Join the ServerHer erratic movements, combined with the chilling mask, made Crow appear utterly bizarre.
Yalin frowned, a hint of displeasure etched upon his face.
“A god who brings love? Don’t spout such nonsense; I’ve never heard of anything of the sort.”
“It’s perfectly normal that you haven’t heard of it; most people haven’t. For those great, benevolent beings invariably attract the envy of the shameless, a truth that holds for both humans and gods alike.”
Crow’s tone carried a faint note of regret.
“A benevolent god, indeed. Is reducing me to this grotesque state her idea of love? If so, that affection belongs in the refuse bin.”
Yalin mocked her without mercy.
Despite such a blatant insult directed at her revered deity, Crow remained utterly unperturbed.
“It’s quite alright if you don’t understand now. Lady Tiyera is magnanimous; she would never concern herself with such trivialities.”
Crow clapped her hands together, then excitedly circled Yalin, like a girl brimming with gossip.
“But isn’t love truly the most beautiful thing in this world? You must feel a glimmer of it, too, mustn’t you? Not killing that girl is the strongest testament, wouldn’t you agree?”
Yalin merely glanced at her, offering no response. Yet Crow, as if performing a monologue, continued her impassioned speech without pause.
“Oh, but she truly is a good girl! Kind, brave, and possessing the most selfless love. Lady Tiyera must adore her!”
“Hehe, I saw everything, you know? That girl, even trembling with fear, was willing to risk her life to save you!”
Crow’s tone shifted, and she sighed deeply.
“But how does she view you? That girl trusted you so implicitly, yet you showed no appreciation whatsoever. You even used honeyed words, veiled threats, and cunning inducements to manipulate and deceive her! To exploit her! Oh, it truly pains me! Teacher Vilia would surely be disappointed if she knew… But it’s okay, under Lady Tiyera’s teachings, those bad habits will soon be corrected!”
“Your words are truly excessive.” Yalin cut her off coldly.
“Haven’t you already confirmed what you needed to? If there’s nothing else, stop lingering here. While I don’t know what plans Mother has with you, I have no inclination to involve myself.”
“Huh? Don’t you dislike Lady Tiyera residing within your body? Our goal is to liberate Lady Tiyera. From that perspective, our objectives are aligned, aren’t they?”
Crow suddenly thought of something, clapping her hands. “I see, it seems you don’t trust me, do you? Oh, that’s normal. Even though I held you as a babe, though you’d certainly have no recollection. So, this must be our first official meeting.”
She paused, adopting a serious tone, and spoke earnestly. “Then, I swear to Lady Tiyera: I will absolutely not do anything to harm you. How about that? Is that sufficient?”
“Are you jesting? Such a paltry oath holds no sway over me.”
“This is indeed quite troublesome. If you knew, you’d understand the true weight of that statement. Alas, you don’t…”
Crow scratched her head, somewhat troubled.
“Alright, although the complete plan cannot be revealed just yet, to demonstrate my sincerity, allow me to tell you a few things you might find interesting.”
She leisurely approached the desk, perching upon it, legs casually crossed.
“You should know that many gods exist in this world. They reside in higher dimensions, lording over us lowly mortals from their celestial heights.”
“But Lady Tiyera is unlike those false gods out there. She was born from humanity’s most primal emotions; she is our true god, truly! The one we should genuinely worship!”
“However, those false gods grew fearful! Afraid that Lady Tiyera’s existence would threaten them, they resorted to despicable means to influence this world, seeking to utterly erase Lady Tiyera from its very fabric.”
“And to protect Lady Tiyera, a devoted follower sealed her ahead of time, organizing other believers of that era to guard her through countless generations. This, then, is the origin of the Abyssal Church.”
Crow finished speaking in one breath, without the slightest pause, as if she had committed this very speech to memory.
“Lady Tiyera was sealed into two distinct parts—her consciousness and her physical body. I can tell you now that her consciousness resides within you.”
“As for her physical body, it was sealed within many special vessels—the [Eyes of Nothingness], as the Church calls them. After all, those are where Lady Tiyera’s gaze rests; she is watching this world through those very eyes.”
Crow picked up a red crystal from the desk and dangled it tantalizingly before Yalin.
“Although this thing is a failed product of the [Eyes of Nothingness], it can, to a certain extent, borrow Lady Tiyera’s authority. What possessed Will was a partial projection of Lady Tiyera in this world. Of course, for us seasoned believers, we can also utilize some of Lady Tiyera’s authorities.”
Hiss, hiss, hiss—
Several tentacles emerged from Crow’s sleeves, writhing sinuously in the air.
“For example, I can use Lady Tiyera’s power to create my own doppelgangers. How about that? Isn’t it marvelous?”
“Hmm.”
After quietly listening, Yalin nodded.
While he couldn’t be certain that everything she claimed was true, through her account, Yalin had indeed gleaned a considerable amount of useful information.
“You also possess an [Eye of Nothingness], don’t you? As for its usage, it’s all detailed in the scroll, which I presume you’re already well aware of.”
Drip, drip—
Thick, black liquid continuously dripped to the ground, and Crow’s form began to gradually collapse.
“Hmm, is it time? The crystal’s power is depleted, and it cannot be sustained much longer… But never mind, I have, by and large, conveyed all that I wished.”
She chuckled a few times, waving at Yalin. “Well then, I shall take my leave? I trust we shall enjoy a harmonious relationship henceforth.”
With that, she dissolved into a puddle of black mud and vanished from the room.
Ailanmia.
Carol hummed a cheerful tune, her steps light as she made her way home, carrying her vegetable basket.
‘I shopped for too long; I didn’t realize it got so late! If Yalin were home, he’d definitely scold me!’
‘But never mind, I snuck out this once, and he won’t know. Besides, I bought so many good things today! Once Yalin gets back, I can make him lots and lots of delicious food~’
In the deep, deserted alley, Carol’s slender figure was alone, lending her an even more ethereal fragility.
Just then, a towering, obscured figure quietly materialized from the deepening shadows, blocking her path.
“You’re Carol Ravenster, aren’t you?”
