Chapter 67: The Red Thread of Fate

Returning to his original world, Pei Liu felt as if a lifetime had passed.

Although the societal background was similar, there were still many differences, the biggest being the people he knew.

Pei Liu had originally wanted to take Xie Wuyu home directly, but he remembered there was another “him” in this world.

He had gone to the other’s world, and the other had come here.

If that Pei Liu happened to be at home, and he returned as well, it would likely scare his parents half to death.

Therefore, he planned to find “himself” first.

This way of putting it was somewhat strange.

However, it was indeed the case.

Pei Liu tried to use his divine power.

As a new god, he was still very green, unable to control his power with practiced ease, but with a little practice, he would quickly master it and turn it into instinct.

Xie Wuyu wasn’t in a hurry, waiting for Pei Liu to try while scanning his surroundings, feeling somewhat curious about the place where Pei Liu used to live.

The scenery was ordinary, nothing special. But because of his filter for Pei Liu, Xie Wuyu looked at all of this with an extra trace of patience.

Following his instincts, Pei Liu walked to the vicinity of a residential complex.

The other him should be right here.

Just as Pei Liu was about to enter, he happened to run into a passing Norwegian Forest Cat. Its fur was thick, fluffy, and soft, running very fast with the majestic air of a small beast.

The moment Pei Liu made eye contact with the cat, it suddenly ran toward him, being incredibly affectionate and clingy.

Although surprised, Pei Liu was happy to accept the cat’s closeness, pulling it into his arms and stroking its fur.

Within two minutes, a figure ran over, calling “Daemon” repeatedly.

The ears of the cat in Pei Liu’s arms twitched, looking in the direction of the voice. The other person slowed down as he approached, freezing when he saw Pei Liu, his expression filled with shock and doubt.

Because they looked exactly the same, as if looking into a mirror.

The Norwegian Forest Cat looked at Pei Liu, then at its true master, completely dazed on the spot. After a long while, it finally recognized the difference, jumped from Pei Liu’s arms onto the ground, and lunged toward the other.

The two made eye contact.

The other Pei Liu holding the cat spoke hesitantly, inviting him into his home to sit and chat.

Originally, each world existed independently, but because they had accidentally swapped places, many things in their lives had changed.

They both liked their current lives, but at the same time, they couldn’t let go of their own family and friends.

Therefore, they reached an agreement after their discussion: they would travel back and forth periodically, like space-time vacations.

Finally, emerging from the complex, Pei Liu still felt a dream-like grogginess, sighing to Xie Wuyu: “Seeing myself from another person’s perspective is truly magical.”

Xie Wuyu hummed noncommittally.

Pei Liu blinked, suddenly tilting his body, sidling up to Xie Wuyu, and asked: “How did it feel to see two of me?”

Xie Wuyu grasped his hand, his expression unchanged, saying flatly: “I didn’t feel anything.”

Pei Liu: “Really? After all, he was originally a person of this world. If I hadn’t traveled, the person who went to that villa and met you would have been him, not me. Then perhaps, you’d be with him.”

Xie Wuyu denied it without a shred of hesitation: “Impossible.”

Pei Liu: “Why?”

Xie Wuyu said with certainty: “You are you. You’re completely different people. If it were him, we wouldn’t even have had our first meeting.”

“Are you that sure?” Pei Liu raised his eyebrows with a smile. It must be said, his mood was very good.

Since they were going to meet his parents, gifts for the visit were naturally indispensable.

Pei Liu and Xie Wuyu went to pick out gifts together.

While browsing the mall, Pei Liu talked about his parents’ preferences, reminding Xie Wuyu what not to do, and discussing what gifts were appropriate…

At the very beginning, he never expected he would fall in love with an evil god, and even do such domestic things with him; the feeling was very wonderful.

Originally, Pei Liu had been quite worried that Xie Wuyu wouldn’t know how to handle his elders, and had even thought of how to bail him out, but the result completely surpassed his expectations.

Xie Wuyu was very charming, coaxing his mother into broad smiles within just a few sentences. Even his somewhat quiet father approved of him after seeing his vigorous calligraphy and playing a game of chess with him.

