Luo Bingli found herself even more exasperated. Was this dress truly her choice? She was, quite frankly, a victim in this whole bizarre situation!
As for the talk of ‘Three Flowers’ and ‘Five Qi,’ that story began with the dwindling numbers of inner disciples.
Inner disciples were becoming increasingly rare, not only due to the escalating difficulty of cultivation and higher realms but also because entry into the inner sect demanded the innate potential to break through to the Nascent Soul stage.
What precisely constituted the potential for a Nascent Soul breakthrough? At the Golden Core and Nascent Soul stages, these two realms were categorized by quality.
They were divided into twelve grades. Taking the Golden Core stage first, grades one to three were considered ‘Waste Cores.’ The cores condensed were typically black or gray.
What was a Waste Core? It meant that no matter how much one cultivated, their realm would ultimately halt at the Nascent Soul stage, making a breakthrough utterly impossible. Of course, ‘impossible’ wasn’t absolute; one might encounter a heaven-defying spiritual object, but such treasures were beyond the reach of ordinary individuals. Thus, forming a Waste Core generally sealed one’s path to immortality.
Grades four to six produced ‘Rainbow Cores,’ or more accurately, ‘Life Cores.’ These cores varied in color, often reflecting the cultivator’s physique and cultivation method. The higher the grade, the deeper and more profound the color.
Typically, only those who condensed an inner core of grade four or higher could become inner disciples. However, in the cultivation world, over ninety percent of cultivators formed Waste Cores. Even in major sects, the probability of a Waste Core reached sixty or seventy percent, making it a significant achievement to become an inner disciple.
As for those disciples with Waste Cores, while they could no longer be considered core disciples, they could serve as deacons in various departments.
Grades seven to nine produced ‘Purple Cores,’ also known as ‘Dao Cores.’ These cores were typically purple, pregnant with a certain Dao and carrying the cultivator’s own Heavenly Fate Qi Luck, which was often purple. Only true prodigies could condense such cores.
From grade nine to twelve, the condensed cores, known as ‘Golden Cores’ or ‘Immortal Cores,’ contained not just personal Qi Luck, but the very essence of the Great Heavenly Dao itself. The Dao often manifested as a golden hue, embodying the saying, ‘With one Golden Core consumed, my destiny is mine to command, not Heaven’s.’ Such cores signified the potential for true immortality.
Of course, to put it another way, one might understand this as, ‘My son, Wang Teng, possesses the demeanor of a Great Emperor.’ Why the demeanor of a Great Emperor? It’s simply because he condensed a Golden Core—that’s the essence of it.
Upon reaching the Nascent Soul stage, it too was divided into twelve grades, categorized from highest to lowest as Heaven, Earth, Spirit, and Mortal. Beyond even the Heavenly Nascent Soul, a Nascent Soul cultivator, if blessed with a heaven-defying opportunity, could even condense a wisp of immortal energy.
And that wasn’t all. The Nascent Soul realm could accommodate a maximum of three wisps of immortal energy. When all three wisps reached grand completion, it was known as ‘Three Flowers Gathering at the Peak.’
Beyond Qi Refinement, Body Forging also had a pinnacle achievement at a similar Nascent Soul-like realm: ‘Five Qi Converging to the Origin.’ Similarly, soul cultivation at a comparable realm had its ultimate achievement, called ‘Seven Stars Shining Bright.’
What were the effects of these achievements? Simply put, a Golden Core signified the potential for immortality; one wisp of immortal energy represented the foundation for becoming an immortal.
Three wisps of immortal energy, however, indicated the potential of an Immortal King or Immortal Emperor. Even if one cultivated conventionally from then on, without any further opportunities, they were guaranteed to become an immortal, provided they didn’t perish.
The other two achievements yielded equally astonishing results; in short, they were incredibly formidable.
Yet, these immensely formidable achievements, in the eyes of that sycophantic Wang Qiu’er, seemed effortlessly attainable for Luo Bingli. The most crucial detail was that, in the original plot, Luo Bingli actually did achieve them.
Shaking her head, Luo Bingli reminded herself that she had already awakened her past life’s memories. She couldn’t allow this lackey’s flattery to cloud her judgment. Due to the system, she needed to find Ye Xiaozi quickly.
Thus, Luo Bingli cut Wang Qiu’er off, preventing her from speaking further. She looked at Wang Qiu’er with a serious expression and declared, “Forget everything else for now. Your most important task is to help me find a young girl named Ye Xiaozi. She’s a new recruit, hasn’t been here long, and is still a mere menial disciple!”
Wang Qiu’er immediately looked enlightened. “Ah, I see! So, Saintess, you’ve already mastered the art of nurturing! You know to seek out pure and untainted white lotuses among the menial disciples.”
She clearly believed her Saintess was preparing to cultivate a harem, starting from a young age.
‘I…’ Luo Bingli clenched her fists. If Wang Qiu’er hadn’t already begun pondering, Luo Bingli’s punch would likely have already connected with the other woman’s forehead.
“I remember!”
“Remember what?”
“It’s like this, Saintess. The menial disciples of the Hundred Flowers Palace are recruited in batches every three years. Due to their large numbers and insufficient cultivation, the entire Hundred Flowers Palace is divided into four residential areas for menial disciples. Over the years, new menial disciples are now placed in each area only once every twelve years.
“This arrangement is because twelve years serves as a cycle; out of tens of thousands, only about a third remain after twelve years. So, for the four regions, every twelve years is a fresh cycle.
“I just calculated, and this year’s newly recruited disciples should be in Autumn Residence. It’s not far from here, only about sixty li away. Saintess, I’ll go check for you right now.”
“No, I’ll come with you!” Luo Bingli had no time to wait around, so she immediately prepared to head to Autumn Residence.
****
Standing a distance from the Autumn Residence’s menial disciple management office, Luo Bingli couldn’t help but feel a sense of trouble brewing.
The Hundred Flowers Palace had clear regulations: menial disciples within three years of entry were considered under ‘newcomer protection.’ Therefore, information about these new disciples was generally prohibited from being viewed by anyone.
How could she possibly access that information?
“Saintess, it’s just ahead. Why have you stopped?” Wang Qiu’er asked, puzzled, from beside her.
“I’m wondering what method to use to view these classified documents.”
“Oh, that’s nothing! Watch me!” With that, Wang Qiu’er patted her chest, displaying a ‘leave it to me!’ expression, and strode directly towards the management office.
Seeing this, Luo Bingli felt a warmth in her heart. Although this lackey often caused her trouble, sometimes she was…
Just as Luo Bingli was thinking this, a furious roar erupted from within the management office: “I am the Saintess’s number one junior sister! What’s wrong with wanting to look at the disciples’ information? The Saintess is currently preparing to select concubines from these new disciples! What if you delay the Saintess’s plans, causing her future concubine to be defiled by someone else? Can you bear that responsibility?”
