Chapter 21: Second Phase Growth

Hearing about the “private porter” proposal, Park Sang-soo asked cautiously, “Does… does that include me as well?”

Technically, Park was a full-time employee of the corporation, not a day-laborer porter, so he had to be sure.

“Haha, of course,” Se-hyeon replied. “But if you leave the company, how will we handle the monster corpses? Don’t we need the company to settle the accounts?”

Park Sang-soo waved it off as if it were a minor detail. “I can just tell the company I’m going freelance. As long as the supply of monster corpses remains steady, they won’t care if I’m staff or an independent agent. Especially for a late-comer like Taekwang; they’re desperate for inventory.”

For companies like Taekwang, securing a supply of monster parts was the biggest hurdle. If Park could guarantee high-quality remains, they would welcome him with open arms regardless of his title.

“Freelance, huh? That sounds good. Maybe you can even start your own firm once you’ve saved up enough,” Se-hyeon added.

Park Sang-soo’s eyes sparkled. “Oh! My own firm? That’s not a bad idea at all. I know my limits as a hunter—I’ll never be a superstar—but starting a supply or processing company… haha! I’m starting to see a real future for myself.”

Meeting Se-hyeon had transformed Park from a man scraping by on small change to someone drawing blueprints for a corporate empire.

“Well, we can discuss the specifics once everyone reaches Phase 2. For now, let’s wrap it up. I’ll contact you if a good dungeon opens up tomorrow.”

Park Sang-soo replied quickly, “Understood. I’ll keep an eye out for any openings overnight. Oh! We’re sticking to D-rank tomorrow, right?”

Seeing how Se-hyeon handled the Giant Ants, Park was confident they could manage Orcs or other D-rank threats. Moreover, D-rank monsters provided significantly more EXP, and the group was hungry for that Phase 2 evolution. Se-hyeon felt the same.

“Of course. With such a massive difference in payout, there’s no reason to go back to E-rank.”

Beyond the money, the “Life Force Absorption” from higher-tier monsters provided far more growth for his ring. If the hunting speed was comparable, staying at a lower tier was a waste of time.

The next day.

A D-rank dungeon opened in the early hours of the morning. Despite the lack of sleep, the group gathered with high energy. The hope of reaching Phase 2 acted as a better stimulant than caffeine. The dungeon was an Orc Outpost.

Se-hyeon’s party entered faster than any C-rank team and began a relentless slaughter.

Boom! Crash!

Orcs had higher attack power than Giant Ants, but they were slower. For Se-hyeon, this actually made them easier targets.

“Kueeeek!” “Gwaek!”

They had taken down about 60 Orcs when the long-awaited notification finally rang in Se-hyeon’s ears.

[The growth of the Magic Ring ‘Zellostan’ has reached 10%.] [The ‘Mage of Chaos’ class has grown to Phase 2.]

Finally, he had reached the second stage of growth.

[All stats have increased by +100.] [New skills have been unlocked. Check the status window.] [The options for the title ‘Master of Zellostan’ have been updated.] [Phase 2 memory transfer of ‘Magic Combat Arts’ is now available.]

“Let’s take a short break,” Se-hyeon said to the group. He needed time to process the new skills and the massive stat jump.

“Haha, sure thing!” Park agreed. They had already bagged 60 Orcs, and other parties were still struggling near the entrance. There was no rush.

Se-hyeon sat down and checked his updated title first.

[Title: Master of Zellostan (EX)] The owner of the magic ring Zellostan, which contains everything of Zephyrus Kravan.

  • Growing Zellostan increases the owner’s growth stage and grants additional abilities.
  • Additional Mana: +6,000 (Increases with stage)
  • All Basic Stats: +100
  • Base Mana: +300
  • Grants additional options upon stage increase.
  • Provides rewards for each stage of ‘Magic Combat Arts’ memory transfer. Stage 1: [Base Mana +100] Stage 2: [Unlocked upon memory transfer]

His additional mana had jumped from 1,000 to 6,000, and his basic stats surged by 100 across the board. His total mana pool was now effectively over 60,000. He hadn’t worried about mana before, but now the concept of “running out” felt impossible.

‘My stats have effectively tenfold increased, and my base mana tripled. I wonder how much more I’ll get after the memory transfer?’

The new skills were Sanctuary Declaration and Dark Chains. One was Light-aligned, the other Dark-aligned.

‘I’ll perform the memory transfer now to imprint the combat arts associated with these skills and test them immediately.’

“I’m going to step away for a moment to take care of some business,” Se-hyeon announced.

Park Sang-soo smiled knowingly. “Haha, go ahead. There’s a quiet spot back there. We’ll be right here.”

Se-hyeon found a secluded area and initiated the process. ‘Memory Transfer!’ The familiar pattern glowed on his forehead. This time, because his foundation was already established from Phase 1, the headache was mild—just a slight throbbing. After five minutes, the transfer was complete.

“I see… so that’s how I use them. With these, a C-rank dungeon might actually be doable.”

[Active: Sanctuary Declaration (Max)] Declares a specific area as a Holy Sanctuary.

  • Allies: Attack/Defense +55%, Attack/Move Speed +33%, HP/MP Regen x2.2.
  • Enemies: Attack/Defense -33%, Attack/Move Speed -22%.
  • Duration: 2 hours. Cooldown: 1 hour 12 min.

[Active: Dark Chains (Max)] Summons dark chains to bind up to 30 targets.

  • Absorbs 11 HP per second from bound targets.
  • 50% of the total absorbed HP is transferred to the caster when the spell ends.
  • Duration: 5 min. Cooldown: 24 min.

Between the massive buffs of Sanctuary and the life-drain of Dark Chains, Se-hyeon’s combat efficiency had reached a terrifying level. Furthermore, his equipment set bonus and title further reduced mana costs and cooldowns.

[Memory transfer complete. Phase 2 reward: Base Mana +500.]

“Hah! Another 500 base mana? My base mana is over 1,000 now.”

[Status Window] Name: Jang Se-hyeon Class: Mage of Chaos [2/10] Title: [Master of Zellostan] [Fragment of Kartemian] Strength: 110 | Agility: 113 | Stamina: 112 | Mana: 1080 + [6000] HP: 11,200 | MP: 10,800 + [60,000]

Skills:

  • Passive: Magic Combat Arts [Max], Multi-Casting [Max]
  • Active (Light): Wind Boots, Sanctuary Declaration
  • Active (Dark): Shadow Orb, Dark Chains
  • Common: Life Force Absorption, Subspace [Lv. 1]

The jump was astronomical. He felt a surge of power coursing through his body that he had never felt before.

He returned to the rest area, where the group greeted him warmly.

“Ah, you’re back! Feel better?” Park Sang-soo asked with a laugh.

“Much better,” Se-hyeon replied with a sheepish grin. “Didn’t have time to use the restroom before leaving this morning, and it hit me suddenly.”

“Haha, it happens to the best of us. Ready to head back out?”

“I’ve had enough of a break. Let’s start the hunt.”

The party stood up and headed deeper into the Orc Outpost, unaware that they were now following a monster far more dangerous than any Orc.
