Chapter 65: Darkest Desire

The moment Xie Wuyu appeared, he attacked his past self without hesitation.

The black mist was like a sharp blade, like an ice pick.

All of them precisely pierced the past Xie Wuyu, who was in a state of fury.

Naturally, his beastly past self wouldn’t give up easily. With his eyes bloodshot, he stared fixedly at Pei Liu, wanting to reclaim his possession.

One was a semi-god in a state of fury, with explosive power.

The other was the true evil god who had experienced a thousand years of time.

Ultimately, the evil god Xie Wuyu won, suppressing his semi-god self. Reaching into his chest, he extracted a black shadow, causing the red in his eyes to fade and his sanity to return.

The semi-god Xie Wuyu finally regained his senses. Realizing what he had done, his body went stiff, his face pale, with lingering fear in his heart. If he hadn’t been stopped, he would have done something he would regret deeply, and Pei Liu would have hated him…

He wasn’t a complete god; his power was limited. His constant consumption of negative emotions from the clan’s greedy wishes had split off another dark side.

The black shadow extracted by the evil god was this dark side, temporarily suppressed so it couldn’t attack freely. It struggled and roared, highly displeased with Xie Wuyu holding Pei Liu.

At this moment, Pei Liu was pale, his body shivering. If Xie Wuyu hadn’t been holding him, he would have collapsed onto the floor.

“What’s wrong with him?” the semi-god asked, worry in his expression.

Xie Wuyu lifted Pei Liu, and the black mist formed a soft bed, upon which he placed Pei Liu gently.

His movements were as gentle as treating fragile glass, but his tone to his past self was cold and unceremonious.

“Don’t you know? Because you lost control just now, letting a massive amount of yin energy invade his body.”

The semi-god’s face changed instantly.

Ordinary mortals couldn’t bear yin energy, their souls and bodies devoured until they became weak, or even… died.

He said: “I’ll absorb the yin energy out.”

It wasn’t easy; once yin energy entered the body, it quickly burrowed deep into the flesh. For such a large amount of yin energy, trying to extract it would cause some backlash even for a semi-god. But he couldn’t care about that.

Xie Wuyu sneered: “Absorb? How do you plan to do that?”

To absorb it, there had to be a vessel, like a mouth, or…

Silence fell over the room.

“It is my fault, so it is only right that I take responsibility,” the semi-god said calmly.

“No need,” Xie Wuyu said, placing his hand on Pei Liu’s stomach and pressing gently. “He can absorb yin energy; it’s just that this time exceeded what he could bear. Helping him slowly accept, adapt, and digest it will be fine.”

The semi-god sighed in relief, taking a step forward, wanting to take over.

Xie Wuyu refused without a word: “I don’t need you.”

But his past self was persistent, standing firmly by the bedside.

Xie Wuyu wanted to drive him away, but the moment his hand left Pei Liu, Pei Liu groaned in pain, his body trembling, and cold sweat seeping from his forehead.

Ultimately, they had to compromise, taking turns to care for him.

An hour each.

But the black shadow roared in dissatisfaction, wanting to join too.

The two Xie Wuyus ignored him, and he went wild, reaching his hand to Pei Liu’s mouth, wanting Pei Liu to eat him and merge with him.

The shadow was the semi-god’s suppressed other side, and its power was not weak. The future Xie Wuyu could deal with him, but it would take some effort. To keep him from acting up, he reluctantly let him have some of the time.

“Who is first?”

Xie Wuyu smiled confidently: “Naturally, me.”

His waist-length hair began to change, dyeing into a beautiful silver-white with a faint, lustrous sheen. He leaned down, his silver hair cascading. Pei Liu, half-asleep, saw the stunning color and couldn’t resist gently stroking a strand, showing his clear fondness.

The semi-god pressed his lips together, expressionless. The shadow was restless, wishing to kick Xie Wuyu away and take his place.

“Are you sure you want to stay here?” future Xie Wuyu cast a cool glance at him, his silver hair making him look exceptionally cold.

The semi-god silenced himself, saying calmly: “When the time is up, I will come.”

Then he turned and walked out.

Not long after, Pei Liu felt much better, though his body was still weak.

He saw Xie Wuyu, and his lips curved into a smile, lightly pulling at his hair.

“You’re here.”

Xie Wuyu’s gaze softened, but his words carried a trace of sourness: “You seem to like this place quite a bit, don’t you?”

Pei Liu felt a sense of familiarity, remembering the texts, and found it funny. He nodded on purpose: “Yeah, I actually like it here; it’s quite happy.”

Xie Wuyu’s eyes narrowed slightly, his expression dangerous.

“Reluctant to leave? Don’t want to go back?”

Pei Liu held back his laughter, feigning hesitation: “Well…”

Xie Wuyu leaned down, pinning his wrists to the pillow, his other hand pressing on his stomach to help him digest the yin energy.

