Chapter 1: The Senior in Room 302

“Senior, where are your clothes?”

At the bathroom door, Gu Mianmian stood frozen, hugging a basin of freshly washed clothes.

Lin Ci froze too.

He looked down at his lower body, wrapped only in a bath towel, then raised his eyes to Gu Mianmian’s face.

The air went quiet.

A few seconds later, Lin Ci fell back on twenty-two years of straight-guy instinct and covered his lower half.

Then a chill hit his chest. His expression changed, and he scrambled to cross both arms over his chest.

“Get out first!”

Gu Mianmian did not move.

Her eyes moved to Lin Ci’s wet hair, then slowly downward, stopping at his shoulders, neck, and collarbone.

Lin Ci’s scalp prickled under her stare. His voice rose.

“Gu Mianmian!”

“S-sorry.”

Gu Mianmian finally lowered her head and backed away in a panic with the laundry basin.

She retreated too fast. Her lower back hit the hallway wall, and several pieces of clothing slid out of the basin, scattering across the floor.

One of them was a bra Lin Ci had just bought.

“…”

Lin Ci was speechless.

Gu Mianmian lowered her head even more.

This life was unlivable.

Lin Ci grabbed the pajamas hanging behind the door and pulled them on haphazardly.

The hoodie reached the top of his thighs and covered most of his figure, but it could not hide the slight curve at his chest.

He glanced down at his chest, face turning green.

Before yesterday, he had been a sunny, cheerful boy who was 182 centimeters tall.

From today on, he was a woman who was 168 centimeters tall, with long black hair, a narrow waist, long legs, and a face that drew attention wherever it went.

If he told anyone, most people would probably tell him to go to the psychiatric ward and get his head checked.

“Senior.”

Gu Mianmian’s voice came from outside the door.

“I picked up all your clothes.”

Lin Ci’s face darkened. He clenched his jaw.

“Just leave them by the door.”

“Okay.”

After that, there was no sound outside.

Lin Ci leaned against the door panel and wiped his face with one hand.

The girl in the mirror was still watching him.

Wet black hair clung to her cheeks, and the corners of her eyes carried a natural coldness.

Before showering, he had wiped the bathroom mirror clean on purpose, wanting to confirm whether he was dreaming.

The facts proved it was not a dream.

The breasts were real.

The waist was real.

Even the small mole on the collarbone was real.

And his little brother being gone was also real.

Lin Ci stared at the mirror, strongly wanting to curse someone out.

Last night, he had stayed in the lab until three in the morning.

Back in the dorm, he fell asleep the moment his head hit the pillow.

When he woke up, two weights that did not belong to a man pressed against his chest, and his pants were absurdly tight.

At first he thought some pervert had kidnapped him.

Until he rushed into the toilet and pulled down his pants.

In that moment, only four words remained in Lin Ci’s head.

‘Heaven wants me dead.’

His phone still had his identity information, and his bank card still worked, but facial recognition flagged him as an unknown user.

Even more ridiculous, in the school’s academic system, his registered s*x had been changed to female by some unknown force.

The university counselor managed hundreds of students alone and did not remember what this invisible engineering guy looked like.

That morning, after seeing the file said female, and with the senior male dorm building under maintenance, the counselor shoved him into Room 302 in the foreign languages female dorm according to the system data.

And his roommate was Gu Mianmian, the least sociable junior in the whole class.

Lin Ci finished dressing and opened the bathroom door.

Gu Mianmian was crouched by the door, folding the clothes on the floor one by one.

She was small and thin.

Her old sweatshirt hung loose on her. The cuffs were washed pale, and thick bangs hung down, covering most of her face.

From this angle, Lin Ci could even see the lower half of her chin.

It was a little too pale.

And that stretch of neck, too.

Hearing the door open, Gu Mianmian’s hands stopped.

“Give them to me.”

Lin Ci held out a hand.

Gu Mianmian did not look up. She silently handed the clothes over.

Their hands touched.

The cool sensation made Lin Ci instinctively grab her wrist.

“Why are your hands so cold?”

Gu Mianmian jerked her head up.

The thick bangs were blown aside a little.

She stared at Lin Ci’s hand around her wrist, and the tips of her ears slowly turned red.

“It’s nothing.”

“Nothing my ass.”

