Chapter 17: Moonlight White Cheongsam

In the darkness, Lin Ci rolled his eyes and pulled the blanket over his head.

“You just got over being sick. Why are you doing logistics? Forget it, you should rest.”

He muttered from under the blanket.

But he knew he couldn’t keep using menstrual cramps as an excuse. It seemed he had no choice but to go to the evening party.

Gu Mianmian said nothing more. In the darkness, she looked at Lin Ci’s upper bunk, her fingers tightening around the edge of the blanket.

Soon it was Friday afternoon.

Foreign Languages Department activity room.

The heating was on full blast. The air smelled of paper and ink.

Zhou Yan’an pushed up his glasses and slid a printed script in front of Lin Ci, wearing his usual gentle smile.

“Senior Lin Ci, this is the recitation piece I picked with background music. Let’s team up on stage.”

Lin Ci glanced down.

The script was filled with dense lines of lovey-dovey modern poetry.

After reading it, Lin Ci’s stomach churned. He pushed the script back to the center of the table in disgust.

“No need to trouble yourself. I’m used to being on my own. I don’t need a partner. I’ll do a solo recitation.”

Zhou Yan’an paused. His expression clearly faltered, but he quickly regained his composure.

“Senior, a duet recitation has a better effect. Besides, I already reported it to the Youth League Committee. Everyone is looking forward to it.”

Lin Ci lifted his eyes to look at him, his face full of impatience.

“If it’s reported, then change it.”

“I have a bad memory. I can’t coordinate with others. If I forget my lines on stage, we won’t even be friends.”

‘I’m a straight man through and through. Reciting love poems on stage with a guy? Do you think I’m gay? I’d rather run naked around the track field.’

Zhou Yan’an’s face stiffened slightly. He didn’t push further.

Then he took a dust bag from the coat rack and handed it over.

“In that case, I won’t force it.”

“This is the performance outfit the Student Council prepared for you.”

Lin Ci took the dust bag and unzipped it. When he saw what was inside, his face went pale.

A modified cheongsam.

Lin Ci held it up by the collar and measured it against himself.

The hem was absurdly short. At most it would reach three centimeters above the knee.

The collar was buttoned tightly, but the waist was exaggeratedly cinched and the slits on both sides were ridiculously high.

“Is this fabric even meant to be worn outside?”

“This is a torture device. What genius designed this?”

Lin Ci ground his back teeth. His expression was fierce.

Zhou Yan’an explained with a smile.

“This is the standard uniform for Foreign Languages Department girls. Senior, you have a good figure. It’ll definitely look good on you.”

Lin Ci mentally cursed the Student Council’s ancestors for eighteen generations.

If the counselors hadn’t threatened him with comprehensive quality points, he would have thrown the dress in Zhou Yan’an’s face.

He grabbed the dust bag and walked coldly toward the backstage.

The backstage dressing room was noisy, filled with the smell of perfume and hairspray.

As soon as Lin Ci walked in, several junior girls surrounded him.

“Oh my god, Senior Lin Ci, your skin doesn’t even have visible pores.”

One girl held a powder puff, staring at Lin Ci’s face, unsure where to start.

Another junior girl stared at Lin Ci’s waist and swallowed.

“This cheongsam actually looks loose in the waist. Senior, did you grow up eating grass?”

“Senior, your hair is so smooth. Let me put it up for you.”

The junior girls chattered and reached out to touch Lin Ci’s hair.

Lin Ci’s scalp tingled. He shrank back.

‘What the hell! Is this some kind of Spider Cave? I’m a grown man, and I’m about to be groped by a bunch of little girls. This is killing me.’

Just as those hands were about to touch Lin Ci’s hair, a hand cut across and firmly blocked them.

Gu Mianmian stood in front of Lin Ci.

She wore a logistics staff badge on her chest. She took the comb from the junior girl’s hand, her voice cold.

“I’ll help her.”

“No one else needs to touch her.”

Her eyes swept over the surrounding girls.

The junior girls felt a chill down their spines from that gaze and awkwardly withdrew their hands.

“Alright then, we’ll go help others.”

The girls quickly found excuses to slip away.

Watching them walk away, Lin Ci grabbed Gu Mianmian’s sleeve and whispered a scolding.

“Didn’t I tell you to stay in the dorm and rest?”

“You just got over being sick. Why are you running around?”

Gu Mianmian lowered her eyes. Her fingers twisted together, her voice muffled.

“I was worried about you, Senior.”

Seeing her aggrieved look, the scolding caught in Lin Ci’s throat.

