Join the ServerBai Chen rushed to the Flower Festival, but Mo Qiu didn’t reply to his messages, which nearly drove him mad with worry.
He paced back and forth at the entrance, but there was no sign of her. He could only hope she had either gone home safely or was waiting for him inside while admiring the flowers.
If anything happened to her because of him, after saving her, he would have to atone with his own life.
Bursting into the festival grounds, Bai Chen quickly spotted the girl he was looking for.
Mo Qiu had clearly dressed up for today. She wore a pristine white dress.
“Thank goodness. Sorry I’m late.”
Bai Chen started to stand up.
“Come on, let’s go see the flower exhibition together.”
Mo Qiu’s hand grabbed his. Bai Chen froze for a moment before noticing she was pointing at her left foot.
“I can’t walk right now.”
Seeing her swollen ankle, Bai Chen’s heart clenched.
It was because he came late that she got hurt.
If I had been by her side from the start, this wouldn’t have happened.
As he was blaming himself, Mo Qiu narrowed her eyes slightly, as if admiring a masterpiece.
“Bai Chen, can you rub it for me?”
She lifted her injured foot.
“Ah?”
Bai Chen was stunned again.
“Now? Here?”
He looked around. This spot was indeed secluded. As long as he blocked the view, it wouldn’t bother anyone.
But… you want me to rub your foot? Bai Chen felt his breath catch.
As if seeing through his hesitation, Mo Qiu raised her leg higher, her skirt falling back to reveal her shapely thigh.
“Bai Chen, rub my foot.”
“I… I don’t know how… How about I carry you home?”
“Don’t you like my feet?”
Mo Qiu pouted, then placed her hands under her chest and gently lifted.
“Do you like these instead?”
“Stop, stop, stop!”
Bai Chen understood. She was angry because he was so late.
“Fine, I’ll do it, okay?”
It was already down to the big white rabbits; if he refused again, heaven knows what she’d say next.
Bai Chen wasn’t lying. He really had no idea how to massage a sprained ankle, so he quickly looked up a guide on his phone.
After a simple preparation, Bai Chen knelt before Mo Qiu and gently grasped her lower calf.
He clearly felt her tremble. Was Mo Qiu nervous too?
Taking a deep breath, he told himself he couldn’t mess up again. His expression turned serious as he moved to the next step.
Her foot was small and well-proportioned, with a slender ankle and skin as white as jade. The straps of her sandals softly wrapped around her ankle, both revealing the delicate curve of her instep and artfully outlining the elegant arch of her foot.
Bai Chen slowly unbuckled the sandal’s clasp. Her jade-like foot was freed from its confines, revealing an unadorned, pure beauty. The skin on her sole seemed even more translucent in the sunlight, as if he could see the fine veins beneath.
He held her foot, afraid to apply too much pressure, and looked up to find Mo Qiu staring at him with those lifeless eyes.
“I’m… going to start now.”
“Mm.”
Bai Chen took another deep breath and began to massage her foot.
At first, he was overly cautious, his fingers gently circling the injured area while watching her expression.
He thought he was light enough, but Mo Qiu still wore a look of endurance.
After a moment of hesitation, he asked softly:
“I’m going to apply more pressure.”
“Mm.”
Though he said he’d press harder, his fingers applied only a moderate force, each knead accompanied by fine adjustments so as not to hurt her.
But as time passed, Bai Chen’s worries faded, and his focus shifted to the jade-like foot in his hands.
Mo Qiu’s foot looked like jade, and the feel was beyond words. Though not as soft as her chest, the combination of bone and skin offered a completely different sensation.
The thought even crossed his mind of doing this forever.
Yet after finishing all the steps, he wisely let go and helped her put the sandal back on.
Mo Qiu watched his earnest demeanor, her eyes hazy. In her eyes, Bai Chen was like a loyal dog of a knight.
Upon realizing his princess was injured, the knight’s heart filled with remorse and self-reproach, berating himself for failing his duty.
He could be a hero sweeping across the battlefield, but before his princess, he was just a little dog wagging its tail and sticking out its tongue.
That princess was her, and only her.
Passion welled up like a gushing spring, rippling in Mo Qiu’s vacant eyes.
“There, try walking.”
Bai Chen looked up, still meeting her dull gaze.
“Okay.”
Mo Qiu tried to stand and took two steps under his support.
“It still hurts a bit, but it’s not too bad.”
“That’s good.”
Bai Chen sighed in relief. He couldn’t believe a random massage could help. He’d learn the proper technique when he got home; he couldn’t be so careless next time.
“Since you’re okay, do you want to look around? Or go home?”
Bai Chen was eager, but he still asked Mo Qiu.
Half an hour ago, she would have wanted to go home. But now, she chose to stay, to accompany him.
“Alright, let’s go.” Bai Chen smiled gently.
Mo Qiu stood up and walked with him, once again stepping into a world of blooming flowers.
Finally, it’s my turn to shine?
Mo Qiu had been waiting for this moment—to astonish Bai Chen with her vast knowledge of flowers, to leave him at a loss. A savior hero? Before her, he was just a piece in her plan.
“Bai Chen, this flower…”
“Gardenia. Rubiaceae, genus Gardenia, a shrub.”
“…You know it?”
“A little.”
Mo Qiu wasn’t convinced and took him to see other varieties.
“This…”
Iris.
“This…”
Agave.
“This…”
“There’s even a Three-Color Magic Flower.”
How do you know all of this?
Noticing her expression, Bai Chen rubbed his nose and smiled sheepishly.
“My mom loved growing flowers when I was little. I picked up some knowledge from her.”
“…”
Some? He even knew flowers that Mo Qiu didn’t, and explained them with great detail. His eyes sparkled; he seemed to enjoy it.
But Mo Qiu wasn’t listening at all. She just wanted to end this nightmare.
“Mo Qiu, what flower do you like?”
Hearing this question, Mo Qiu thought for a moment and led him to another spot.
“I didn’t have one before, but after meeting Bai Chen, I like this one.”
“Huh?”
What does it have to do with me?
Bai Chen looked at the flower she pointed to and was stunned.
It was a marguerite, also known as Paris daisy or Chrysanthemum frutescens. The flowers were small but beautiful; if they bloomed across the mountains, it would be a spectacular sight.
“Does Bai Chen like marguerites?”
Mo Qiu said she started liking this flower after meeting me…
Bai Chen suddenly understood her meaning.
The language of the marguerite flower is ‘expectation of love.’
Mo Qiu always had many little schemes. If he didn’t pay attention, he’d be caught. Bai Chen fell into a long silence before answering:
“Mm, I guess so.”
“I see.”
Having gotten her answer, Mo Qiu said no more.
It seems I haven’t done enough. He didn’t give a direct affirmation.
“Should we keep walking?”
Let’s walk a little longer.
The girl’s hand slowly intertwined with his fingers.
Bai Chen stopped, his expression hesitant, but in the end, he let her hold his hand.
If he refused, would she run out of the festival on the spot? Mo Qiu was fragile, and Bai Chen couldn’t bear to hurt her.
Yet when her palm fully pressed against his, he felt an unusual flutter in his heart. He couldn’t explain its origin, but it was unforgettable.
Just as they were about to set off again to find the next beautiful flower, a voice suddenly interrupted them.
“Bai Chen, Mo Qiu, why are you here?”
Mo Qiu’s heart skipped a beat.
Damn, I forgot there was another troublemaker around.