Lin Ci let go and bent down to touch the laundry basin beside her.

The water at the bottom was still cold.

“You wash clothes with cold water?”

Gu Mianmian was silent.

“Doesn’t the dorm have a water heater?”

“It costs money, Senior.”

Lin Ci was stunned.

These days, school dorm hot water was charged by usage. It really was not expensive.

Why would Gu Mianmian skimp on even that?

He suddenly remembered gossip that had gone around the class.

Gu Mianmian had no parents. She had come from an orphanage, and her college tuition depended on grants and part-time work.

She did not like to talk, and her expression was always gloomy. When people asked her something, she only lowered her head.

She basically did not speak with anyone.

Over time, no one wanted to bother with her.

Some even said behind her back that the way she looked at people was scary.

Lin Ci had thought those people were just bored.

Now it seemed the girl really did have it rough. Not only did she not like to talk, she was also poor.

“Don’t use cold water from now on. Use my card and heat some water first.”

Gu Mianmian pressed her lips together.

“Thank you, Senior. I’ll pay you back.”

“Who asked you to pay me back?”

Lin Ci took the clothes from her hands and shoved them straight into the washing machine.

Gu Mianmian panicked and reached out to grab them.

“Senior, those are mine.”

“I know.”

“You don’t have to help me.”

“It’s just a small thing. What help?”

Lin Ci pressed the washing machine’s start button, then dug a towel out of the cabinet and tossed it into her arms.

“Dry your hair quickly. Don’t catch a cold.”

Gu Mianmian did not catch it well. The towel fell onto her knees.

She stared at the towel and froze.

Lin Ci did not notice anything wrong.

He was busy shoving his bra back into the deepest part of the cabinet.

This thing was a public execution of his manhood.

“Senior.”

“Hm?”

“Were you always like this?”

Lin Ci’s hand shook.

“Like what?”

Gu Mianmian raised her eyes to him.

“I mean, are you this good to everyone?”

Lin Ci closed the cabinet door and answered without thinking.

“Not really.”

Gu Mianmian’s eyes dimmed a little.

A second later, Lin Ci added,

“Depends on the person. Someone like you, who looks like she’s about to starve herself to death, can’t be left alone.”

Gu Mianmian said nothing.

She held the towel.

Lin Ci walked to the window and pulled the curtain open.

Sunlight fell into the dorm.

The light made Gu Mianmian squint. She raised a hand to shield her eyes.

Lin Ci turned back to look at her and suddenly thought she was actually quite pretty.

Her features were delicate, her nose bridge lovely, her lips pale.

But she always hid herself behind messy bangs and old clothes, so no one wanted to look twice.

“Hey, your bangs need a trim.”

Gu Mianmian immediately lowered her head.

“No.”

“They’re covering your eyes.”

“No.”

“Fine, no trim then.”

Lin Ci could not be bothered to persuade her. He could barely protect himself right now. What right did he have to manage someone else’s hairstyle?

A while later, Lin Ci’s phone buzzed. He opened it and saw a message from the counselor.

[Lin Ci, the registrar system is being upgraded. Come to the administration building at 2 p.m. to re-register your facial information. Bring your ID card.]

Lin Ci’s expression changed.

ID card?

His current face and the buzz-cut male college student on his ID card were worlds apart.

How was he supposed to fix that?

He could hardly tell the counselor that he had slept and refreshed both his gender and his face, right?

Gu Mianmian sat on the edge of the bed, quietly watching Lin Ci’s expression shift back and forth.

“Senior, is something wrong?”

Lin Ci turned his phone face down on the desk.

“No.”

“But your expression looks bad.”

“Nonsense. I was born like this.”

Gu Mianmian stared at him for a few seconds.

“Are you afraid, Senior?”

Lin Ci laughed.

“Oh? I didn’t know you could read faces.”

“I… I can read people.”

Coming from her mouth, those words somehow sounded a little eerie.

Lin Ci tugged the corner of his mouth.

“So what did you read?”

Gu Mianmian did not answer right away.

Her gaze fell on the slightly damp ends of Lin Ci’s hair.

The milky scent of shampoo drifted through the dorm, not strong, but hard to ignore.

Gu Mianmian lowered her eyes.

“Senior is different from other people.”

Lin Ci’s heart skipped.

Different how?

Had she noticed something?