“Forget it. You’re already here.”

Lin Ci sighed and patted her shoulder helplessly.

“Thanks for just now. That scene was giving me a headache. Hurry up and help me finish so I can go change.”

Gu Mianmian nodded obediently, but a flicker of satisfaction crossed her eyes.

The dressing room door closed, leaving Lin Ci alone.

He held the cheongsam, grinding his teeth as he started to undress.

The buttons were difficult to undo. He finally managed to put the cheongsam on.

The moment he zipped it up, Lin Ci stood in front of the mirror and froze.

The girl in the mirror had very fair skin.

The cut outlined the curve of her waist and hips, her collarbones exposed.

Lin Ci let out a long breath, but his chest and waist felt tightly bound, making it hard to breathe.

He had to admit, if he were still a man, seeing this in the mirror, he definitely wouldn’t be able to control himself.

Unfortunately, this body was his own.

“Senior, are you changed?”

Gu Mianmian knocked on the door from outside.

Lin Ci pulled the curtain open and walked out.

Because the skirt was too tight, his walk was still a bit stiff.

Outside, Gu Mianmian looked up. Her gaze touched Lin Ci’s face, then slid down his neck to his collarbones, finally resting on his waist.

She lowered her head, fingers digging into her palm, her voice hoarse.

“Beautiful.”

Lin Ci tugged at the hem, awkwardly shifting his thighs.

“Beautiful my ass. A breeze would freeze me solid.”

“Let’s go. The sooner this is over, the better.”

The auditorium was dimly lit, with a spotlight on the center of the stage.

Lin Ci stood in front of the microphone, holding his script.

As soon as he appeared, gasps broke out from the audience. Many boys in the back rows stood up.

Lin Ci ignored the stares. His cool, clear voice echoed through the auditorium.

The applause was absurdly enthusiastic. Clearly no one cared what he actually recited.

As soon as the recitation ended, Lin Ci immediately headed backstage, wanting nothing more than to take off the outfit.

Just as he stepped off the stairs, several boys crowded around with phones.

“Senior Lin Ci, let’s take a photo!”

Lin Ci patiently posed for two.

Just as he was about to leave, a boy next to him leaned in.

Pretending to adjust his pose, he moved closer to Lin Ci, his hand sliding toward Lin Ci’s waist.

Before the hand could touch his waist, Lin Ci’s eyes turned cold.

With a man’s intuition, he knew exactly what kind of garbage was in this bastard’s head.

He had just clenched his fist to strike when Gu Mianmian squeezed out from somewhere.

She grabbed the boy’s wrist.

Her fingers dug into his wrist bone.

The boy’s face changed instantly, his features twisting in pain.

“Damn!”

“What are you doing!”

“Let go!”

Gu Mianmian didn’t even glance at him. Her eyes stayed on Lin Ci, her voice flat.

“Don’t touch her.”

“Can’t you understand human speech?”

The people around were startled by the sudden turn. The backstage went quiet.

Lin Ci snapped back to his senses and slapped the boy’s arm away in disgust, his face cold.

“I told you not to touch me, so don’t. If you don’t want that hand, I’ll remove it for you.”

With that, Lin Ci pulled Gu Mianmian behind him and strode out of the backstage. He kept her shielded.

The boy clutched his wrist, gasping in pain. Intimidated by Lin Ci’s presence, he didn’t dare follow.

The party wasn’t even over when photos of the two started blowing up the school forum.

Among the photos was the moment Gu Mianmian protected Lin Ci during the group photo.

“Is that body real? I’m literally on my knees.”

“Who’s that girl next to her?”

“Her eyes are so fierce.”

“Protecting her so closely. I’m genuinely jealous.”

Teaching building study room.

Zhou Yan’an scrolled to the photos.

He stared at Lin Ci’s cheongsam-clad figure for a while, his finger brushing the screen.

Then his gaze moved to Gu Mianmian beside him, a flicker of inquiry in his eyes.

Back at the dorm.

Lin Ci immediately took off the cheongsam and put on his old pajamas.

“Phew, I’m alive again.”

He collapsed onto the bed.

Gu Mianmian sat at the desk, the light from her phone screen illuminating her face.

She scrolled through the forum comments one by one, her eyes gloomy.

When she saw the comment about forming a group to ambush the senior at Building 5, Gu Mianmian turned off the screen.

The dorm was silent.

She turned her head and looked at Lin Ci sleeping in the upper bunk. Her nails dug a red mark into her palm.
