Chapter 142: The Name That Shook the Hall

[ays_poll id="2"]

The current chairman of the International Hunter Association.
And a hunter even more famous than Yoo Hee-ro—perhaps the most famous hunter in the entire world.

The man who appeared was Ronald Morgan.

At the mention of such an unexpected figure, the hall erupted not in cheers but in stunned gasps.

“Huh—!”

So many people inhaled sharply at once that it was impossible to tell who had done it.

“Is he seriously here…?”

Lee Won-jae and Chae Min-jeong were no different. Seong Ji-woo’s mouth fell open. Son Ji-hwan didn’t look quite as shocked, but his eyes held clear curiosity.

The only exception was Yoo Hee-ro, who calmly swept his gaze over the stage as if it were nothing worth remarking on.

Cutting through the murmurs, the massive central screen split open to either side, and Morgan appeared with a relaxed smile.

Step by step—neither hurried nor slow—he walked forward and stopped in front of the microphone.

“Hunters of the Republic of Korea, it’s a pleasure to meet you.”

Fluent Korean flowed effortlessly from his lips.

It was his ability.

Born with a rare psychic-type power, Morgan could ensure that everyone understood his words perfectly, regardless of language.

It was also one of the major reasons he had become chairman of the International Hunter Association.

“Whoa… I just got literal goosebumps. I never thought I’d see that in person. It’s not like hearing a voice—it’s like the words are being planted straight into your head. Seriously, chills.”

Chae Min-jeong rubbed her ear for no reason and shuddered. Seong Ji-woo nodded slightly in agreement.

“You’ve all worked incredibly hard this year. Thanks to you, countless people have been able to live their everyday lives in safety. On behalf of the International Hunter Association, I extend my deepest gratitude to the hunters of Korea. I’ve been watching your achievements with great admiration from afar, and it’s an honor to greet you in person like this.”

There wasn’t a single hunter in the world who disliked the International Hunter Association.

While national hunter associations were often plagued with controversy and internal strife, the International Hunter Association was different.

If anything, it was known for stepping in to protect hunters who had been mistreated by their own countries’ associations, even going so far as to provide personal protection. Because of that, many hunters referred to it as their spiritual homeland.

Perhaps because he was the one standing firm at the center of that organization, Morgan radiated an indescribable aura. An unyielding conviction gleamed in his eyes.

Seong Ji-woo felt a chill run down his spine.

He didn’t know exactly what it was—but there was no denying that Morgan was an extraordinary person.

“Though there have been several unfortunate incidents, the International Hunter Association will always stand on the side of hunters. Thank you.”

With that clean closing remark, Morgan stepped down from the stage. The host let out an awed sigh and launched into a rapid-fire stream of praise in his trademark style.

Morgan, unfazed and unembarrassed, smiled easily and waved at the cameras.

“He was just… born that way.”

Chae Min-jeong muttered, half-dazed. Beside her, Lee Won-jae nodded vigorously, eyes sparkling.

“Come to think of it, didn’t you say he was your role model before?”

“…Yeah.”

Lee Won-jae answered dreamily, like someone still stuck in a dream. Chae Min-jeong waved her hand in front of his face.

“You look like your soul left your body.”

“Ji-hwan, you don’t seem that surprised.”

“Oh, I’ve met him a few times.”

At that, Lee Won-jae’s eyes widened to the size of saucers. He grabbed Son Ji-hwan’s sleeve and shook it back and forth.

“When? How? Where?”

“Uh… just briefly, at international hunter events and stuff…”

Startled by the sudden intensity, Son Ji-hwan took a step back.

“Wow, this is the first time I’ve ever heard Lee Won-jae talk like this.”

“Same. I thought he was a completely different person.”

Seong Ji-woo and Chae Min-jeong both marveled at this new side of him. Realizing himself belatedly, Lee Won-jae flushed bright red.

“Ah… I—I mean…”

Flustered, he brushed at the sleeve he’d been clutching, but the wrinkles weren’t going anywhere.

“S-sorry…!”

“It’s fine.”

Thankfully, Son Ji-hwan didn’t seem to mind.

“Still… because of me…”

“How about this, then?”

Lee Won-jae remained restless, so in the end, Son Ji-hwan put on the jacket he’d taken off earlier, neatly hiding the creases.

“At this rate, our guild will probably get invited to international events too.”

“…What?”

So shocked was Lee Won-jae that his voice cracked completely—more of a squeak than a question.

“Well, we do have our guild master.”

“…Wow. You’re right.”