Pei Liu’s father cooked a table of his best dishes, drinking and chatting with Xie Wuyu, finding out a lot about his basic situation, like his work, where he lived, his usual hobbies, and whether he could cook.

As they chatted, Pei Liu began to suspect his parents had gained another son, already calling him “Xiao Xie” affectionately.

While eating fruit after the meal, Pei Liu’s mother enthusiastically retrieved two protective amulets from her room, handing one to Pei Liu and stuffing the other into Xie Wuyu’s hand.

Mother Pei said: “These have been blessed; they are highly effective. Wear them to ward off evil and protect yourselves. Both of you must stay safe and healthy.”

Xie Wuyu smiled: “Thank you, Auntie.”

“Why call me Auntie? Call me Mom,” Mother Pei corrected.

Xie Wuyu paused slightly, looked at Pei Liu, and called out smoothly: “Mom.”

Mother Pei responded very happily.

Pei Liu, watching this scene, felt it was very surreal.

Mother Pei had no idea that the person in front of her was the most terrifying evil god, an existence all ghosts feared, while her son was a ghost-eating deity who could absorb yin energy.

However, they accepted the amulets, keeping them safe.

At night, Xie Wuyu took the initiative to cook, and Pei Liu assisted him, chatting by his side, talking about the wedding.

Pei Liu’s parents were very open-minded, letting their child make his own choices without interfering too much, merely observing from the side to see if this person was truly good. The reason they showed so much fondness for Xie Wuyu wasn’t because of how outstanding he was, but most importantly because Pei Liu liked him and he was good to Pei Liu. Therefore, they also liked Xie Wuyu.

Upon learning that Pei Liu and Xie Wuyu were preparing to hold a wedding, they also joined the discussion, mentioning a good wedding planning company a friend’s child had used.

Pei Liu rested his hands on the counter, staring in awe at Xie Wuyu’s beautiful knife skills, praising him bluntly.

Xie Wuyu glanced at him, then calmly continued, making a plate of cold cucumber salad for him to eat first.

This was a very simple cold dish, but Xie Wuyu made a rare mistake.

Accustomed to Xie Wuyu’s excellent culinary skills, Pei Liu picked up two pieces of cucumber and popped them into his mouth without thinking, only for them to taste so salty they were bitter, and he couldn’t help but stick out his tongue.

Xie Wuyu paused, hurriedly poured a glass of water, and handed it to his lips. Pei Liu drank deeply from his hand, finished the large glass, and only then felt better.

Pei Liu didn’t care much, saying: “It’s normal to make a mistake occasionally.”

But Xie Wuyu felt it was highly abnormal, since he had never been like this before. It was just because Pei Liu was staring at him, praising him, and talking about the wedding, that he had accidentally added too much salt while distracted.

He found it unbelievable himself.

Fortunately, the only dish he messed up was the cold dish. In the end, the table of food he prepared received unanimous high praise from Pei Liu’s parents. They had originally thought Xie Wuyu’s cooking was just of average home-style level, but ended up tasting the work of a top chef, unable to resist eating until they were stuffed, completely exceeding their usual appetite.

Mother Pei also teased with a smile: “My son is going to grow as fat as a ball in the future.”

Pei Liu: “…”

Honestly, he had indeed worried about this.

Pei Liu whispered to Xie Wuyu: “Can you not make it so delicious? Or try to keep it low-calorie?”

Xie Wuyu also lowered his voice cooperatively, saying: “You are a god, you won’t grow fat.”

Pei Liu’s eyes widened. Being a god came with this kind of benefit?

He secretly made a peace sign in his heart.

Xie Wuyu couldn’t help but smile.

That night, Xie Wuyu naturally stayed at the Pei residence, sharing a room with Pei Liu.

Mother Pei also brought over the photo albums.

Xie Wuyu flipped through them, seeing what Pei Liu looked like as a child—his eyes big and round, his cheeks carrying baby fat, chubby and soft, his limbs short, looking so cute one would want to put a sack over him and kidnap him home.

Flipping further back, he saw Pei Liu change and grow bit by bit, from a child to a teenager, and then to a young man.