Pei Liu felt a sharp sting on his lips, groaning as he was bitten.

Xie Wuyu was clearly displeased.

Pei Liu laughed, saying indistinctly: “I was just kidding. Besides, aren’t they all you? You even get jealous of yourself…”

His lips parted, giving Xie Wuyu an opening. Their lips and tongues intertwined, making Pei Liu’s subsequent words muffled and broken, like a ripe fruit being bitten open, releasing sweet juices.

Xie Wuyu kissed him for a long time, forcing Pei Liu to accept it. His breath was warm, making Pei Liu’s body hot, and the chill dissipated completely.

Xie Wuyu gently rubbed the skin on Pei Liu’s neck, wiping away his past self’s bite marks until it was pristine white, and only then did a trace of satisfaction appear on his face.

He suddenly asked: “Want to do it?”

Pei Liu was startled: “…Now?”

“Although time is short, it’s barely enough for once,” Xie Wuyu said.

Time is short?

Pei Liu’s mind recalled the conversation about dividing time, realizing it was real.

It was a bit ridiculous.

If he really agreed now, and the past Xie Wuyu walked in at the critical moment, the scene would be… indescribably awkward.

Pei Liu decisively refused.

Xie Wuyu looked disappointed, and Pei Liu grabbed his blanket warily.

Xie Wuyu smiled gently. But Pei Liu felt like he was looking at a refined beast.

Pei Liu wanted to change the subject: “Let’s chat. By the way, what do you like to eat?”

Xie Wuyu answered without hesitation: “My favorite is willow tip.”

Pei Liu was slightly startled: “…Huh?”

Xie Wuyu continued: “The simplest way is cold toss. Put the prepped willow tip on a plate, add salt, vinegar, garlic, and sesame oil, and mix. It’s green, fresh, and juicy.”

“But of course, my favorite is stir-fry, which brings out all the sweet juices.”

Pei Liu’s mouth watered; he had never eaten willow tip before. Is it really that delicious? It made him want to try it.

Xie Wuyu smiled, and Pei Liu felt his scalp tingle under his gaze. Slowly, he reacted, realizing there was another meaning to those words.

“You…”

Xie Wuyu smiled: “What’s wrong?”

Pei Liu wanted to kick him, but his body was weak. The moment he moved his leg, Xie Wuyu caught his ankle, saying seriously: “You haven’t recovered yet, don’t move.”

Yet he wanted to “do it” just now.

Pei Liu glared at him, then closed his eyes, acting as if he didn’t want to look at him.

Then, he heard a low laugh.

Pei Liu pretended not to hear, but his trembling eyelashes betrayed him.

***

When his turn was up, the semi-god and the shadow walked in.

The silver-haired Xie Wuyu ignored them, only turning to look when the time was up: “Who?”

The shadow stepped forward eagerly.

Xie Wuyu waited for him to take over, but had no intention of leaving, remaining seated by the bed. He said: “I’ll watch him in case of emergency; you can come back later.”

The semi-god fell silent, turned, and walked out. But he didn’t go far, standing under the corridor eaves outside.

Pei Liu felt the situation was very bizarre, wanting to say there was no need and that one Xie Wuyu was enough, but he kept the words to himself, fearing it would make the atmosphere worse.

The shadow helped him process the yin energy. He was actually quite nervous, as the shadow resembled a beast driven by instinct. Earlier, the shadow had even bitten his neck, though Xie Wuyu had healed it.

Perhaps sensing his unease, the shadow’s movements were very gentle, like a tiger sniffing a rose.

He wanted to hold him tightly, his destructive desire clashing with some impulse, but ultimately his fear of making Pei Liu dislike him won out. So, he obediently helped Pei Liu, trying hard to make him comfortable.

He looked like a big dog with its ears drooping, terrified his master would be angry and discard him, rubbing against him to curry favor.

Pei Liu’s worry slowly faded, and thinking he was a part of Xie Wuyu, he reached out to pat his head.

Instantly, the shadow grew excited. If he had a tail, he would have wagged it furiously.

The silver-haired Xie Wuyu sneered coldly.

The shadow cast a glare at him, ignored him, and eagerly approached Pei Liu again, wanting another head pat.

Pei Liu had no choice but to keep petting him.

The shadow was extremely obedient to Pei Liu, but when facing Xie Wuyu, he glared at him provocatively.

Xie Wuyu’s face was rigid, unwilling to admit this foolish shadow was part of him.

When the shadow’s turn was up, the semi-god walked in. Xie Wuyu stood up, dragging the annoying shadow out to teach him a lesson. As for his semi-god self, Xie Wuyu knew his past self’s personality well; he was too repressed to do anything. What’s more, he had left a trick. So, he walked out confidently.