Only then did Lee Won-jae seem to realize just how incredible the guild he belonged to was, placing a hand over his chest. Seong Ji-woo couldn’t help but laugh.

“Thank you… I’ll really do my best.”

Eyes shining, Lee Won-jae respectfully voiced his resolve to Yoo Hee-ro. Yoo Hee-ro nodded, looking mildly awkward.

〈Hunter Board〉 Live Reactions — Merit Awards Ceremony

Selene Guildmaster Chae Jeong-won is insanely pretty;
Yoo Hee-ro is stupidly handsome;
but the guy next to Yoo Hee-ro is a different kind of hot (honestly more my type).

Man… reality check hits hard.
Why do hunters have everything?
Life is unfair as hell.

Lots of guilds here, but Gwangmyeong just stands out.
Probably because of Yoo Hee-ro.

Feels like the entire hall is watching Yoo Hee-ro lol
No one even cares who’s winning what.

  • What the hell, MORGAN???
    I won the lottery today
People who missed this ceremony are gonna cry lol
    I tried rubbing my face into selfie mode just to get a pic with him;
    absolute family heirloom material.

++ Gwangmyeong Guild seriously looks close as hell lol
Top “good vibes” guilds:

Selene
Helios (basically famous for being a ^fa^mi^ly^)
Knocker (guild master looks like a full-on gym monster—human?? I thought a bear walked in.
There’s also a tiny male guild member stuck next to him, looked like a cicada clinging to an old tree)

And Gwangmyeong
(they were weird even during recruitment; now it’s just their own world.
They keep talking and laughing among themselves.
Hey, let me in too, damn it. I feel left out.)

And during break time, all the guilds mentioned above were hanging out together lol
Guild friendship arc is back.

Selene + Helios makes sense since they’re basically sibling guilds, but
what’s the connection between Knocker and Gwangmyeong?

+++ Rookie Hunter Awards (3 winners):

Helios — Lee Hye-rin (wanted to see her, but she couldn’t come)
Gwangmyeong — Chae Min-jeong (seen her everywhere lately; must’ve stacked points)
Guerrilla — Won Seop-hyeon (been on fire recently)

Chae Min-jeong bounced around after coming down from the stage, rookie award in hand.

“This was so worth it! All that suffering finally paid off!”

Her smile was radiant and carefree. Her arms were full of bouquets—ones given by the Selene and Helios guild masters.

“…This is my first awards ceremony, so I didn’t know I was supposed to prepare flowers. I’ll pick something really nice next time.”

“Oh come on, what flowers between us! It’s fine!”

At that, Lee Won-jae, who’d been about to hand her a small bouquet, froze completely. Chae Min-jeong noticed him belatedly and quickly snatched it.

“Still! It’s better to get one than not. I’ll take it gratefully—thank you!”

She hugged Lee Won-jae briefly, then hugged the other guild members one by one. Yoo Hee-ro made his reluctance painfully obvious, but in the end, he caved under Seong Ji-woo’s pressure and returned the hug.

“Man, getting a hug from you is hard.”

Chae Min-jeong clicked her tongue.

“Hye-rin unnie would’ve loved this if she were here…”

Lee Hye-rin’s award had been accepted by the Helios guild master in her stead. He delivered a calm message of congratulations and encouragement, promising to pass it along—saying she’d be truly happy to hear the news.

Seong Ji-woo sent Lee Hye-rin a text congratulating her and thanking her for her hard work.

A reply came shortly after.

[Min-ah already told me. Thanks for the congrats. Is the ceremony fun?]

Seong Ji-woo replied immediately.

[No. I want to go home.]

Glancing sideways at the screen, Yoo Hee-ro whispered,

“You want to go home? Wanna go?”

“Go where? And why are you reading my messages?”

“If you cheat, I need to catch you in the act.”

“I said I’m not cheating.”

Despite Seong Ji-woo’s disbelief, Yoo Hee-ro stubbornly turned off his phone screen.

“Don’t text other people when I’m right next to you. I get jealous.”

“You really put effort into saying complete nonsense.”

Shaking his head, Seong Ji-woo grabbed Yoo Hee-ro’s face and turned it forward.

“I won’t text anyone, so stop staring at me. It’s making me uncomfortable.”

Even so, Yoo Hee-ro kept his head fixed and rolled only his eyes to look at him.

“Hey. Why are you glaring at me?”

“Do you know how bad I want to look at you?”

“I don’t. Now turn your eyes back.”

“…Tch.”

Seriously unbelievable.

Seong Ji-woo muttered under his breath—
but at some point, the corners of his mouth had already curled upward.