It was as if Xie Wuyu had witnessed this process with his own eyes.

Pei Liu also sat on the bed, looking at them with him, to prevent Xie Wuyu from seeing his dark history.

His method of stopping Xie Wuyu was simple and crude—pressing his hand over the photo album to block it, and reaching up to kiss Xie Wuyu’s lips so he wouldn’t have the mind to look.

They played around on the bed for a while, their sheets and breathing growing messy, which was a bit dangerous.

But Pei Liu remembered his parents were in a room not far away, and the soundproofing wasn’t exceptionally good, so he hurriedly stopped.

Xie Wuyu pressed against him, his voice hoarse and low: “They can’t hear.”

The black mist condensed into a massive cocoon, wrapping them up securely, completely isolating them from the outside world.

But Pei Liu felt embarrassed, pinning Xie Wuyu down and bluntly changing the subject.

“Speaking of which, don’t you think that Norwegian Forest Cat we saw today was exceptionally beautiful? How about we raise one too?”

Xie Wuyu narrowed his eyes dangerously, making Pei Liu’s scalp tingle.

“Are you sure you want to raise one?”

Pei Liu nodded like a chick pecking at rice: “Mhm, mhm.”

Xie Wuyu let out an unreadable hum. Then, his form transformed into a mass of pitch-black mist, slowly shifting and changing shape, and finally condensed into a long-haired cat with pitch-black, sharp eyes and soft fur—even more beautiful than the Norwegian Forest Cat they had seen during the day.

Pei Liu was stunned.

The cat transformed from the black mist leaped agilely, landing in front of him, and stuck out its tongue to lick his chin. The cat’s tongue was covered in tiny barbs, and when it brushed against his skin, it brought a slight sting and tickle.

Pei Liu finally couldn’t resist, pulling the cat into his arms, squeezing and ruffling it, pinching its soft paw pads, feeling extremely satisfied.

He fell asleep holding the cat. But in the middle of the night, the cat turned back into a man, pulling him into his arms and kissing him gently.

Their wedding was prepared for several months.

It wasn’t overly grand, only inviting close relatives and friends, but it was still exquisite and magnificent.

Under everyone’s witness, Pei Liu and Xie Wuyu walked onto the red carpet, made their vows, and exchanged rings.

The ritual was tedious, but they completed every step earnestly.

Until night fell.

Pei Liu was physically exhausted, but his mood was excited, and he didn’t want to sleep. And Xie Wuyu had no intention of letting him sleep.

He sat in Xie Wuyu’s lap, his eyes moist, his fair skin flushed with a beautiful pink hue, his lips like petals, exhaling warm breaths. The black hair on his forehead had long been dampened by sweat, clinging to his skin and leaving damp water tracks.

The air was very hot, like a scorching summer day that made one’s bones soft.

Teased to the point where he couldn’t help but curse, Pei Liu’s voice carried a distinct sob. Xie Wuyu offered gentle comfort, but his eyes held an aggressive invasion. He coaxed him gently, whispering in his ear.

With his eye corners red, Pei Liu ultimately couldn’t resist, replying hoarsely as if begging for mercy.

“…Husband.”

He thought this would make Xie Wuyu let him go, but clearly, he was deceived.

Angry, he bit Xie Wuyu hard.

Xie Wuyu seemed unable to feel the pain, laughing joyfully.

The ghost patterns that had been painted on him previously were now fully revealed—his neck, collarbone, chest, and back… looking like gorgeous flowers blooming, shockingly beautiful.

Xie Wuyu held him, lowering his head to gently kiss his face, sucking away the tears rolling down from his eye corners, taking them into his mouth.

Devout and careful.

Like holding a fragile glass treasure.

His low, hoarse voice was lingering and tender, flowing in the air and refusing to dissipate.

“I love you, forever.”

Pei Liu’s consciousness was already somewhat blurry, on the verge of falling asleep. Vaguely hearing something, he instinctively moved his lips, mumbling sluggishly: “Me… too.”

Xie Wuyu was taken aback, and then smiled in satisfaction.
