Join the ServerHer demeanor was utterly nonchalant.
“Oh? It seems the three of you have recovered quite well, still possessing the strength to bark at me.”
She lifted her eyes, her cool gaze sweeping over the three of them, as though she were observing three kittens, freshly puffed up and full of bluster.
“Penglai Immortal Palace and the East Sea Merman race are ancient enemies.”
Yan Wusheng disregarded their simmering anger, directly dropping a bombshell.
“A millennium ago, Penglai, in their pursuit of forging the Longevity Cauldron and deploying the Sea-Locking Grand Array, nearly annihilated the entire Merman race. They extracted their oils and plundered their sands. Lan Xi, the current ruler of the East Sea, is the sole survivor of that massacre.”
She paused, watching the trio’s expressions shift from fury to stark astonishment, a satisfied curve gracing her lips.
“Therefore, she views every land-dwelling creature who sets foot here as an accomplice of Penglai. That Soul-Suppressing Song just now was merely an appetizer. Should her true form descend and make this East Sea her battlefield, the four of us would not stand a chance.”
Upon hearing this, even the most arrogant Ling Shuangjue fell silent.
As Void Return Realm cultivators, they possessed their own discernment and judgment. They understood that Yan Wusheng’s words were not false.
Engaging in a death struggle on another’s home ground, against a peak Soul Transformation Realm sea demon who could command the entire ocean’s power, was not bravery. It was utter foolishness.
Gu Chang’an frowned, a hint of gravity in her cool voice. “Are you suggesting we take a detour?”
“A detour?” Yan Wusheng let out a soft laugh, as if she had heard the greatest joke imaginable. “Fellow Daoist Gu, do you truly believe a sea demon, consumed by hatred for Penglai, would be our enemy?”
‘The enemy of my enemy is my friend.’
“Lan Xi’s appearance, though an unforeseen variable in our plans, can still be exploited.”
Excitement, akin to a chess master discovering a brilliant move, flickered in Yan Wusheng’s eyes.
“She despises Penglai, and we, too, must venture into Penglai. Our objectives are, to a certain extent, aligned.”
“As long as we can make her understand this, not only will we avoid becoming her enemies, but we might even gain an ally powerful enough to shake Penglai’s mountain-protecting grand array.”
“An ally?” Yuange scoffed with disdain. “You just said that woman considers all land-dwelling creatures as enemies. Will she even listen to our explanation?”
“Of course, she won’t listen to us.” Yan Wusheng’s gaze landed precisely on Yuange, her expression deeply meaningful. “But perhaps she will listen to you.”
“Me?” Yuange was taken aback.
“Precisely.” Yan Wusheng nodded, her tone resolute. “Fellow Daoist Gu is an immortal sword cultivator, radiating righteous qi. In Lan Xi’s eyes, she is no different from Penglai’s hypocrites. Demonic Venerable Ling… with your murderous aura, you’d likely be mistaken for someone trying to pollute the waters before you even spoke.”
Ling Shuangjue snorted coldly, offering no rebuttal.
“As for me, my Heavenly Mechanism is in disarray, making me indistinguishable from an inanimate object in her perception. Only you…”
Yan Wusheng approached Yuange, extending a slender finger and lightly tapping her brow.
“As the princess of the Myriad Demon Kingdom, a descendant of the Golden Crow bloodline, you are not a human cultivator. You are an exotic race, just like her. With you stepping forward, we can, at the very least, secure an opportunity for dialogue.”
These words were logical and well-reasoned, leaving no room for refutation.
Gu Chang’an and Ling Shuangjue both looked at Yuange, their gazes complex.
Once, they had harbored reservations about Yuange’s demon identity. They never imagined that in this desperate situation, this very identity would become their only path to breaking the deadlock.
Yuange’s small face flushed, then paled.
Being ‘nominated’ so publicly by Yan Wusheng, and placed in the position of ‘the hope of the entire village,’ made her utterly uncomfortable.
On one hand, she intensely disliked the feeling of being so transparently manipulated by this ‘divine stick’ woman.
Yet, on the other hand…
The thought of surpassing Gu Chang’an and Ling Shuangjue, becoming the key figure in solving the problem, ignited her accursed, competitive spirit as a powerhouse.
‘What kind of situation has this princess not witnessed!’
“Fine!” Yuange dramatically puffed out her chest, her chin held high. “Seeing how useless you two are, this princess will reluctantly make this trip.”
“But it’s agreed!” She held up a single finger, waving it before the other two. “Once Zhaoqing is rescued, you must admit that I hold the greatest merit!”
Gu Chang’an: “…………..”
Ling Shuangjue: “Hmph, childish.”
Though they expressed disdain, neither of them voiced any further objections. This was silent acquiescence.
Having received ‘authorization,’ Yuange immediately sprang into action. She took a deep breath, walking to the bow of the ship and facing the eerily still ocean surface.
Golden light swirled within her amber demon eyes.
The demonic energy within her body no longer manifested as an overwhelmingly aggressive force. Instead, it transformed into the purest vocal resonance, imbued with the majestic authority of the Golden Crow imperial lineage.
Yuange’s voice did not spread through the air. Instead, it was like a stone cast into water, transforming into ripples of golden energy that silently permeated the inky blackness beneath the sea.
“Ruler of the Deep Sea, Empress of the East Sea.” Yuange’s voice, carrying the pride and etiquette of the demonic imperial line, echoed through the depths.
“I am Yuange, Princess of the Myriad Demon Kingdom. We are not your enemies, nor do we share any allegiance with the vile and shameless Penglai Immortal Palace.”
“Our intention is singular: to level Penglai and reclaim the blood debt!”
“We can be allies!”
Her voice clearly reached the abyssal depths thousands of feet below.
Upon the throne constructed of frost and dragon bones, Lan Xi’s pair of dark blue vertical pupils narrowed slightly.
‘Princess of the Myriad Demon Kingdom? Golden Crow bloodline? Interesting.’
Normally, she might indeed consider this proposal. After all, having more cannon fodder to assault Penglai’s grand array would always be beneficial.
However… not now.
For she had already sensed it.
On that ship, besides those three powerful auras, there lingered another pure Dao Source, one that haunted her dreams and was enough to quell the wrath of the Great Abyss.
This was a treasure infinitely more precious than the combined worth of the entire Penglai Immortal Palace, the sole hope that could completely free her Merman race from their curse and grant them a new life.
How could she possibly share such a ‘divine object’ with others?
‘Allies? Hmph. You foolish land-dwellers are merely cannon fodder, escorting treasure right to my doorstep.’
“Allies…” An ethereal, icy voice emanated from the deep sea, reverberating above the Wave-Breaking Skiff. “You filthy land races, be you human, demon, or devil…
…are only fit to become nourishment beneath my kin’s gravestones!”
Before her words even finished echoing.
Boom—Rumble—Rumble—!
The entire ocean seemed to be lifted from below by an invisible colossal hand.
The previously mirror-still sea surface shattered instantly.
A single—no, that could no longer be called a wave.
It was a deep blue precipice, connecting heaven and earth, constructed from billions of tons of seawater, obscuring all light.
It surged down towards the tiny Wave-Breaking Skiff with an unstoppable, crushing force.
Before that ‘water wall,’ the Wave-Breaking Skiff was as minuscule as a grain of sand, ready to be crushed at any moment.
The starry dome, meticulously arranged by Manwu, groaned under the overwhelming pressure of this world-destroying power, countless cracks instantly spreading across its surface.
“Damn it!” Yuange’s face contorted. “That crazy old hag, she fights without honor!”