The semi-god sat by the bed, his expression calm, devoid of emotion, just as Pei Liu had seen him before.

“I’m sorry.”

He stared at Pei Liu, expressing his apology sincerely. Although it was just two words, his tone held a heavy weight, as if he had committed some irreversible crime.

Pei Liu smiled, quickly accepting his apology: “I’m fine. You didn’t do it on purpose. I know it’s because the Xie clan made too many wishes, causing a backlash. You’re a victim too.”

Xie Wuyu didn’t nod, saying deeply: “I’m also at fault.”

Pei Liu’s comfort was useless; Xie Wuyu had a sense of original sin. He had to chat about other topics, telling him not to indulge the Xie family like this, hoping he would consider himself and live for himself.

Toward the end, Pei Liu’s voice lowered, feeling tired, and he closed his eyes to fall asleep.

Xie Wuyu said no more, quietly watching Pei Liu’s sleeping face, completely oblivious to the passage of time.

He was the semi-god, and when the future Xie Wuyu appeared to save Pei Liu and force him to wake up, he had recognized him—his future self. More powerful, more mature, and… more liked by Pei Liu.

Their intimacy, natural chemistry, Xie Wuyu holding Pei Liu’s waist, and Pei Liu pulling the silver hair… every scene was exceptionally piercing.

That was Xie Wuyu, himself at a different period, yet he felt so unfamiliar, like another person. He felt no joy, only an inexplicable aversion.

He disliked his own weakness, unable to control his dark side, while his future self could do so easily. He had almost hurt Pei Liu because of it.

Xie Wuyu pressed his lips together, his face cold.

His gaze fell on Pei Liu, and he inadvertently noticed a dark pattern on his collar skin.

He frowned in concern, gently pulling back the collar, only to find the pattern didn’t stop there, spreading all the way down. He could imagine how vast it was, likely covering his entire upper body.

And he could guess who had left this intricate pattern.

Like a mark of ownership, telling everyone that he belonged to him.

Xie Wuyu’s mood turned extremely terrible.

It was like seeing a beautiful fruit, wanting to pluck it but feeling he shouldn’t, only able to watch, when suddenly someone reached out, plucked it, and ate it.

Even so, he didn’t want to let go.

Xie Wuyu hesitated for a moment, pulled a red string bracelet from his sleeve, took Pei Liu’s hand, wrapped it around his wrist slowly, and tied a firm knot. The vibrant red contrasted with Pei Liu’s wrist, making it look even fairer.

An identical red string bracelet was worn on Xie Wuyu’s wrist.

There was a legend in the mortal world about the Matchmaker using a red thread to bind the marriage of two people.

Xie Wuyu said nothing, but wanted to leave something behind.

He tied the red string quietly, lowering his head to kiss Pei Liu’s fingertip, reluctant to let go.

But just then, Pei Liu moved, startling Xie Wuyu into letting go in a panic. But looking closely, Pei Liu was still asleep, merely making an unconscious movement.

Xie Wuyu breathed a sigh of relief.

Through the three taking turns to care for him, the yin energy in Pei Liu’s body was completely absorbed, his complexion restored, looking healthy.

But it also meant he had to leave.

Xie Wuyu had come here to take Pei Liu back.

The semi-god heard this news without any ripples, nodding calmly as he watched Pei Liu’s retreating back.

The dark side in the shadow had been retracted, but his emotions surged, his eyes bloodshot, violent and unwilling, wanting to lock him up and possess him forever.

But the calm semi-god suppressed it, remaining motionless.

He told himself: Pei Liu doesn’t belong here.

He watched Pei Liu’s figure vanish behind the door and stood in place for a long time before returning to the room. He picked up the scroll, sitting alone to read. Just as he had for the past years, the surroundings were terribly empty and silent.

He read the scroll for a long time, but couldn’t get a single word into his brain.

But just then, a figure ran back against the light, his hair tied up and wearing the hair crown he had personally placed.

Pei Liu ran toward him with open arms, giving him a tight hug.

Then, he looked up with a bright, soft smile.

“I’ll wait for you in the future.”

“We’ll meet again soon.”

Xie Wuyu was stunned, his expression groggy.

They were extremely close, an unprecedented distance. Xie Wuyu only had to lower his head slightly to kiss him.

It was inappropriate, but a fire raged in his heart. Unable to control himself, he indulged for a moment.

He lowered his head and kissed the corner of Pei Liu’s eye.

Those bright eyes that focused only on him at this moment.

Pei Liu was completely off guard, his eyelashes trembling.

But immediately after.

Another tall figure embraced him from behind, silver hair cascading to entangle with his black hair, and bit his neck in jealousy, his cool lips rubbing against him.

Pei Liu stood in the middle, his body stiff, his head exploding with embarrassment.

A subtle current of electricity shot down his spine, leaving him completely limp.
