Join the ServerThe off-road vehicle finally came to a stop in front of a lonely military outpost.
Several squat concrete buildings stood enclosed behind tall barbed-wire fences.
Searchlights swept across the increasingly dark sky and swirling snow, casting the entire compound in a stern, unforgiving glow.
This was Lin Yan’s territory.
The Third Northern Frontier Outpost.
The engine shut off.
The thunderous roar vanished.
In an instant, the world was filled only with the howling wind…
And an even more suffocating silence.
Lin Yan hopped out of the vehicle with practiced ease.
Walking to the rear, he flung open the trunk with a loud bang.
With one hand, he lifted Shen Qingxian’s three heavy suitcases out one after another before setting them down heavily on the snow.
The weight left noticeable depressions in the frozen ground.
He looked toward Shen Qingxian, who was still sitting stiffly in the passenger seat.
His brows knitted together.
“What?”
“You waiting for me to carry you down too?”
Shen Qingxian snapped out of his daze.
His slightly trembling fingers hurriedly unfastened the seatbelt before he pushed open the door.
An icy gust immediately swept in.
Pulling his coat tightly around himself, he took a deep breath of the frigid air, trying to suppress the unfamiliar nervousness stirring inside him.
Lin Yan had already picked up the two largest suitcases and was striding toward what appeared to be the barracks.
Shen Qingxian quickly grabbed the remaining, slightly smaller suitcase and hurried after him, stumbling over the uneven snow.
Its wheels rolled laboriously across the uncleared ground with dull, dragging sounds.
The outpost was quiet.
Every so often, soldiers in matching uniforms hurried past.
Whenever they saw Lin Yan, they immediately stopped to salute.
Yet despite themselves, their curious eyes drifted toward the Omega following behind him.
Someone so breathtakingly beautiful looked utterly out of place amid the rough military surroundings.
Their gazes were filled with surprise and curiosity.
Lin Yan made no effort to introduce him.
He simply walked straight down the corridor until they reached the last room.
Unlocking the door with both his fingerprint and a key, he stepped aside to let Shen Qingxian—and his cumbersome suitcase—enter first.
“You’ll be living here from now on.”
The room was larger than Shen Qingxian had expected.
But it was astonishingly bare.
A hard single bed.
An old desk.
One chair.
A wardrobe.
Beyond that, there was almost no furniture at all.
The walls were a cold grayish white without a single decoration.
The room carried the same scent as Lin Yan himself.
Gunpowder.
Strong liquor.
A faint trace of tobacco.
And the clean smell of soap.
Together, they created an unmistakable atmosphere of an Alpha’s absolute territory.
Lin Yan casually tossed his military overcoat over the back of a chair, revealing the fitted black tank beneath that outlined his broad chest and powerful arms.
He walked over to the small stove in the corner of the room and began lighting a fire with practiced ease.
“It gets cold at night here.”
Without turning around, he added, “Learn to feed the fire yourself.”
The flames quickly sprang to life.
Warm orange light flickered through the room, bringing a trace of warmth while casting his rugged silhouette against the wall, making him seem even taller and more imposing.
Standing in the middle of the room, Shen Qingxian looked somewhat at a loss.
His three suitcases sat neatly side by side on the floor, like three luxurious intruders that had wandered into this primitive territory.
“What are you standing there for?”
Lin Yan’s tone carried the weight of an order.
“Unpack your things.”
Walking to the desk, he picked up a cup and took a long drink of water.
His Adam’s apple rolled noticeably as he swallowed.
As though startled awake, Shen Qingxian slowly crouched down and opened the first suitcase.
Inside were neatly folded clothes.
Every piece was soft, expensive, and faintly carried the cool, sweet plum blossom scent of his pheromones.
He unpacked at an unhurried pace.
Every movement was careful.
Deliberate.
Quietly stubborn.
One by one, he hung soft sweaters, cashmere pullovers, and silk pajamas inside the wardrobe that had previously belonged to Lin Yan alone.
Lin Yan’s few plain military uniforms and training clothes were gradually pushed to one side.
Before long, they were half-buried beneath Shen Qingxian’s richer colors and finer fabrics.
He opened the second suitcase.
It contained books, several precision instrument components whose purpose wasn’t immediately obvious, a photo frame carefully wrapped in soft cloth, and various personal care products.
