having lived through one lifetime already, Xi Yu still didn’t understand what exactly the five-clawed white dragon signified.
But he was very aware of just how terrifying it was.
The white dragon was the strongest being he had ever encountered; at one point, he even suspected that the dragon’s true form was on par with the Sequence Lords who stood at the peak of the food chain.
Of course, this applied only to the dragon itself, not him.
Though the white dragon’s soul had long been extinguished, its body still possessed its most primal instincts.
After his soul entered the dragon’s body, not only was his life extended, but the dragon’s body also ‘came alive.’
In his previous life, Xi Yu’s soul was far too weak for the dragon when he first arrived, making it impossible to control.
As soon as he finished merging with the body, he was overwhelmed by its instincts.
Subsequently, the white dragon lost control.
The revived dragon easily broke the shackles binding it and threw the entire base into absolute chaos, nearly managing to escape.
However, the dragon possessed no true intelligence; it was merely venting the primal draconic nature within itself, unaware of how to flee from the site.
Since its prison was deep underground and incredibly vast, the dragon remained trapped after its instinctive outburst subsided.
Yet, it was this eruption that allowed Xi Yu, upon regaining control of the body, to absorb a fragment of bloodline memory, teaching him how to transform into a human.
Taking advantage of the chaos, he shifted into human form and hid in a secluded corner of the base.
The Drance Federation was stunned.
They never imagined that the dragon could not only return from the dead but also transform into a person; they assumed that after wreaking havoc on the base, it had used legendary supernatural powers to fly away long ago.
This allowed Xi Yu to successfully hide for several days until the Middle Continent Realm Guards arrived.
It was then that Xi Yu realized that if he were ever completely controlled by the dragon’s primal instincts, his soul would be entirely devoured, and he would truly die.
At that point, the white dragon would truly and completely be resurrected.
The dimensional rift twenty years ago brought immense disaster to Kun Star, but it also brought a type of hyper-dimensional energy known as Mutation Particles.
Mutation Particles were the legendary supernatural power of the Kun Star world.
After Xi Yu’s soul entered the dragon’s body, the body began to uncontrollably and actively absorb the Mutation Particles that now permeated the entire world.
This caused the white dragon’s power to begin growing.
But for him, this was by no means a good thing.
As the dragon’s power grew, its draconic instincts naturally recovered faster, making the erosion of his soul even stronger.
Thus, being in the dragon form was actually the most dangerous time for him; only by transforming into a human could he remain safe for a while.
Even before his rebirth, he hadn’t known why that was.
However, when he was in human form, he could not borrow the dragon’s strength, and similarly, the dragon could not absorb Mutation Particles from the outside.
For him, this was a blessing.
During those times, the dragon’s nature would not strengthen rapidly, allowing him to hold out longer and making him safer.
However, regardless of the form, if his life was endangered, the white dragon would immediately spiral out of control.
Because of this, he was always forced to expose his trail in his previous life.
Had the Middle Continent not assisted him multiple times during his most perilous moments, he would have long since succumbed.
Fortune and misfortune go hand in hand, and this had tempered his character and soul with resilience.
Thanks to this, Xi Yu did not lose control immediately upon the first surge of draconic instinct like he did in his previous life; instead, he managed to maintain his clarity for the time being.
This time, he didn’t plan on waiting for the Middle Continent to attack the base three days later before escaping.
Though he hadn’t looked into it deeply, the Middle Continent’s assault on the base in his past life was likely related to the chaos he had caused.
Therefore, the Realm Guards might not appear this time.
While he very much wanted to use this opportunity to return to the Middle Continent, it would likely be a futile effort.
Furthermore, he was now fully capable of escaping on his own, so there was no need for such unnecessary steps.
In his previous life, his greatest fear had always stemmed from the white dragon itself.
However, with the experience of a second life, he knew that even if he allowed himself to lose control, it would take at least five times before the dragon completely devoured his soul.
In other words, he essentially possessed five ‘Get Out of Death Free’ cards.
And since his soul was now far stronger than in his previous life, he could hold out even more times.
As long as he managed things carefully, it would be enough for him to accomplish many tasks.
Xi Yu assessed his current state.
With his current mental strength, he could maintain the white dragon state for over three hours without losing control.
He didn’t plan on escaping the base immediately.
Three hours might be enough to obtain some important information from this place.
At that moment, the white dragon began to actively absorb the surrounding Mutation Particles, causing the vitality of its body to become noticeably apparent.
The erosion of Xi Yu’s soul intensified instantly, causing the pain he felt to increase accordingly.
The only way to alleviate such torment was to allow the draconic nature to be fully vented.
The more he resisted, the stronger the backlash would become.
But Xi Yu didn’t care.
He was actually long accustomed to this kind of pain; as long as he didn’t lose control, he could endure it.
However, he had to hurry.
He could bear the pain, but once he truly lost control, he would lose all awareness, and heaven only knew what the dragon would do then.
Harnessing the white dragon’s power, Xi Yu radiated his perception deep into the base.
Yet, because he had to combat the draconic instincts, the power he could control was limited, forcing him to move and observe bit by bit.
As time ticked by, the rate at which the white dragon absorbed Mutation Particles grew faster and faster, creating a significant disturbance.
It had even begun to alter the surrounding aura, feeling as though the Drance Federation base could discover him at any moment.
Just then, Xi Yu’s spirit jolted.
He had actually discovered an astounding secret—so shocking that his intense emotions momentarily surged past the draconic instincts.
