Chapter 37: Jung Saebin

Jung Saebin.

One of the five men entangled with Chae Yeryeong, alongside Choi Taehyuk, Min Seonwoo, and the Namgung brothers—and among them, the most famous yet most mysterious figure.

To put it simply: he’s handsome, rich, and a genius. Or so I’ve heard.

According to Chae Yeryeong, he majored in music—he could play instruments and seemed to have considerable skill in composition. He’d even won awards at some major competitions.

I don’t know much about that world, so it didn’t seem that impressive to me—but he must have been genuinely remarkable, because Yeryeong rarely got so excited, shouting that “that senior is a genius! A real genius!” But from the few times I’d seen him in college, the impression I got was: a somewhat handsome lunatic. Nothing more, nothing less.

To explain Jung Saebin’s family background: he comes from a chaebol family that runs the world’s second-largest electronics company. Rumor has it that the chairman is quite strict, and all his children went into engineering or business according to his orders—except for Jung Saebin.

Jung Saebin was the eldest son. The reason his strict father made an exception for him, allowing him to major in music, was precisely because of his lunatic tendencies.

Glossy dark brown hair, jet-black eyes, a straight nose, tightly closed red lips, fair skin, and a slender jawline—Jung Saebin was the very image of a classic East Asian pretty boy.

Though his body wasn’t particularly frail, and at 180 cm he wasn’t short, something about his face and aura evoked the image of a sickly pretty boy.

Given that he’d once asked a sick Chae Yeryeong “how does it feel to have a cold?” he seemed completely unrelated to frailty—but he had that peculiar appearance nonetheless.

But the bastard only did extraordinary things. I didn’t see him much, but every time I did, he was blankly staring into space, silent, and when he seemed quiet, he’d suddenly be doing something bizarre.

Even though I’m usually slow with rumors, I’d heard over ten stories about him shortly after learning of his existence—and every single one was shocking.

There were witnesses who saw Jung Saebin grab a passerby and randomly say “Let’s have s*x.” Others saw him ask the person next to him in class, “Want to suck me off?” Since it seemed so absurd, some thought it was fabricated gossip—but anyone who’d taken a class with Jung Saebin or spent even an hour in the same space believed without a doubt that all those rumors were true.

Even hearing this much, he sounds crazy enough—but the worst part hasn’t come yet. That bastard didn’t just talk—he actually did it. If the other person said okay, he went through with it.

The second time I saw Jung Saebin was in the bathroom of the building where the club room was. He was staring blankly at the sky through the window, then suddenly turned around and asked a random question to someone using the urinal.

‘Are you good at masturbating?’

The flustered guy said “Huh?”—but he must have taken that as “yes,” because he waited until he was done, then dragged him into a stall. I was already washing my hands, having finished my business, and I stood there with my jaw dropped—but neither of them paid me any mind as they started making “ah-heung” sounds.

What was terrifying was that the one making those sounds wasn’t Jung Saebin with his sickly image—it was the guy who’d been dragged in. I couldn’t even think of drying my hands and ran out.

What I witnessed was in a bathroom with only three people including myself—but rumors spread from various locations: lecture halls, school nap rooms, café bathrooms on weekend afternoons, early evening bar bathrooms, gay bars, and the most shocking to me—late-night buses. I couldn’t imagine such things being possible, short of being a porn actor.

I even heard a joke that when a bus driver, shocked by what he saw, stopped the bus and yelled at them, Jung Saebin pulled out his phone camera and said they were filming a porno.

He didn’t care about gender, status, or age. The bastard was abnormally reckless about things he was interested in, and seemed completely indifferent to everything else.

I stopped reminiscing and returned to reality. I wanted to keep escaping into memories, but my phone was vibrating like crazy—I had no choice.

It felt like I’d been thinking for quite a while, but only 10 minutes had passed—depressing. Given Jung Saebin’s personality, I’d expected him to just leave if I stalled—but that prediction was wrong.

Feeling my guilt fading, I unlocked my phone. After I’d recovered from being sick, the message bombardment had restarted—so now, triple-digit messages didn’t even surprise me.

I skimmed through the meaningless messages and replied. The content was simple—each of the four wanted one thing.

Choi Taehyuk asked where I was. Min Seonwoo asked what I was doing. Hu invited me out because he was bored. Ho asked if he could come over since he had nothing to do.

In order:

[Outside.]

[Tell me.]

[No.]

[No.]

I replied. Lately, the atmosphere suggested I didn’t need to be overly nice, so I mustered some courage. Then I looked up and faced the fifth person—Jung Saebin. I decided to resolve this quickly.

“Look, I’m really sorry.”