He neatly stacked the books in an empty corner of the desk.
The bottles and jars of skincare products claimed the opposite side, standing in stark contrast to Lin Yan’s simple razor and toothbrush cup.
Leaning against the desk, Lin Yan idly twirled a military knife in one hand.
His dark gaze followed Shen Qingxian as though watching a small bird slowly build its nest, little by little filling a space that had once held only Lin Yan’s presence with traces of himself.
He didn’t stop him.
Nor did he say a word.
His gaze merely grew deeper.
As though observing.
Or silently permitting the occupation.
Before finishing everything in the second suitcase, Shen Qingxian stopped.
There were simply too many small items inside.
Cleaning them all up would take too long.
He pushed the suitcase aside, intending to sort through the rest another day.
When he opened the third suitcase, he carefully removed a soft ivory cashmere blanket.
He spread it over the hard wooden bed, smoothing every corner with meticulous care.
Only then did Lin Yan finally move.
He strode over to the bedside.
His tall figure completely enveloped Shen Qingxian in its shadow.
Shen Qingxian paused in the middle of making the bed and looked up nervously.
Lin Yan’s eyes swept over the expensive-looking blanket, completely out of place atop the rough cot.
Then they returned to Shen Qingxian’s face.
Suddenly, he reached out.
Not toward Shen Qingxian…
But toward the blanket.
His fingers lightly rubbed the edge of the fabric.
“High-maintenance.”
His voice was low and husky.
It was impossible to tell whether he was criticizing him…
Or something else.
Lowering his eyes, Shen Qingxian murmured softly,
“…It’ll be cold.”
Lin Yan said nothing further.
He looked around.
The wardrobe that had once belonged solely to him.
The desk.
Even the bed.
All of them had quickly been marked by another person’s belongings.
The feeling was strangely unfamiliar.
He didn’t dislike it.
If anything…
There was a subtle sense of satisfaction.
As though this cold room, which had existed for nothing but survival, had finally gained another kind of atmosphere.
One that belonged to…
His Omega.
Oh.
He was a married man now.
This Omega might look fragile.
And troublesome.
Yet the way he quietly but stubbornly arranged his belongings carried an unexpected persistence.
Finally, Shen Qingxian took out a small aroma diffuser and an elegant glass bottle filled with a clear liquid.
After hesitating for a moment, he looked toward Lin Yan.
“…May I use this?”
“It helps stabilize pheromones…”
Lin Yan glanced at it before giving a brief nod.
Only then did Shen Qingxian place the diffuser on the bedside table and add a few drops of the liquid.
Soon, a faint, icy plum blossom fragrance slowly spread through the room.
It wasn’t overpowering.
Yet it was remarkably persistent.
Little by little, it began softening the domineering scent of gunpowder and liquor in the air, attempting to blend with it instead of driving it away.
Lin Yan drew a slow breath.
The cool sweetness slipped into his lungs.
Strangely…
Rather than provoking rejection, it felt like a clear spring flowing through nerves that had remained taut and overheated for years.
He watched Shen Qingxian finish unpacking.
The Omega stood quietly beside the bed with his head slightly lowered.
A stretch of fair, fragile neck was exposed.
The edges of the inhibitor patch were plainly visible.
The room no longer resembled the cold, monotonous barracks it had been before.
It had become crowded with another person’s presence.
Different.
“Finished?”
Lin Yan asked.
His voice seemed slightly rougher than before.
Shen Qingxian nodded gently.
“Then get used to it.”
Turning toward the door, Lin Yan said,
“I’m heading to the mess hall to get dinner.”
“Stay here.”
The door closed behind him.
Only Shen Qingxian remained in the room.
And in the air, the completely different pheromones of an Alpha and an Omega slowly intertwined.
Shen Qingxian slowly sat down on the edge of the bed covered by the soft blanket.
His fingers lightly brushed over the fine cashmere.
Looking around the room—still saturated with Lin Yan’s scent, yet now forcibly filled with traces of his own—he quietly wrapped his arms around his trembling knees.
This…
Would be where his new life began.
With an Alpha who was powerful…
Rugged…
Yet, somehow, made him feel as though he was finally allowed to exist.
He had a husband now.
A real Alpha…
Who belonged only to him.
