Join the ServerYan Li returned to the bed and sat cross-legged, closing his eyes to regulate his breathing.
The rich spiritual energy of heaven and earth around him was immediately drawn in.
Compared to a small city like Luoyan City, where spiritual energy was thin, Tianque City was clearly on another level.
As soon as he began circulating his technique, a warm, abundant current flowed into his meridians. It brought comfort wherever it passed.
His dantian, which had been mostly empty for half a day, gradually regained vitality as spiritual energy poured in.
Today’s consumption had been considerable. From Luoyan City to Tianque City, he had flown on his sword for a full day, and then fought the Zhou family group at the city gate.
His mind had been tense earlier. There had been no time to think. Now that his spiritual power was slowly replenishing, he began to review the day’s events.
That finger strike at the city gate had been meant only to knock the man back. Instead, the fellow had flown backward three zhang.
Honestly, he had been startled too. He just could not show it.
Because that strike had set the tone, he had felt much more confident when he later lashed out with the spiritual whip. The results had proven it effective.
With a thought, he condensed a long whip of spiritual energy at his fingertip again. Before he could swing it, it shattered into points of light from exhaustion.
No matter. He withdrew his hand. He could try again once his spiritual power recovered.
What truly puzzled him was this: when had he become so strong?
Was it because for the past three months, he had daily helped Yan Shu clear her meridians, repeatedly endured the backlash of cold energy, refined it over and over, and accumulated bit by bit until quantity finally produced a qualitative change?
Or was it because of that moon-white ruqun?
Maybe both.
Back in Luoyan City, if not for the unknown power hidden in that dress helping him through a crisis, he might not have been able to protect Yan Shu today. He might not have even protected himself.
He sank his mind into his dantian.
The small vortex had grown a bit more solid than last night. A silver-white radiance settled quietly at its edge. It turned slowly, giving off a faint cool aura.
Rather than radiance, it seemed more like a higher form of power. After some thought, Yan Li decided to call it Taiyin Radiance.
The name was simple, but fitting.
He tried to guide that thread of Taiyin Radiance, but there was still no response. Yet as his spiritual power circulated, a very faint trace of the radiance would quietly merge into it.
After one minor cycle, his fatigue had eased somewhat, and the spiritual power in his dantian had grown more solid.
He was still far from full recovery, but it was far better than the emptiness he had felt when he first entered the city.
Yan Li opened his eyes and turned to look at Yan Shu in the crib.
The little one was sleeping deeply, her small fists clutching the corner of the blanket. Her lashes cast a small fan-shaped shadow beneath her eyes.
Yan Li leaned over and wiped a glistening drop of drool from the corner of her mouth. She wrinkled her nose, mumbled, and fell back asleep.
He had not yet cleared her meridians today. Tomorrow he was going to Yulu Pavilion. Though the trip was only to buy pills, Tianque City was unfamiliar. Who knew if they would run into trouble like at the city gate?
With Yan Shu with him now, every bit of strength he recovered was extra protection.
With that thought, Yan Li stopped hesitating and took out the moon-white ruqun from his storage ring.
The moon-white skirt hung down from the couch. The moment the dress clung to his body, the hidden array patterns lit up silently, and a faint radiance flowed.
A warm, gentle power slowly surged from deep within the dress. It resonated with the Taiyin Radiance at the edge of his dantian.
Yan Li bent down and picked up Yan Shu. His fingertip spiritual power entered her body and moved slowly along her fragile meridians, clearing the blockages one by one.
As the spiritual power circulated, Yan Shu’s slightly furrowed brows gradually relaxed. Her little face was pink, and her breathing grew steadier.
Only when the last thread of spiritual power withdrew did Yan Li put her back in the crib and tuck the blanket around her.
He sat cross-legged on the couch again and closed his eyes to circulate his technique.
The vortex in his dantian slowly accelerated. Taiyin Radiance and the spiritual energy of heaven and earth gathered together and flowed endlessly through his meridians.
Time slipped by. The noise outside the window faded. Soon only steady, long breathing remained in the room.
When the forty-ninth cycle ended, the spiritual power around Yan Li was so dense it was almost tangible.
A faint radiance wrapped around his body and shrouded him in a cool halo.
His face held a warm luster that made his already fair skin look nearly transparent. Even the usual coldness between his brows had softened.
The next morning.
Yan Li slowly opened his eyes. After a night of cultivation, his dantian was full and his meridians were clear. He had recovered all the spiritual power he had spent yesterday, and had even improved slightly.
He stretched his arms and let out a mouthful of turbid breath. When he withdrew his hands, he noticed his collar had come open at some point, revealing a pale collarbone.
The moon-white skirt spread in layers on the couch like a blooming white flower.
He silently fixed his collar and gathered the spread skirt back into order, then got up to wash.
In the crib beside him, Yan Shu chose that moment to open her eyes. Her little head turned blankly. She did not see a familiar figure right away.
“Waaah!” The cry burst out instantly.
Yan Li’s temple twitched. He turned and walked back at once, then pulled out spiritual milk from his storage ring and held it to her mouth.
Yan Shu smelled it and stopped crying immediately. Her little mouth took the jade bottle and she sucked noisily.
Yan Li: “…”
This little thing was getting smarter. She knew crying worked.
He simply took out a cloth, fixed the jade bottle in place, and put it into Yan Shu’s small hands. Once he saw both her hands holding the bottle, he freed his own hands to deal with his own matters.
He untied the sash at his waist. The moon-white ruqun slid down and pooled at his feet.
He packed it away into his storage ring, then took out a plain white Daoist robe and put it on.
After he was dressed, he examined himself in the mirror. The face reflected there was paler than yesterday.
He frowned and touched his cheek.
The texture was smooth and fine, better than he remembered by more than a grade.
He studied himself in the mirror for a while but could not figure out what had changed.
It was probably because his recent cultivation had progressed, and the Taiyin Radiance kept nourishing his body, so his complexion had improved.
With that thought, he stopped worrying. Cultivators went through body purification anyway. Better skin was not strange.
He quickly tied his hair, inserted a simple bamboo hairpin, then turned, picked up Yan Shu, and pushed open the door.
Xuan Shiyan was already waiting in the corridor.
Hearing the door, he looked up. Then he froze.
