Join the ServerCrimson blood gushed forth, and Nomnom could distinctly feel her life force rapidly ebbing away.
Though she had long anticipated such an outcome, a potent surge of unwillingness still flared within Nomnom’s heart.
Death had arrived far too swiftly.
She hadn’t even had the chance to accomplish anything, yet here she was, simply floating away into death…
How utterly laughable.
Her vision began to blur, and the surrounding darkness surged like a tide, engulfing everything.
In her final moments, Luluti’s face materialized before her eyes.
‘Ah, Young Miss…’
‘What could she be doing right now?’
‘It’s so late; she must be asleep by now, right?’
‘No, after I’m gone, she’ll probably suffer from insomnia for a long time.’
‘I’m sorry, Young Miss… In the end, I’m still just a useless maid, unable to help with anything at all…’
‘Please… you must…’
Nomnom’s eyes dimmed, and her breathing gradually ceased.
“That wretch, she actually committed suicide…”
Veins throbbed on Raymond’s temples as he glared fiercely at Carol.
He rarely felt such fury; this was a distinct exception.
“If you hadn’t stopped me from applying the curse mark, she wouldn’t have been able to do this. You deliberately let her commit suicide.”
Facing his aggressive interrogation, Carol offered no rebuttal.
Instead, she gently closed Nomnom’s eyes, her movements as delicate as if she were handling a fragile piece of art.
She then rose to her feet and offered Raymond a faint smile.
“Don’t be so angry, Mr. Raymond. She’s already beyond doing anything, so why not let her find release?”
“Hmph…”
Though Raymond was consumed by rage, Carol’s words held undeniable truth; Nomnom had indeed lost all value.
A deceased s*ave was not worth provoking a confrontation with the black-robed young woman.
“I hope you don’t forget the agreement between us.”
After coldly uttering these words, Raymond turned and departed.
Krokor was still inside the villa, and remaining outside for too long would only arouse suspicion.
Gurgle… gurgle…
Black liquid continuously seeped from the ground, swiftly engulfing Nomnom’s body.
Once the dark fluid receded, no trace remained on the ground, as if nothing had ever transpired there.
“Ah, what a pity. I had hoped we could become good friends.”
Carol let out a soft sigh, her figure melting into the shadows.
The entire city once again fell into silence.
Only three days remained until the Academy Festival.
The sun rose, casting warm rays through the laboratory window.
At the experimental bench, Yalin held his breath, using tweezers to carefully pick up the last crystal.
He meticulously placed it into a specially made alchemical flask, then firmly sealed it with a cork imprinted with sealing magic.
Only after completing all of this did he let out a relieved yawn.
‘I’m utterly exhausted!’
To produce these high-purity mediums, he had been working relentlessly in the laboratory for several days.
Despite his unique constitution, which meant Yalin didn’t require sleep like ordinary people, prolonged work still took a severe toll on his spirit.
However, the results were remarkably substantial.
Yalin gazed at the neatly arranged reagent bottles on the table, a satisfied smile gracing his lips.
Based on the current conversion rate, his existing supply of mediums was more than sufficient to handle the impending Academy Festival crisis.
Of course, as a consequence, every penny of the fortune he had painstakingly accumulated over the years was now gone.
‘Sigh… I feel like even if I survive this, I’ll still starve to death,’ Yalin grumbled silently to himself.
The laboratory door suddenly swung open.
Professor Wendy Rhine, as usual, was perfectly on time.
She wore her unchanging attire: a loose white coat, black stockings, and long, ocean-blue hair cascading over her shoulders.
Even bathed in the warm morning light, she exuded a cold, metallic aura.
Upon seeing Yalin, a hint of surprise appeared on her face.
“Did you stay in the laboratory again today?”
“Yes, I’ve finally completed the report.”
“I see… but don’t push yourself too hard. Proper rest is essential.”
“Thank you for your concern, Professor. I was just about to go rest for a bit,” Yalin said with a beaming smile.
‘The old lady is naive enough; she’s truly been a great help.’
‘However, for that experiment fanatic to tell me to rest… that’s truly a sign the sun is rising in the west.’
“Oh, right, Yalin, it seems a letter arrived for you.”
Wendy suddenly remembered something and handed him a white envelope.
“A letter for me?”
Yalin blinked. He couldn’t recall anyone he knew who would write him a letter, especially during this peculiar time.
‘Could it be that woman named Crow? Is it about what happened on the day of the Academy Festival?’
“Thank you, I’ll take a look.”
Yalin accepted the envelope.
The envelope was remarkably simple, or rather, it wasn’t an envelope at all, merely white paper wrapped around something.
On it, a few words were scrawled in hasty handwriting: ‘To Yalin.’
There was no sender, no address; it appeared utterly bizarre from every angle.
Upon opening the envelope, Yalin couldn’t help but frown.
“Is something wrong?”
Wendy noticed the change in his expression.
She was curious but felt it improper to peek at the contents of the letter, so she merely asked vaguely.
“It’s nothing.”
Yalin shook his head, tucking the letter into his breast pocket. “Just an acquaintance.”
The letter contained only a few short lines, requesting Yalin to protect Luluti.
Though unsigned, it was unmistakably Nomnom’s handiwork.
‘So, something unexpected did happen at the Astria family after all…’
Yalin sighed. While he was concerned about the Young Miss’s immediate future, he unfortunately had no leisure to worry about her.
After all, he was barely able to protect himself and wasn’t even sure if he would survive the Academy Festival.
On his way out of the laboratory, Yalin encountered Fulin in the corridor.
Due to constantly moving in and out of her office, she wasn’t even wearing her distinctive witch’s hat, allowing her brown hair to fall freely along her ears.
This was Yalin’s first time seeing Professor Fulin without her hat.
Honestly, even without the hat, Yalin couldn’t discern that this young woman was actually an ancient monster nearly two hundred years old.
However, upon closer inspection, one could still spot the faint wrinkles on her forehead, hidden beneath her hair.
“Yalin, it’s been a while. Did you enjoy your time back home?”
“Professor, you jest. I wasn’t home for recreation,” Yalin replied with a wry smile.
“Is that so?”
Fulin’s face held a gentle smile, completely devoid of any vice-dean’s airs. “Speaking of which, Ritz didn’t cause you any trouble, did she?”
“No, no, not at all. It’s just that her sudden appearance there gave me quite a fright.”
‘It gave me quite a fright, so much so that I almost took her out.’
“Hehe, I apologize for that. It was my fault for giving her that idea, wanting her to get out and clear her head… I really should have discussed it with you, but you know, I’ve been so busy preparing for the festival that it slipped my mind.”
“It’s alright, Professor, it’s really no big deal,” Yalin said, waving his hand.
From Professor Fulin’s demeanor, it seemed she was unaware of what had transpired between him and Ritz.
‘I wonder how much of that is true, but it doesn’t matter now…’
“Alright, I appreciate your trouble. Please, continue to look after that child in the future.”
“No problem, please leave it to me.”
Yalin readily agreed, already plotting how he might utilize Ritz on the night of the Academy Festival.