Honestly, until I left the concert hall, I’d hoped he’d just say bye and go—since he was that Jung Saebin. But no. He’d been walking ahead, then sidestepped to look at me and tilted his head toward him.

It was incredibly unlucky, but I was the one at fault, so I followed. The café we arrived at didn’t even have prices on the menu. Damn bastard. Honestly, my guilt had almost completely vanished by then.

“You…”

Jung Saebin, who’d been blankly sipping coffee, finally opened his mouth. His gaze was still fixed on the table, but I didn’t care. My mind was filled only with the laundry bill. How much? How much is it? How much will it be?

“Do you know me?”

“…Huh?”

My heart dropped in shock.

“No… I guess not…”

Fortunately, instead of pressing further, he muttered to himself. I didn’t want to get entangled with him. He wouldn’t recognize me anyway—I’d just pay the laundry bill and part ways as strangers. But suddenly he throws that out?

Had I acted like I knew him? I carefully replayed the situation and the few words we’d exchanged—but there was nothing.

Did crazy people have some kind of intuition? Recalling the clear eyes I’d met briefly, I stared intently at his now-vacant gaze. It looked like he was thinking about something, but also like he was thinking about nothing at all.

His hair was a striking blue—probably someone’s prank. And the couple ring that always stayed on the same finger was gone. Jung Saebin had a strange personality, but he was handsome, so many people chased after him—he’d date and break up frequently. Whatever was on his hand, as long as it wasn’t uncomfortable, he didn’t care—so every time I saw him, he was wearing a different ring.

Rumor had it they changed as often as several times a day, or at most once a week.

“Ah.”

Startled! Jung Saebin suddenly lifted his head as if he’d remembered something.

Today’s full of surprises. This is why you shouldn’t do things you don’t normally do. See? A 300,000 won concert wasn’t for me. I should’ve stayed home watching music shows—why did I come here and suffer…

“I know you.”

“…?!”

“Hmm… Yeah. I know you.”

“You know me?”

“Yeah. You—”

Buzz—.

I quickly grabbed my ringing phone. It was Min Seonwoo. Even if Jung Saebin remembered me, it didn’t guarantee entanglement—but I wanted to avoid any connection with a stranger. Honestly, I’d hoped someone might remember me—but having someone like him remember me wasn’t exactly pleasant, and I didn’t want to hear the rest.

With an apologetic look, I excused myself and put the phone to my ear.

“Hello—?”

—Where are you?

Min Seonwoo asked in a gentle voice.

“Ah, I’m at a café right now.”

—Which café? I’m in front of the concert hall.

“Excuse me?!”

—I said I’d pick you up, didn’t I? Earlier.

When did you?! I’m not a child—I can get home by myself!

As Min Seonwoo kept pressing for my location, I seriously considered whether I should tell him.

Min Seonwoo and Jung Saebin would clearly recognize each other, and Jung Saebin would ask why Min Seonwoo was showing up. Or maybe, given his attitude of indifference, he might not ask—but then Min Seonwoo would probably say something to him first.

If that conversation started, it would naturally lead to talk about who I am—and that I’m his university junior. And then he might remember who I am. Wait.

I realized I was drinking a big bowl of kimchi soup—jumping to conclusions.

So what if it’s revealed I’m his junior? The possibility of getting entangled with Jung Saebin because of that was, objectively, close to zero. Hah, I was really overthinking. I’d unconsciously worried that the moment Jung Saebin knew who I was, I’d get entangled.

I recalled my efforts to get close to the four of them. I’d experienced firsthand how much struggle it took just to barely become friends—so what was I worrying about? Embarrassed, I sighed and told Min Seonwoo, who was quietly waiting for my answer.

“I’m at the café in the basement of the concert hall. Yes. Yes. Ah, I’m with someone right now, but it’s fine. Yes. Yes—.”

I told Min Seonwoo the café’s location. It was a bit awkward that he insisted on picking me up—but also made my heart tingle. So this is the pleasure of having hyungs. Is this how it feels to have older brothers?

Feeling better, a smile crept out. Hehe, hyung. I think I finally understand Chae Yeryeong a little. So this is why he was always singing about his hyungs.

I turned off the phone screen and looked up with a smile. Now I needed to settle the laundry bill before Min Seonwoo arrived. First, I had to hear the rest of what he was saying. I opened my mouth toward Jung Saebin, who’d been watching me the whole time.

“Sorry about that. A hyung of mine said he’d come pick me up—I’d forgotten…”

“Yeah.”

Jung Saebin answered before I’d even finished. He definitely hadn’t heard what I just said. I shook my head slightly and continued.

“Um… earlier, you said you knew me…”

“Ah. Right. So, you—”
